Chapter 14: Confessions. (1)

"Y-young master, what are you doing here?" the woman looked at Lloyd with confusion.

More than just confusion, there was also nervousness and surprise in her gaze.

The boy could notice how she cast furtive glances at the nightstand.

Quickly, Lloyd closed the drawer, praying internally that she wouldn’t notice his gesture.

In turn, he carefully pocketed the pendant.

Luckily, the woman seemed too agitated to notice those small gestures, which relaxed Lloyd, who quickly cleared his throat.

"What am I doing here?" Lloyd said, repeating Clarinda’s words. "I understand your question, but not why you’re asking it. Isn’t this my house? Don’t I have the right to do what I want in it? How dare you ask about things that don’t concern you?"

The boy’s tone was proud and firm, which left Clarinda perplexed.

Lloyd had always been a sickly boy who barely spoke; she never paid him too much attention because of that, since she really didn’t care.

However, now Lloyd showed the typical repellent attitude of a spoiled noble child.

Still, it would be too stupid of her to react badly in front of him because of it.

"I... I’m sorry young master, I just—"

"I didn’t ask for apologies, I didn’t ask for an explanation; I just made it clear to you that in no way can someone as insignificant as you question me. Now, don’t speak to me again unless it’s intrinsically necessary, understood?"

"Y-yes," the woman said, shocked by the situation.

"Good, I’m glad you understand."

Lloyd left the room with firm steps.

He supposed that if his attitude was repellent enough, she would forget the fact that he had been snooping in her room.

Still, Lloyd didn’t plan to let it go.

That’s why he headed toward Sebastian’s office; he had to show him the evidence he’d gotten.

With firm steps, the boy finally arrived at Sebastian’s office, knocking on the door before entering.

"Are you back already? I see you found them quickly, come on, come in, we have to get ahead on work," Sebastian’s professional voice could be heard behind the door.

When Lloyd entered he could see the butler next to a large pile of papers; he seemed very concentrated.

He works, administers, cooks, even serves as a spy.

Was there anything that old man didn’t know how to do?

"Leave the papers on the table, I’ll review them now," Sebastian said, without looking up from the document he was working on.

Lloyd smiled at that, and decided to play along.

Though, instead of leaving the papers Sebastian wanted, he left the pendant he had found.

"Thank you, huh? Wait, this isn’t what I— " Sebastian couldn’t finish his sentence. When he looked up, he found himself face to face with Lloyd, realizing his mistake. "Young master!" Sebastian jumped, getting up immediately while bowing so fast that his forehead hit the table. "I’m very sorry for not realizing it was you young master, I beg you to forgive me."

"It’s fine. That happened because you were very concentrated on your work, I appreciate the effort you make in taking care of everything," Lloyd responded kindly. Sebastian was a faithful servant, with many useful skills, he was surely his best ally right now; thanking him wouldn’t do him any harm.

"Young master... Your words move me enormously! They make all my effort worthwhile," Sebastian, in his usual dramatic attitude, proceeded to wipe away a tear falling from his eye, to magically recover his serious attitude. "Well, what brings you here? I see you’ve recovered your pendant."

"Yes, that’s right, though what will surprise you is where I found it."

"Where did you find it, young master?"

Before he could answer, someone entered the room.

"I already found the documents sir... oh, young master, what a pleasant surprise," the newcomer said with a sarcastic touch.

The one who had entered was Clarinda, who more than surprised seemed somewhat annoyed by the guest.

"Leave for a moment, Clarinda, I’m discussing something important with the young master."

"No, that won’t be necessary. I’m sure she might be interested in what I’m about to say," Lloyd said with a mischievous smile.
