Spoiled by the CEO after amnesia!-Chapter 744 - 724: Carrying a Ghost Child
The mansion, in the kitchen.
Auntie Li had just finished preparing the juice for the babies to drink later and was about to bake the little cookies in the oven.
The children loved these little snacks the most.
Once the babies arrived, they could eat while playing.
Just then, voices came from the foyer.
Upon hearing a familiar female voice, Auntie Li’s expression changed slightly, and she dropped what she was doing to go out.
Sure enough, Su Yan and Xiaolei arrived at Disheng carrying several boxes of toys.
Su Yan said softly, "Is Zaizai back yet? We’re here to celebrate Zaizai’s birthday. These are the gifts Xiaolei and I prepared."
Although the young master hadn’t invited the two, one was his stepmother and the other his cousin, the servants didn’t dare say anything and accepted the gifts.
With no masters at home at the moment, Auntie Li, even though she didn’t like the two, had no authority to send them away.
Besides, they had come bearing gifts for the young master’s birthday celebration.
She asked Su Yan and Xiaolei to sit on the sofa in the living room and instructed the servants to bring out two glasses of the juice that was already prepared from the kitchen and hand them to the two guests.
After sipping her juice, Su Yan said in a gentle voice, "You have a lot of work, don’t mind us. Go on with your duties, Xiaolei and I will just wait here for Xiaoyi and Zaizai to come back."
Auntie Li pursed her lips, "Madam, today the young mistress invited the young master’s classmates over. There might be a lot of people later, and we might not have time to attend to you."
Xiaolei saw that Auntie Li was clearly trying to send them away, and her face fell.
That was too much; even though she was just a cousin of the Huo Family, what right did a servant have to send her away with such a dismissive attitude!
Controlling her displeasure, she set her juice glass down on the coffee table with a bang, neither too gently nor too harshly, and said irritably, "Didn’t we say, we don’t need to be waited on, nor do we wish to bother you. I just want to wish my little cousin a happy birthday and give him the gifts myself. Is that alright?"
Seeing Xiaolei’s anger, Auntie Li didn’t continue and headed back into the kitchen.
The living room quieted down.
Seeing Xiaolei still upset, Su Yan’s gaze flickered imperceptibly and glanced at the glass of juice on the coffee table, picked it up, moved a few centimeters closer, and handed it to her:
"Look at you, why can’t you keep calm? Just take it easy. If your cousin sees you like this when he comes back, his mood will be spoiled again."
Xiaolei suppressed her anger, reached out her hand, and took the cup Su Yan was offering.
The water glass wobbled, and Xiaolei failed to catch it securely; the juice spilled onto her lap, drenching her skirt. She cried out immediately, stood up, and began patting her skirt.
Quickly, Su Yan also stood up, "I’m sorry, my hand shook... I’ll call a servant to bring a towel to wipe it for you."
Her whole skirt was soaked; what was the use of wiping it now?
All sticky with juice.
Xiaolei’s mood turned even gloomier, yet it wasn’t the right moment to throw a tantrum, she said irritably, "No need; I’ll go upstairs to my room to change into another skirt. There are still a few pieces of clothing in my wardrobe that I didn’t take when I moved out."
A thought struck Su Yan, and she hastily said, "Let me accompany you."
Xiaolei didn’t think much of it and uttered a sound of agreement.
The two of them headed upstairs, one after the other.
Auntie Li just happened to come out of the kitchen and saw them about to go upstairs; she hurriedly stepped forward to intercept them: "Where are you two going, Madam, and Miss Cousin?"
Su Yan frowned and spoke up in advance, "Can’t you see where we’re going? Miss Cousin’s dress got dirty from the juice spill, and I’m accompanying her upstairs to her room to change clothes."
Auntie Li glanced at Xiaolei’s skirt and, unable to say anything else, nevertheless stood her ground.
Xiaolei was already angered again, "What’s the matter now? Can’t I go to my room to change into my own clothes? Or should I just keep sitting here, sticky and uncomfortable? You servants call me Miss Cousin to my face, but in your hearts, you treat me as nothing at all!"
Auntie Li curled her lip, realizing her own awareness, yet could only say, "Okay, then I’ll accompany Madam and Miss Cousin upstairs."
Su Yan couldn’t help but frown, this Auntie Li truly lived up to being a servant of the Huo Family, just like her master she had quite the vigilance.
She said coldly, "Auntie Li, you’re not treating Ms. Xiaolei and me as criminals now, are you?"
This remark clearly provoked Xiaolei, who now became even more indignant, "Do you take us for thieves, watching us every step of the way? Let me tell you. This is the Huo residence, don’t forget, Su Yan is Mrs. Huo, and this villa is her home as well! Not to mention you’re just a servant, even our cousins have never treated her with such an attitude!"
Both playing good cop and bad cop, the servants at the side couldn’t help but step forward, surreptitiously tugging at Auntie Li, signaling to let it go and not to have a direct confrontation with the Mistress.
Auntie Li frowned and finally stepped aside.
Once they reached the second-floor guest room, Xiaolei could no longer tolerate her messiness and eagerly flung open the closet door, taking out a pair of jeans she hadn’t taken with her before, and dashed into the ensuite bathroom.
As the bathroom door slammed shut, Su Yan’s eyes flickered, and she deftly stepped out of Xiaolei’s guest room.
Having lived here during her visit to Yunling, she was naturally familiar with the villa’s rooms.
Huo Zhenyang’s study was right next door to Xiaolei’s guest room, very close.
Exactly as she had hoped.
She entered the study and quickly closed the door behind her.
Her gaze swept across the room and landed on a walnut brown glass-fronted cabinet.
The cabinet was packed with various files and documents.
She had been his chief secretary for four years.
Nobody knew better than she did about his work habits, including where he liked to keep important files.
She walked over and tentatively pulled open the cabinet.
Sifting through the files on the bottom shelf, a silver-gray safe came into view.
Su Yan knew that was where he kept important items.
She held her breath, carefully cradling the safe.
Something deep inside told her that what she was looking for might well be inside.
Having been the chief secretary, she was broadly familiar with Huo Zhenyang’s work passwords, some of which she had even set herself.
She tried several passwords, but none were correct.
Just as she was about to try again, footsteps could be heard from outside, it sounded like Auntie Li was coming upstairs.
In a panic, she quickly shoved the safe back into the cabinet, restoring it to its original place.
Just as she was about to leave, Auntie Li’s footsteps grew closer, as if heading towards the study.
Her heart pounded fiercely, cold sweat breaking out on her back.
The door to the study was ajar and not fully closed. Auntie Li must have noticed and come to check.
Damn, going out now would mean bumping right into Auntie Li!
At that moment, the footsteps outside abruptly stopped.
"Auntie Li, the tap in my bathroom seems to have a problem, could you come and take a look for me?"
It was Xiaolei, calling out to Auntie Li.
Auntie Li hesitated for a moment and finally headed towards the adjacent guest room, not entering the study after all.
Su Yan relaxed from her tense state and let out a sigh of relief.
Just then, the door to the study was yanked open with a bang.
