Chapter 1789: Chapter 1789: Sincerely Treating Each Other (Part 2)

Chen Ning heard this, looked in the direction He Da pointed, and was delighted. She instinctively shouted "Mom and Dad," then broke into a run towards them. But after just a few steps, she stopped abruptly, turned to look at He Da, grinned with teeth showing, and trotted back to Him Da’s side, saying, "I got so excited seeing my parents that I forgot about you!"

While talking, Chen Ning made a playful face at He Da and naturally looped her arm through his. Unlike the way she held his arm when they first got off the plane, this gesture was more like a little woman leaning on a big man, showing closeness.

"This child!" Not far away, Chen, seeing her daughter running towards her, only to turn around halfway and return to that man, didn’t know whether to be angry or to laugh. "She’s grown up, no longer under her parents’ control."

"Hmm!" Father Chen let out a light hum, seemingly a bit displeased.

Though he and his wife had always been strict with their daughter, the daughter remained close to them. But now, seeing that there was another man in her life on par with them, Father Chen felt uneasy, as if the blossom he carefully nurtured for years was plucked by some brat when he wasn’t paying attention!

And the kind who wouldn’t return it!

He Da walked slowly, and it took the two of them several minutes to reach the two elders. He Da was a bit nervous, opened his mouth, unsure of what to say, and could only call out "Uncle and Aunt," and then added, "How could I trouble you to pick us up from the airport?"

"I’m here to pick up my daughter." Father Chen glanced at He Da, scrutinizing him without showing it. From the first moment he saw He Da, he had been noticing his foot; He walked very slowly. If he hadn’t known about He Da’s condition beforehand, Father Chen wouldn’t have noticed he was missing a foot.

But this slow pace of walking made Father Chen, who lived in the fast lane, somewhat dissatisfied. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Clearly, you’re eager to see your prospective son-in-law, but you’re too shy to admit it?" Chen Ning was adept at teasing. She beamed brightly as she hooked her arm with He Da. Seeing her father’s frown at her words, she let out a chuckle, released He Da, and took two steps forward, linking one arm with her father’s and the other with her mother’s, softly complaining, "Dad, Mom, why did you suddenly change the meeting place? We had agreed to meet at the previous place, but you suddenly changed it, causing He Da and me to have to fly to another place and immediately take another flight here. Even though it’s all planes, sitting for long periods is uncomfortable and tiring!"

Chen Ning’s complaint stemmed from her concern for He Da. Originally, everyone agreed to meet in another city, where she later lived. But just when she arrived, her family told her that the meeting place had been changed to the city where she now stood.

"Foolish! I raised you all these years in vain!" Mother Chen, exasperated, lifted her hand and gave Chen Ning a tap on the head, a real thump, as she was indeed upset.

She and her husband arranged it this way mainly to test He Da’s temper and sincerity, and also to see how He Da was doing healthwise. Long flights are one way to test someone’s physical health.

However, aside from that, they had other considerations in mind.

Mother Chen had learned a lot about He Da from her daughter, including his unsavory past in this city.

While Mother Chen sympathized with a man with such a past, it didn’t mean she could trustingly hand her daughter over to him.

A woman’s mind is always more complex, and Mother Chen worried that growing up in such an environment, He Da might have some invisible shadows that could affect a person’s personality and mindset, even for a lifetime.
