Star Gate-Chapter 1455: A Horse Off the Reins (I)
Supreme Zhang smiled, seeing right through Celestial Pole. “If Silver Moon’s inhabitants are unwilling to come back with the rest, let them be! They seem to have produced their own ruler! Granted, with your personality, you’d much rather one thing less than one thing more. You’d want nothing more than for Silver Moon to remain where they are!”
Celestial Pole looked around sheepishly. How would he ever be that kind of person?
“In addition, I’m concerned that you’ll drop out halfway and find somewhere to sleep instead if you travel on your own. That kind of action is entirely up your alley! Have the Pagoda King accompany you!”
Celestial Pole’s jaw dropped. Was... was this appropriate? The Pagoda King’s even more afraid of death than me! What if we both decide to stop somewhere and just take a nap?
“I’m not worried about the Pagoda King being similar to you because while he’s afraid of death, he also wants to grow stronger.” The supreme smiled meaningfully. “I will also give him a tenth of the world origin if he comes back with the others. He’s only just set foot into second rank exalted emperor and may ascend to third or fourth rank after he absorbs that energy. Because of that, he’s much more proactive than you!
“I’m sending both of you out together because he’s also an exceedingly vigilant person. It is to his credit that he’s survived to present day. I may not be able to deem anything about your joint battle strength, but at least you’ll be able to ensure your survival. I don’t wish for you to die in search of Zhang An and the rest. Your father would not be happy about that!
“If it wasn’t for the fact that battle is at hand, your father would be the best candidate for this task!” laughed the supreme. Celestial Pole’s father was an exceedingly... indifferent powerhouse. He was a tried and true veteran exalted emperor!
Of the nine emperors and four sovereigns, the Western Emperor was a fifth rank emperor. As such, he was much stronger than regular masters of mid worlds. What a pity that he completely lacked all need and desire. He never sat if he could lie down.
They would have to give him all of a major world’s origin to have him take any sort of action. It was too hard otherwise.
Celestial Pole curled his lip without a word. My father? My father would want nothing more than for me to go and him to stay put! If I don’t go, he’ll have to go. I’m the only one who can sense my replica, but he might be able to get a hint or two through the power of the bloodline...
“Very well, so it’s the Pagoda King then. He’s not that strong, but he’s skilled at running away...”
Now isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?
“Go see Eternal Sword before you leave,” said the smiling supreme. “Ask him if there’s anything he wants to say. In addition...
“The new kind of Silver Moon might have something to do with the dao of time. That is a very strong and very unique dao, but also extremely conspicuous! They look to have been to the north of Red Moon in the past and are probably moving even further north now. The situation is even more disorderly there!”
“Even more disorderly?” Celestial Pole jumped with dismay.
“But since Silver Moon isn’t moving that quickly, you should be able to catch up to them before they reach the region of disorder!” the supreme quickly added upon realizing that he was scaring off the fellow.
Celestial Pole rolled his eyes. Now that was difficult to say.
“Given your personality, your replica should have clearly determined the situation since it’s survived to present day. There shouldn’t be any conflict between the two sides. Tell the new king that Silver Moon originates from New Martial, but it’s fine if he doesn’t wish to return to New Martial. He can come to us for shelter anytime if he’s in over his head one day!”
A jade pendant located in front of Celestial Pole. “Give this to the new king!”
Celestial Pole accepted it and glanced at the item, looking at the supreme with skepticism. “It’s not your replica, is it?”
“How could it be?” Supreme Zhang hooted with laughter. Meanwhile, Celestial Pole’s smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Because you often do stuff like this! A replica can also monitor if I’m carrying out my duties or not. It’s really so... annoying!
“That’s enough, you may go!” The supreme didn’t want to explain himself further. There was too much on his plate right now to deal with this guy.
Celestial Pole turned with a resigned look on his face and left. What an unexpected stroke of disaster! If he’d known that standing guard at Silver Moon would lead to this hassle, he would’ve never accepted the mission back in the day.
All of this was so much trouble! He’d thought his replica just needed to take a nap on a minor world.
When he walked out of the hall, another powerhouse who resembled a middle-aged man was waiting with a humble expression on his face. “Senior Celestial Pole, I’ve received orders from the supreme.” He smiled affably. “When do we embark?”
“Are you in a hurry to reincarnate?” Celestial Pole asked wordlessly.
“......” The smile remained on the person’s face and he didn’t grow irritated. “That’s not it, just that I’m afraid the supreme will throw us at the frontlines instead if he waits too long. Although you and I are exalted emperors, we’re much less than him when it comes down to things.”
With a war at hand, there was also a major benefit to this mission. It made it easier for them to run.
“What are you in a rush for!” grumbled Celestial Pole as he started walking. “There’s going to be a lot of dangers along our way and the return will be even more hazardous! Also, who knows if the new king of Silver Moon will release our people...”
