Stars In His Eyes-Chapter 1793: Sincere Feelings (Part 6)
He Da laughed softly, knowing that it must have been Chen Ning who first called the hotel front desk to inquire, but he didn’t expose her. She rarely felt proud, and he didn’t have the heart to discourage her.
After delighting in herself, Chen Ning put away her somewhat exaggerated laughter and spoke again, her voice noticeably softer.
"Have you had dinner? What are you doing now? Are you thinking about me? By the way, is your foot swollen? Is it uncomfortable? If you’re uncomfortable, don’t just tough it out. There’s ointment in the suitcase, and if it’s really bad, lean on the crutch tomorrow and let your foot rest well."
Chen Ning threw out a barrage of questions, leaving He Da unsure of which to answer first, so he had to follow her order one by one.
"I’ve eaten, and I am thinking of you." Thinking about whether she’d been put upon at home because of him.
At this point, He Da paused, looked at his swollen wound, and continued against his conscience, "My foot’s fine, I’m alright, don’t worry."
"I really wish I could come see you in person, but they won’t let me." Chen Ning actually knew that He Da was likely not telling the truth, which was why she said at the hotel entrance about wanting to take him up, wanting to personally check if his foot was injured.
"It’s late, girls shouldn’t be out." He Da reassured her softly, "I’m really alright. I’m over thirty now; if I can’t even take care of myself, how can I take care of you? You’ve been on a long flight, go to bed early tonight."
"I’m not tired, really, I’m not tired at all." Chen Ning explained rather hurriedly, almost wanting to jump up twice to show He Da she indeed wasn’t tired.
Originally, Chen Ning wanted to continue the call with He Da but suddenly thought he might be forcing himself to hold on, so she quickly changed her tune, "Yes, a little tired, I’ll rest then, and you should rest early too, okay?"
That change in tone happened between one second and the next; how could He Da not know?
He simply didn’t say anything, just humored her, and after hearing Chen Ning hesitate for a while before stammering and hanging up, he finally hung up too.
He knew that Chen Ning both wanted to talk to him and was worried he needed rest.
After hanging up the phone, He Da felt some regret, realizing he should actually have explained to Chen Ning that he wasn’t really tired and he too wanted to keep talking on the phone, to continue hearing her voice, listening to her speak, as if she were by his ear, rather than in a small building thousands of meters away.
Putting down the phone, Chen Ning couldn’t help but feel reluctant, standing alone in the little garden holding the phone, smiling and sighing, oblivious to when her cousin from her uncle’s family stood behind her.
"Why is it just a half-disabled person and yet makes our little Ning so smile and sigh alone in the garden? People who don’t know might think you’ve got some spell cast on you!" The man’s words were full of teasing.
"Cousin, you’re not allowed to call He Da half-disabled. If you keep saying things like that, I’ll cut ties with you!" Chen Ning angrily tossed the phone at the person standing in front of her.
"Alright, alright, I was wrong, okay? But, do you really like him that much? Though, I see that Dad doesn’t seem very satisfied with him, and whether he can pass Grandpa and Grandma’s approval is uncertain too." His Grandpa and Grandma are naturally Chen Ning’s grandparents.
