SSS Demon King System: The Rise of a Dying Extra-Chapter 29: Garou, the Honorable Warrior. (3)
"Hey, old man," Skull warned.
The axe had impacted against the ground.
Garou had barely been able to dodge that attack; apparently the giant retained his speed even after death.
"I don’t think you’re in a position to get distracted, are you?"
"That’s right!" Clementine shot toward him, launching an attack with an open palm aimed at his chest.
The blow missed.
A slight movement of his forearm was enough to deflect the attack.
Without hesitation, the old man counterattacked, his palm impacted against the girl’s chest, sending her flying far away and denting her armor.
Garou saw how Clementine went through one of the destroyed buildings, then realized the danger.
"Shit!" Without hesitation, Garou struck his arm. Upon doing so, the limb fell to the ground, separated from his body.
Upon falling, the arm began to deform, as if something was moving inside it.
Garou felt relieved to have blocked with his damaged arm, apparently, the crazy one, just by grazing him, had managed to inject him with a dangerous substance.
The arm swelled until it exploded like a balloon, and from it several blood-colored spikes shot out, flying toward the beast-man.
He barely had time to deflect the projectiles, as he had to jump backward, avoiding the giant who had jumped on him, striking the earth with his axe and creating a shockwave.
Garou had to cover himself with his arm while being propelled backward.
As soon as he landed, he noticed how something coiled around his leg: they were undead insects.
What had coiled was a giant centipede.
Garou had to kick the air forcefully to be able to split the creature in half; though it was too late, it had bitten him, injecting him with a powerful poison.
Garou bent his knee, while his other leg was extended.
He could see how his veins turned green, but he didn’t hesitate.
The old man jumped, just in time to dodge a charge from Legran, and avoiding more bugs from sticking to him.
Spinning in the air, Garou struck his good leg against Legran’s neck, to use it as support and thus propel himself on his head.
The giant’s head sank into the ground, as the kick directed his acceleration downward.
Meanwhile, Garou landed on a wooden post that was still standing.
He began to control his breathing, directing pure prana toward his contaminated blood.
It was a dangerous process, but he managed to eliminate the poison.
However, there was no rest for the old man.
The insects began to climb up the post; in turn, five red spheres flew toward him, threatening him from behind.
The giant had also recovered, and decided to throw his axe as if it were a projectile weapon toward Garou.
The situation had become very dangerous. However, the old man’s eyes shone with determination.
Suddenly, an immense pressure was released.
The insects were crushed, as if an invisible hammer had sentenced them to die a second time.
Legran’s axe and the red spheres fell to the ground, as if the projectiles were ferromagnetic and the ground, a powerful magnet.
Skull fell to the ground, or rather was crushed against it, violently.
His back was hunched and his limbs were bent unnaturally.
Clementine simply remained stuck to the floor, while Legran... He managed to withstand the pressure, he hadn’t fallen.
His legs were bent, like springs that were about to release all their force.
Garou knew that as soon as the pressure ceased, he would be lost.
However, he couldn’t last much longer.
The moment the pressure disappeared, Legran shot toward Garou, impacting against him, and transmitting all his inertia to him. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
The beast-man was sent flying, traveling through the sky like a rag doll, which went through several structures before stopping when impacting against the great wooden wall.
His vision was blurry.
He was reaching his limit, or rather: that was his limit.
He was very old already. He still hadn’t healed from the old scar that Olaf, the giant king, made on him that time.
He had done well, he had entertained three powerful warriors, he had done them considerable damage, surely they could no longer continue fighting.
However, Garou didn’t want to give up.
He had no energy, he had no strength, he couldn’t even move, but: he couldn’t help feeling that something was wrong.
The old man closed his eyes.
He remembered Sköll’s charming smile, the slight tail movement Hati made without realizing it, when they scratched her behind the ears; his daughter’s adorable pouts, and how funny his son-in-law the fool got when he drank alcohol... And he also remembered her, and her precious silver hair; the reason he explored the land of the giants, even though he arrived too late to save her.
His whole life was passing before his eyes.
He had been very happy; so he couldn’t leave so easily, at least he had to make one more effort, for the smile he couldn’t protect, and for the tomorrow of those who must continue.
Suddenly, Garou’s eyes began to shine.
The omnipresent prana began to be swallowed, sucked as if it were dust and Garou a vacuum cleaner.
Normally one cannot take too much prana; prana is beneficial, of course, but it’s also very dangerous, in excess it could easily disintegrate you.
That’s why Qi is obtained by diluting prana in spiritual power, and that’s why cultivation focuses on finding a balance between both substances.
However, right now Garou’s spiritual core was being burned, overloaded: he had almost no spiritual energy, so he would overfeed the remaining spiritual power using all the prana he could.
The old man moved his trembling arm forward, while his fingers stretched little by little.
He could feel how his spiritual engine was burning, his spiritual channels would also pay the price for his actions.
However, he saw no problem with it, since after all, he didn’t plan to use them again.
Blue sparks came out of his fingers. He was molding spiritual energy; of course he could only use lightning at that moment, the element he had the most affinity with.
The energy spun and expanded inside his core, like a violent vortex.
He could see in the distance how Skull and Clementine recovered, and looked toward him; surely they must be very scared now; which pleased the old man.
His core couldn’t take it anymore, it was about to explode; but just before that happened, Garou emptied all that energy, directing it toward his fingertips, like a concentrated ray of energy.
A great golden splendor; that was the last thing Garou saw before dying.
Silence was established after the great roar that attack emitted, though it didn’t last too long.
"Fuck, I really thought we weren’t going to make it, that old man almost killed us," Skull came out from the rubble, while relocating one of his limbs; he was a lich, so he was immune to any type of physical damage.
However, spiritual pressure could become problematic, but it wouldn’t leave him much damage.
"DAMN IT!" Clementine exclaimed while raising her arms. "I wanted to be the one to kill that old man. Damn him, he preferred to make a suicidal attack... Though the fool missed," the girl mocked while laughing.
"Yes, even to me that final attack seems like a waste. Still, I won’t deny that old man put up a fight; the beast-men tribe has my respect."
"Pffft, I don’t care, I’m angry, I’ve lost the chance to make more works of art," the girl grumbled.
"If you had listened to me, and had gone to hunt the beast-men who escaped, you could have had fun... But well, it doesn’t matter, I guess now we just have to wait for ’him’ to take care of it."
"Yeah, I guess so... How boring."