The middle-aged Pagoda King blinked with new understanding and nodding. “That’s true! Without exception, all kings of new ages think very highly of themselves. That’s alright, this is why the senior and I are being sent there. We just need to keep a low profile and throw away our dignity. If it comes down to it, we can ask them very politely and beg them to help. There won’t be a problem then, will there?”
“......” Celestial Pole was speechless. Hot damn, you’re more shameless than me! ...now that I think about it, is the supreme sending us away now so that we’re not an affront to his eyes?
The great war is at hand, if the two of us hide and cower, we’ll be losing face for New Martial.
In that case, he might be sending us out so that he doesn’t have to be irritated by the sight of us.
He suddenly felt that they’d been discarded! How tragic!
Celestial Pole didn’t care to say anything, he would go see the Sword Sovereign. That little guy... No, he was just that guy now... was probably fifth or sixth rank. He was terrifying!
I wonder if the new king of Silver Moon has something to do with him. Silver Moon was Li family territory, after all. Perhaps the Sword Sovereign has some other thoughts about this matter.
......
On this day, a warship set out from New Martial and crossed the chaos. Two exalted emperors, infamous for their fear of death, stood at the helm and advanced in the direction of Silver Moon.
......
The void of the chaos.
It was hard for Panther to determine direction as well. All the dog knew was to run in the opposite direction of Red Moon. As of present, Red Moon major world was still their greatest threat.
It was too hard to come across another living soul in the limitless universe. There was no black or white, night or day in the chaos. While it’d been ten days in Silver Moon, Panther felt like it’d been running in place all this time. The surroundings looked the same and the star in the distance... still seemed very far away.
Li Hao was also immensely touched by their surroundings. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
In Silver Moon, an exalted emperor such as him could instantly travel from north to south or east to west. But in the chaos, he moved at a glacial pace. It was too hard to find another being out here.
His previous thoughts had been to pick a weaker being to approach and discuss the chaos with. But now... there wasn’t a single entity to be found, much less taking their pick of who they wished to be acquainted with.
It’d been their good luck to encounter a chaos beast as soon as they opened the Star Gate. The Red Moon exalted emperor had visited due to receiving orders, so that hadn’t been chance coincidence.
And here Li Hao had thought that the chaos teemed with heavyweights!
It would seem that the truth was the universe was too big and the powerhouses very few. There weren’t that many when they were all scattered throughout the chaos.
Or perhaps he hadn’t come across a more crowded area.
“Have we still not run into anyone?” The young man sat on Panther’s back with a mix of emotions. He didn’t like to stay in Silver Moon anymore. That entire world was just the size of Panther’s stomach. That was too small for him.
All powerhouses yearned for the chaos. And yet, it was so big that it was boring if there was no one to talk to. No one else being around also meant that there was no great fortune to be had.
Panther was quite at ease as it breathed chaos presence, strengthening itself and all of Silver Moon. Only with an improvement in the world could it improve as well.
As of now, there was room for Panther to continue progressing, but it was hard for the dog to escape the limitations of the world!
Li Hao hadn’t understood why Li Daoheng and the rest were so intent on devouring the world, great dao, and dao universe. Now he was starting to grasp their desire. If they’d fully seized all of those, then they stood a chance of entering the second stage of an exalted emperor. They would then eclipse a regular exalted emperor.
But with the way things stood now, they would still not match the Human King even if they’d succeeded. That personage was likely a third stage exalted emperor.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to detonate a dao universe. While Li Hao hadn’t taken a clear look at the explosion that day, he had sensed a thing or two that indicated it was the eruption of a dao universe that was far stronger than Silver Moon’s dao universe.
The young man was just contemplating how boring life was when he suddenly looked to the rear. Was someone there? Had they finally encountered someone?
His mood immediately lifted, as did alarm and unease grow. This blip was catching up to them from behind... could it be a Red Moon powerhouse?
Although he was an exalted emperor now, he was not a high level one. He could go for a round or two with regular exalted emperors, but wouldn’t be able to stand against powerful existences. His side also represented untold temptation.
A mid world and a dao universe were targets highly coveted by heavyweights, particularly dao universes!
Those were typically born to major worlds and major worlds always had premier powerhouses in residence. Wandering rogues loved most to swallow worlds that lacked protective heavyweights at the helm.
“Is something there, Panth?” Li Hao asked, since he was worried he was mistaken.
The dog growled in response. There was indeed someone there, and they weren’t slow. At the very least, they were faster than Panther because the dog hauled a world in its stomach. It was actually very slow because of it.
A humanoid figure appeared in the void in the distance. It was only a split second, but they seemed to notice Li Hao and the rest as well. They immediately ground to a halt and prepared to change direction. Powerhouses of the chaos did not like to clump together. That usually meant trouble.
Those that could travel through the chaos were at least of the exalted emperor rank. Their strength levels weren’t much different unless they were premier powerhouses. It was never a good development when conflict developed.
The one in the distance looked at Li Hao and Panther. He also looked to be human, but his form was a bit illusory. His presence fluctuated unsteadily; he seemed to be injured. For exalted emperors to travel with wounds indicated that their suffering was severe.
