Chapter 36: The Meeting. (1)

Lloyd was sitting in his seat, leaning back while his fist supported his head.

His cold gaze was fixed on the door, not because he was expecting someone, but because he was lost in his thoughts.

Who was that girl?

That’s what Lloyd wondered. Few times had his eye failed him like this.

At least, at Omicron rank it should capture her name.

However, there was nothing; though he was able to obtain information thanks to the other slaves.

She hadn’t had an easy life, that was obvious; however, what intrigued Lloyd was her supposed "incredible resistance."

She had endured conditions that other children wouldn’t have been able to.

Even adults wouldn’t endure something like that, it was fascinating.

Moreover, without a doubt the system wanted him to find her.

At first Lloyd believed the mission to take over Conrad’s fort had that specific date because it coincided with the beast-men’s arrival.

However, he also had a side mission to check the slaves; that girl was of interest.

The fact that his eye couldn’t capture anything made her interesting, though Lloyd couldn’t know how valuable she was.

A knock returned Lloyd to reality; the door had been kicked open.

A girl entered the room: her hair was golden, as were her eyes that shone like the sun.

On her head stood out two wolf ears, which were raised upward firmly, while her fluffy tail stretched, with bristled fur.

Lloyd noticed she was going to attack; however, Sebastian was there, so he didn’t have to lift a finger.

"Graaawr!"

The girl jumped toward Lloyd.

She was close, too close, about to fall on him.

Why wasn’t Sebastian doing anything?

Looking at him, Lloyd realized he hadn’t moved.

Perhaps she was so weak he didn’t see her as a threat?

But Lloyd didn’t have time to think too much about it; the girl had already landed on him, and raised her arm.

"Now you’ll see!"

Her fist descended toward his face; however, it never reached Lloyd’s cheek.

The girl went flying, gusts of air pushed her away from him.

"Tsk, damn it," the boy looked at Sebastian. "Why didn’t you do anything?"

Sebastian turned toward the young master, tilting his head slightly as if he didn’t know what he was talking about.

"What do you mean, my lord?" he asked with confusion.

"Why didn’t you stop her?"

Lloyd looked at Sebastian agitated; normally he used to be very protective, he didn’t even let a fly threaten him.

Of course, that changed in training.

"Oh! I would never dare interrupt the young master when he plays with his friend," he said firmly.

Lloyd’s jaw dropped. Friend? Since when?

"She tried to attack me, she’s not my friend," Lloyd said as if explaining something obvious.

"Really? What a shame, I thought you had finally managed to make a friend your age," Sebastian said sadly. "Now that you’re finally better, it was an opportunity to make friends, don’t you think? I don’t want you to grow up being so lonely, young master." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Lloyd’s eyes narrowed with confusion.

Just yesterday Lloyd had murdered a large number of people, without feeling any remorse about it.

Was Sebastian really treating him like a normal child?

Some memories came to Lloyd’s head: Sebastian tucking him in, preparing dinner for him lovingly, even carrying him on his shoulders when he got tired of walking.

Moreover, Lloyd was 12 years old in this body, so really, yes, he was a child.

"Don’t worry, Sebastian, I don’t need that kind of thing, my priority is to survive," Lloyd said while sitting up in his chair.

"I-I understand," the butler said with some sadness in his voice.

Lloyd’s face froze upon hearing the notification that sounded in his mind.

Hadn’t they given him less for killing a soldier yesterday?

They hadn’t even given him points for the two times he hit Sköll.

Had he hurt Sebastian that much?

Lloyd looked at the butler’s face, sighing.

He could understand it in a way; his mother was very close to Sebastian, surely he felt responsible for him, so while he wasn’t the most conventional guardian, Lloyd knew he was important to him.

Obviously, if you realize the child you’re caring for won’t have a childhood, you’d be sad.

Lloyd let out a sigh, defeated.

"Alright, Sebastian, I’ll think about it."

Sebastian’s face lit up immediately.

"Wonderful!"

A groan interrupted both of them: Sköll was getting up, in pain.

She stood up and looked at the boy angrily.

"Well I don’t want to be your friend, hmp," she declared making a pout, while crossing her arms.

"I think I can live with that," the boy said indifferently. "Well, what did you come here for this time?"

The girl turned, fixing her golden eyes on him.

"I came here to negotiate with the head of all this," she clarified with determination.

"I’m sorry, I don’t negotiate with rabid dogs," Lloyd said dismissively.

"Huh?" Sköll tilted her head confused.

He was the head of all that?

"Sköll!" a voice then shouted, then a beast-man entered the room. "Sköll, I told you to wait for me, you mustn’t be so impatient."

"I wanted to talk face to face with the boss, that’s all," the girl said annoyed.

Sebastian cleared his throat.

"These are Sköll and Gueri, from the Fenrir tribe. They came here to rescue their people, however, they discovered the fort had already been attacked. Well, I suppose you can imagine what they want to negotiate."

Lloyd nodded, obviously they wanted to free those from their tribe.

Lloyd didn’t see why not to do it, but he also didn’t know what they could offer in return.

It was then that Lloyd realized what Sebastian had said.

They were from the Fenrir tribe, and the girl was supposedly Sköll.

They were names that sounded familiar to him.

Sköll and her sister Hati were two characters from the novel.

Lloyd remembered both their stories: their tribe was massacred by the assassin guild, who sought to open their temple to recover an ancient artifact.

However, they didn’t succeed, and ended up taking them as "loot."

They were trained as assassins, but the protagonist managed to save them from their misery.

Lloyd sketched a smile.

Now he had the opportunity to steal an important piece from the dark society, and to get a powerful artifact.

That had become very interesting.
