Chapter 265: mission

Athena was ripping apart monsters with the ease that a child would tear a piece of paper. She was no longer attacking with pure chaos, but rather she was controlling the flow of the chaos as she brought destruction.

Her chaos now had a reddish glow, and it flowed like energy, she used it to attack and completely rip monsters into bits.

"Seems like she is handling herself pretty well." Aren said and then turned back to face his own battles, "I should too." He launched forward again, his speed so high he became like a blur, a werewolf attacked from above, he spun around, grabbed it by the neck and drove it right into the ground so hard the head shattered.

In the same moment he blasted forward, knee right into the head of a werewolf, shattering the skull in one move. He barely touched the ground before unleashing a barrage of Shadow blades through the air, cutting off the heads of multiple werewolves clean.

As he reached the ground, he looked around and realized that he, Athena and his shadows had completely wiped out the first wave.

Aren looked at all of this, he couldn’t help but smile, "this should make a pretty good army." He spread his hands apart and the shadow spread fast, consuming every single body that he had killed or his shadows had killed.

Aren wasted no time, he summoned each one after that, expending a huge amount of shadow energy, luckily, the current him had a massive reserve and could easily take this on.

"To be safe, let’s see what I have in the bag." Aren muttered, summoning the system screen.

Aren looked at the screen, it had been a really long time since he checked, basically because he was still the same, he had not done a lot to actually level up and grow, but now he wanted to ensure that he made it to level forty and evolve once again.

He looked ahead, his entire army behind him, the wave of monsters were still coming. He also noticed that battles were happening all around, which meant that more awakened were here and all of them were fighting for their lives right now.

But Aren knew that a huge amount would be trying to go up the mountain right now, which was another issue, he couldn’t allow anyone else there up first because that would trigger battles amongst themselves.

"Athena, get on a wyvern, let’s go, we are heading for the mountain." He said.

Athena nodded, the both of them got on the backs of two wyverns and immediately took to the sky, while the army of shadows followed behind.

They flew fast, and were catching up to the mountain fast, but then more wyverns and monsters headed their way, and that was when Aren noticed a massive wyvern behind the others. It had scales as black as night, with a touch of purple, and it was at least three times the size of the others.

He glanced back at Athena in the distance for a brief moment, and then made his decision.

"Athena, go!" Aaron said immediately.

She looked at him, confused at first, unsure why he was choosing to stay behind alone. But the look in his eyes told her everything, he was serious.

So she nodded.

Without hesitation, her shadow wyvern shifted direction and sped away, leaving Aaron alone to face the incoming wyverns.

Aaron gritted his teeth and gave his command.

"Attack!"

The shadow wyvern beneath him responded instantly, unleashing powerful blasts toward the approaching enemies. Aaron steadied himself on its back, bending his knees slightly to maintain balance as the wyvern twisted and turned midair.

The smaller wyverns rushed in from all directions, circling, diving, and firing blasts relentlessly.

But Aaron’s wyvern was faster.

It weaved through the attacks with precision, dodging and countering in one smooth motion. Its blasts tore through the enemies one after another, taking them down rapidly.

Within minutes, the sky had cleared.

All the lesser wyverns had fallen.

Now, only one remained.

The massive wyvern at the back.

Aaron’s gaze locked onto it.

The creature hovered in the air, its presence alone pressing down like a weight. The aura it emitted was terrifying, oppressive, ancient, and overwhelmingly powerful.

Aaron could tell instantly.

This wasn’t something ordinary.

This was a peak-evolved wyvern.

And it was far stronger than anything he had just fought.

Another problem... it could fly.

Fighting it in the air would be difficult, but going to the ground wasn’t much better. The land below was filled with other monsters that would only serve as distractions.

Aaron briefly considered summoning his entire shadow wyvern army to overwhelm it.

That would end the fight quickly.

But just as that thought crossed his mind—

The system activated.

[You have received a mission from an anonymous god.]

[Take down the peak-evolved wyvern with your own hands.]

Aaron frowned.

He looked at the wyvern.

Then back at the message.

There were no rewards listed.

No penalties either.

Just... a request.

From a god.

He clicked his tongue slightly.

Even though he hated the gods and everything they represented, he couldn’t ignore the potential benefits. Anything tied to them could bring rewards he might need later.

"...Fine," he muttered.

"I’ll do it myself."

He raised his head, eyes locking onto the massive wyvern once more. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The creature responded immediately.

It opened its mouth.

A dark energy began gathering within it, forming into a massive sphere far denser and more ominous than anything the smaller wyverns had used. The air around it distorted from the sheer power.

Aaron’s instincts screamed.

That attack...

Would kill him instantly if it landed.

His grip tightened.

This wasn’t going to be a normal fight, and he didn’t have all that of an advantage.

At the same time, something was happening amongst the angels and gods.
