Chapter 36: One after another

Blood trailed down his nose and lips as Kyle watched the being staring back at him with nothing but amusement in its eyes.

He had been fighting for the past few minutes. However, the toll on his body was quite heavy.

[God’s Eye duration: 16 minutes]

Kyle glanced at the system’s warning about his ability. Apparently, he had been using it ever since he entered this battle zone. After all, given how fast these majins were, without the heightened perception he would have long died.

[Host...you should retreat.]

The system advised him, and truth be told, for a moment he also believed that would be for the better. However, it wouldn’t be often that he would come across an unregistered rift like this one. And he knew his body well enough to tell that he was far from the end of his rope. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

He could still fight.

As if the Majin had read his intentions, it moved. Its bald head reflected the sunlight seeping through the window. Its long claws curled and uncurled, and its broad feet shifted its body sideways, like a beast sizing up its prey before the lunge.

Kyle crouched and picked up the surviving weapon, a nail hammer. The tool had been damaged by none other than Kyle himself. Genesis had unintentionally seeped into it, burning the wooden shaft until it blackened. However, he didn’t have the time to go back and pick another weapon. He had to make do with what he had left.

The Majin’s face split into a grin, its red teeth radiating a crimson glow that made his heart tremble for a brief moment.

The monster crouched low, its fingers tapping against the surface. A moment of silence passed before—

"KRIHIHIHI!" It laughed hysterically and charged at him on all fours.

Kyle didn’t run this time. He charged forward as well.

The Majin jumped, its mouth splitting unnaturally wide, enough to chew his head off.

However, with his visual perception heightened, Kyle saw each of its movements at a microscopic level. The subtle shift of muscle, the tearing of tissues, the tension building in its limbs. He could see it all.

It was almost like predicting the future.

Kyle folded his knees and slid past the projection.

The Majin’s teeth met nothing, but it suddenly lowered its legs.

Kyle’s eyes widened as he tilted his head back. The monster’s toes missed his head by a breath.

Fuck, it was sharp.

Kyle sprang back to his feet and shot a pebble straight at the Majin.

Ting

The monster’s skeleton rang as the pebble struck its back.

Its head twisted on its neck while its body kept moving to the side.

Kyle sneered. "I have already seen that trick. It won’t affect me anymore." He wiped his nose and turned.

The Majin faltered for the first time as the human wasn’t charging at it but rushing toward the rift.

The weapon in Kyle’s hand glowed brightly. Genesis gathered around his fist like a blazing sun.

The Majin panicked and rushed straight at him, its body moving at an insane speed as the instinct to protect the rift surged within it.

Kyle reached the rift and cocked his fist.

The Majin lunged at him, teeth parted wide, ready to chomp off Kyle’s shoulder.

However, unlike what the monster’s instinct expected, Kyle suddenly moved to the side.

DHAK

The Majin’s teeth slammed into the wall beside the rift. The fangs were so sharp they lodged into the concrete, leaving the Knull resident hanging there.

Kyle shifted on his heel. His hip pivoted and his fist came around in a full swing.

"Die, you motherfucker!"

His fist slammed into the back of the Majin’s head—

BOOOOM

Another Genesis explosion erupted. Debris fell from the wall.

Kyle’s knuckles hurt and his breath came unsteady. However, when he saw the Majin’s body fall limply to the ground, its head missing, the pain was overwhelmed by elation and satisfaction.

[Congratulations, host!]

[You have earned 500SP!]

Kyle chuckled and backed away. His whole body ached, especially his hands, but none of it stopped him from laughing at the situation.

It took a few minutes, but he finally did it.

It was unexpected to face two big pups but in the end, thanks to the God’s Eye and the system’s guidance he was able to earn those big points.

A few wounds, but he killed those asswipes... and now...

"Huh?"

Kyle’s mind short-circuited as darkness suddenly surrounded him.

He looked around and found everything turning shadowy, as if the natural light had been swallowed by something.

His eyes couldn’t identify the cause of this sudden shift. However, he could feel it. This presence was completely different from what those majins had radiated.

Kyle felt his legs trembling under the pressure. All hope for life seemed to crumble into ruins.

’S-System...’ he called out, his face pale as a sheet and his fingers trembling at his sides.

[Host, you have gotten the attention of something strong. The God’s Eye can locate the escape route, however, the host would need a distraction to escape it.]

[Host, you are targeted by a Ghoul.]

Kyle’s breath hitched in his throat as he finally saw it.

A tall humanoid figure stood in the corner of the room, its back arched, nails long like scythes, its backbone jutting out while its entire head hung inverted.

It wasn’t merely its appearance.

Its presence was incredibly ominous, forcing Kyle to stagger back.

It felt as if all hope had been extinguished, every strand of happiness he had felt only moments ago fading into nothingness.

Just then, the system notified him,

[Host...the only escape route the God’s Eye could discover is the window behind you.]

[You have to jump out and run as fast as you can, host.]

Kyle didn’t know if he could do that. That thing was far too close and far too strong to wait for him to reach the window.

He knew he would be killed the moment he showed his back to it.

Desperation unlocked something in his mind.

A second route. A better way to deal with it. Risky, but feasible.

Taking a deep breath, Kyle commanded, "System..."

The Ghoul finally moved, but Kyle had already given the command.

"...use my points to get me Ethara’s reward."

I will kill this wannabe gho*tfre*ak right here.
