Chapter 81: Looking Through The Loot 2

Aurelian’s fingers tapped once against the armrest of his chair as he thought about the third item.

That one was useless right now.

But only right now.

Once the carrier came online, that fighter wing would become one of the first real offensive tools attached to it, and for a shipgirl that specialized in long-range pressure, fighter reach and repeat strikes mattered more than flashy guns ever would.

He marked that one for storage.

The fourth item made him think of Rhoswen almost immediately.

[Tempest Ramspike (Blue)

Armor Slot Cost: 5

Classification: Ramming Weapon

Special Effects:

Shield Leech: In close combat, damage done to enemy shields is partially converted into your own shield value at a rate of 2.1%, increasing by 0.1% per level. Storm Rush: Active effect. Increases ship speed and maneuverability by 50%, and increases collision damage by 30%. Consumes 0.5% shield energy per second while active. This effect is fixed.]

Aurelian stared at it for a second longer than the others.

Then he let out a quiet sigh that evolved into a silent laugh.

"Oh, no," he muttered as he already thought about the consequences of this item.

Because if he gave that thing to Rhoswen, her favorite hobby was going to get much, much worse.

Still, he was not going to give it to her just because of that.

The item matched her far too well to ignore, and he has not given her anything major yet, so this can be his welcoming gift to her.

Astra, who had been standing nearby with him while Rhoswen had gone to the armory to replenish their supplies.

She saw the item and understood the look Aurelian had.

"This item fits her so well," she said.

"Yes, it’s almost as if it was left there just for her," Aurelian replied.

But he still marked the Ramspike for Rhoswen.

The last two blue items were accessory gear.

The first one was more specialized than he needed right now.

[Nanoforge Recovery Pod (Blue)

Accessory Slot Cost: 1

Special Effects:

Rapid Restoration: Repairs surviving lifeforms below Tier 4 at a rate of 2.1% per minute, increasing by 0.1% per level. Gene Purge: Can purify one targeted gene-based contamination or impurity from the lifeform within the pod. After use, the same target must wait one year before being purified again. This effect is fixed.]

Aurelian’s first reaction was confusion, then a slow sigh as another piece had to be left in the back of his storage, as there was no need for this item just yet.

This is because he did not yet have a standing human combat force on board, and while the pod could definitely become important later, especially if frontier work got uglier, it was not something he urgently needed this week.

So that one went into reserve.

The sixth and final blue item interested him much more.

[Silver Drake Tactical Mech (Blue)

Accessory Slot Cost: 5

Special Effects:

Drake Advance: Mobility increases by 21%, attack damage increases by 10.5%, with both increasing further per level. Elite Pattern: Unit count is reduced to one-fifth, but each mech becomes three times stronger than the baseline model. Based on combat history, elite variants may appear. This effect is fixed.]

That one was easy to like.

A more elite, more dangerous mech force was always welcome, and Black Crown had more than enough accessory space to take it without even feeling crowded.

Aurelian did not overthink it.

He assigned both the Silver Drake package and the two cyan mech sets from the graveyard haul to Astra’s ship.

Once all of that was added on top of what she already carried, Black Crown’s mech strength jumped again, and it became obvious that Astra’s flagship was quietly turning into a mobile command fortress that could also flood a battlefield with autonomous force when needed.

There was still plenty of space left even after that.

That was the nice thing about a ship like hers.

You could keep feeding it tools for a long time.

Rhoswen, by contrast, had far less room and a very clear personality. Aurelian did not bother stuffing more cannons into her loadout just because he had them. He knew exactly how that would go.

She would still choose the ram first.

That was not a flaw anymore.

It was simply part of who she was.

So he kept her fit, clean, and focused, giving her the Tempest Ramspike and leaving the rest alone for now.

After sorting the blue artifacts, he checked the remaining graveyard finds more broadly.

There was plenty of value in the cyan and white tiers, too, but most of it was duplicate equipment, useful, sellable, or good for future swaps, rather than things that demanded immediate attention.

What mattered was that the whole trip had widened his available options.

And that was before the repaired ships even came online.

By the time he finished sorting the haul, the next day had already almost arrived.

That meant the clue prices he had been waiting on would hit their floor soon.

Aurelian leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes for a few seconds, not because he was tired exactly, but because too many plans were stacking on top of each other now.

The ecological ship.

The purple shipgirl clue.

The future carrier.

The supply ship.

Larkspur Haven later on.

And behind all of that, the Omnic rift issue remained a quiet reminder that the wider universe was not going to politely wait for him to finish organizing his fleet.

When he opened his eyes again, he was calm.

This is because all of these changes are things he is willing to face head-on, as they are something he, as a commander, has to do, just like others who have their own challenges.

He looked through the deck glass toward the slipways again, where the family engineers were still tearing through the restoration work with the kind of precision only long experience produced.

Seven days for the carrier.

Three for the supply ship.

Tomorrow for the clue purchases.

And after that, more movement.

He rested one arm on the chair and let his gaze stay on the lit repair docks.

"Looks like I’ll be busy for a while," he said quietly to himself.
