Chapter 60: Goblin Hunting. (2)

The air blew gently over the leaves, making a melody sound to accompany the birds’ song.

The river flowed calmly, while acrobatic fish splashed in it.

It was like a musical show, a show only nature could perform.

A beauty reserved only for those who know how to observe.

Goblins weren’t among those.

Creatures mutated eras ago by the essence that emanates from outside the veil.

They retained some consciousness, they could communicate, create habitats, even create tools and trade.

However, most goblins didn’t manage to obtain such skills, since they were accustomed to simply looting and stealing.

Goblins had lost empathy, they didn’t even feel affection for their young. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

But still they were intelligent, and together very dangerous.

This tribe in general was more isolated, while sometimes they made trips to be able to rob nearby villages, their lair was too far from civilization for that.

It was all the beast-men’s fault.

They had to stay far from them, since with their sense of smell, they were capable of finding goblins kilometers away.

That’s why goblins had to hunt for themselves, make guards so no intruder would enter, and occasionally go to some village to loot if they needed more weapons or tools.

They lived in a cave, in an underground village.

There they lived well, or perhaps they just survived.

It was already getting dark, so it was time to return to the cave.

A few goblins stayed outside watching, they were guards, and were in charge of warning if any predator or intruder entered their territory.

The guards weren’t especially strong, their main function was to stay awake.

While some had old armor, most only wore an old loincloth and some weapon.

It was ironic, they wore that loincloth out of habit, since they completely lacked modesty.

In fact, while they had genitals these were completely useless.

Goblins reproduced asexually.

Goblins usually established themselves in humid and dark places, to be able to reproduce.

When several goblins gathered in a place with adequate conditions, mushrooms began to grow, which grew until becoming small baby imps, which when eating became goblins.

Many scholars and mages tried to unveil the secret and functioning of goblin reproduction, but couldn’t discover the mechanics and their operation.

So they simply associated it with "Ku."

Ku used to be the cause of all inexplicable things, until a more logical cause was found.

It was the void, the engine of all singularities, and while it existed, it was often misinterpreted.

The sun was setting, while the two moons began to be seen in the sky.

It was getting dark.

The last goblins were returning home, when suddenly, a strange buzzing began to be heard in the distance.

Goblins have very developed senses of smell and hearing, though in exchange they aren’t capable of distinguishing colors, and only see in black and white.

However, their hearing was enough to warn them something was approaching, and the guards became alert.

Then, a burst of insects appeared, a gloomy cloud that emitted an annoying buzzing.

The goblins at the cave entrance pointed their weapons at the cloud.

But the latter before reaching them, curved in the air, changing its trajectory and entering the earth.

The goblins observed strangely how the cloud of insects lunged toward the ground, being crushed with a splash, leaving a black puddle.

The goblins growled confused, observing the puddle warily.

Then, one of the green big-noses pointed at the puddle and began to laugh.

"Ke! Ke ke ke ke ke ke!" the goblin laughed while pointing at the puddle.

Apparently seeing how a burst of insects committed suicide crashing against the floor was very funny.

"Ka ka ka ka ka ka!" another laughed, also pointing at the puddle mockingly, while giving stupid little jumps.

A third joined the laughter, his laugh was different from the others’, it seemed like the mix between a bray and a pig’s squeal.

The goblin held his belly while laughing, until his knees failed and he fell to the ground, where he began to roll laughing.

Only one of the goblins remained serious.

He was the oldest of the group, and therefore the one with most experience.

He carried a halberd much larger than him, together with armor and a helmet.

He observed the puddle with distrust, there was something strange about it, something he couldn’t express.

It was as if the puddle were alive, something impossible, and that went against everything, but that’s what it seemed.

It was then that the goblin realized something much more shocking, the puddle was moving.

It was an almost imperceptible movement, so it was difficult to determine if it was real or not.

Was his mind deceiving him?

He didn’t know, but he wouldn’t stop observing because of that.

Then, his suspicion became real when suddenly, the entire puddle slid over the ground at great speed toward them.

"Ka ky KE!" the elder screamed, while jumping backward.

The other goblins could barely react, jumping backward too, except the goblin who was on the ground, who began to be swallowed by the puddle.

"Krriiii kriii!" the goblin screamed, upon realizing his situation.

Seeing how their companion was in danger, the two younger goblins had a brilliant idea, and began to stab the puddle.

The eldest goblin sighed while shaking his head in disapproval and extended his spear to the goblin in the puddle.

He grabbed it with his thin arms, while struggling to get out.

However, just when the eldest goblin was pulling the goblin out, the other two were dragged toward the puddle.

"Kereke!" the goblin screamed, while trying to pull the spear harder.

However the puddle became bigger, also expanding under the eldest goblin.

It was already too late, the four goblins were swallowed by the swamp of gluttony, while at the same time a figure emerged from the puddle.

"I suppose it’s time to massacre goblins," the figure said, while smiling.

Little by little the puddle began to become smaller and smaller, until practically fusing with the boy’s shadow.

The hunt was about to begin.
