Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 53: Teach me
"I can’t believe I am doing this again," Kyle muttered under his breath as he stood in the middle of the blank space, with Aleda nowhere to be seen.
Why was he doing this? Well, she had another test to run, and for that, she said she would be back in a moment.
Using the time he had, he asked the system, "Is there a way for me to connect with my viewers through you? I mean, when I would be away on the college trip, I couldn’t bring my PC with me."
[There is indeed a way, host. However, to unlock that feature, the system would need to take permission from all your viewers. And before the host questions why they wouldn’t do so, apart from personal choice, they must also consider the risk involved in such an action.]
Kyle hummed, "Consequences of what? Watching me through you, or me reading their comments?"
[Host, the more changes they make, the more interaction they have with you. The greater the interaction, the more attention you will gather from the underworld.]
Kyle heaved a sigh. "Then suggest a way, since I don’t want to sadden them by disappearing for a couple of days during the trip."
[The thought is appreciated and has been relayed, host. Rest assured, a decision will be made by tomorrow morning.]
Kyle nodded in understanding. Just as he was about to ask when Aleda would return—
CLANG
"Ow..." Something struck his head. It did not exactly hurt, but he could clearly feel the impact.
He turned, and indeed, a piece of metal scrap was rolling nearby, clearly thrown at him.
"Marvellous!" a voice rang out from the direction it had come from.
’System... you took a guarantee of her sanity, if I remember right,’ Kyle muttered inwardly, rubbing the back of his head.
"You have indeed surpassed my expectations, boy. Ah, I am so delighted to have an exceptional student after so long," she sang, as if Kyle were the paycheck she had received after months of working nine to five.
"If you are done indulging in your satisfaction, would you mind telling me what exactly is different about me?" No, he did not doubt that he was different. But what exactly he was, and how he could control the way he used magic, was what mattered most to Kyle.
"Hmm, let’s see. I have a few explanations to offer." She said, gesturing toward something.
Kyle turned and found a metal chair placed there.
He wordlessly sat down.
A green board appeared, hovering in the blank space, and the woman slipped into the role of a professor.
The lab coat did not quite match the vibe, but whatever.
"Alright, Genesis. If we talk about Genesis as just a fuel, then it can do a few things:
Heal
Augment
Accelerate
Fortify
And self-defense."
She finished.
Turning to Kyle, she added, "However, not all humans can use raw Genesis as a fuel. There are only a few, and nowadays they call themselves... um..."
"Special-ranked?" Kyle filled in.
"Right," she snapped her fingers. "Special-grade. These people have unlocked a way to use raw magic as a source for one of the features I listed. However, no one really relies on it when the situation demands focus on their primary skill."
She snickered. "I mean, you would not showcase your knife skills when facing a robber. You would use the knife to stab them, wouldn’t you?"
Kyle said nothing and waited for the topic to shift to him.
Aleda did not make him wait long. She continued, "You... on the other hand," she flipped the board, and two diagrams were already waiting for him.
One was similar to the hologram he had seen earlier, showing a brain connected with nerves spread across the body, reaching every internal organ. The other depicted a golden heart with countless golden nerves, as if an entire being was formed from those threads.
"Both of them reside within you," Aleda explained. "This one is active when you are not using your skills," she pointed at the human diagram on the left. "And this one awakens when you do." Her finger pressed against the golden structure.
Kyle frowned in confusion. "So you are saying I have a separate entity for magic that awakens when I choose to use it?"
Aleda tilted her hand side to side. "You are half right. Let me make it clear."
She tossed the marker aside, dusted her hands, and continued, "Your body has two nervous systems, yes, but both are parts of you. When you use magic, the other one hands control over to you. That means this golden system is yours to command. And when that happens, you gain full control over a vast amount of magical energy."
Now it was starting to sound more like him.
A vast amount of power, placed entirely in his hands whenever he used those gifts.
Aleda added, "That is why you have been failing to even scratch what you possess. You do not have a gauge to measure how much water is needed to nourish the crops. That is why you end up flooding the field every single time. You have the resources, but not the proper way to distribute them. Am I right, Mister Kyle?"
The green-haired boy nodded. "You are right." There was no shame in accepting his mistakes. After all, this whole concept, the very idea of magic, had been foreign to him just ten days ago.
But he would not let that become a cushion of excuses and grow comfortable with it. He would not settle until he at least had a way to stop himself from becoming a Genesis bomb every time he used his abilities.
And for that—
"Please teach me how to become better at it. No, not better. Teach me how to even control Genesis entirely, since I believe you know how clueless I am about this whole concept."
The woman grinned and crossed her arms over her chest. "A curious and desperate student is always welcome. Let us begin the class now."
