Chapter 74: Chapter 72: Don’t you have a shelter?

Huo Zhenyang saw her push him away, his brows twisted in displeasure.

Was it such a big deal to have borrowed her little hand? Was there a need for that disgusted expression, as if she had stepped in shit? 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Just then, a knocking sound arose, followed by the voice of Aunt Ping from outside:

"Is Mr. Huo in Miss Jiayi’s room?"

Huo Zhenyang furrowed his brows, "What’s the matter?"

Aunt Ping hurriedly said, "Some people from the police station are here; they’re looking for you."

The police station?

Jiayi was startled and, forgetting her annoyance, looked toward him.

Huo Zhenyang spoke loudly, "I’ll be right down."

Then, approaching her again, he cupped her chin, "Stay upstairs, I’ll be back soon."

The closer Jiayi got to him, the more she remembered the scene on the balcony just before.

Who cared if he came back?

She angrily shook off his hand.

————————

Downstairs in the villa, in the living room.

Mu Qingran was draped in a coat, leaning on a female police officer, dead drunk, unconscious.

On her fair and smooth forehead was a shocking wound, freshly scabbed over; obviously, it had only stopped bleeding not long ago.

A male police officer explained the situation, "Mr. Huo, this young lady got dead drunk at a bar downtown, was harassed by some local thugs, and got into an altercation. She was injured, but luckily someone called the police, and we arrived in time to prevent anything worse. Unfortunately, she had no identification on her and isn’t a local, so we couldn’t locate her address. When we asked where she lived, she kept repeating the address of Phoenix Villa and also kept mentioning Mr. Huo’s name. Therefore, we had no choice but to bring her here. Do you recognize her?"

Aunt Ping had already recognized Mu Qingran; wasn’t this the ex-fiancée of Mr. Huo? She exclaimed in surprise, "It’s Miss Mu..."

The two police officers looked at each other, further convinced there was a connection between Mu Qingran and the owner of the villa. They looked at Aunt Ping, "Can you tell us what the relationship is between this young lady and your Mr. Huo?"

Aunt Ping, nervously glancing at Mr. Huo, eventually revealed under pressure from the police, "She was my master’s former fiancée."

The male police officer immediately said, "Then, Mr. Huo, we will leave this young lady in your care for now."

Huo Zhenyang sat on the sofa, his long legs lazily resting over the knee of the other, his gaze cold, "As my servant has said, she was my ex-fiancée, not my current one. I don’t just take in anybody here. Doesn’t your country have homeless shelters?"

"Mr. Huo, the young lady is still not sober and only remembers you. Also, she is gravely traumatized. Since you are a relative or friend, it seems only right and proper for you to take responsibility for her, at least until she sobers up and her emotional state has stabilized," said the female police officer, her eyebrows furrowing in disapproval of the man’s indifference.

At the spiral staircase.

Jiayi stepped out of her bedroom, stealthily glancing toward the living room.

Although she was still angry with Huo Zhenyang for his domineering disregard for her opinion, she was a bit worried when she heard that the police were looking for him.

Fearing something had happened, she couldn’t help but sneak out.

She overheard the conversation of the people below.

So, it was Mu Qingran who had been brought by the police. As soon as Huo Zhenyang had left Banan Vineyard, Mu Qingran had gone to a bar to drown her sorrows, getting into this state, barely escaping being taken advantage of, and now even gave out the address of Phoenix Villa, resulting in being escorted here by the police...

Did she really drink to numb her heartbreak?

Or was it deliberate?

Huo Zhenyang heard the noise from upstairs and glanced over.

On the second floor, at the corner of the staircase, the petite figure tried to hide, but still fell within the man’s field of vision.

"Mr. Huo, if you have a certain relationship with this lady, according to our country’s law, I believe we can enforce her temporary shelter at your place." The male police officer spoke again.

Aunt Ping was skeptical. The law? Against Mr. Huo and the law?

Mr. Huo could toss out a bunch of legal teams in minutes and completely blast away the so-called law of Suwang Island.

Just when Aunt Ping thought Mr. Huo was about to fly into a rage and tell the police to get lost, she saw Huo Zhenyang’s eyes flicker coolly, "In that case, let’s keep her here for now, and after she sobers up, we’ll send her away."

The servants were shocked. Why had Mr. Huo suddenly compromised?

This was totally out of Mr. Huo’s character.

Jiayi was also somewhat surprised.

He agreed to temporarily shelter Mu Qingran?

Huo Zhenyang’s gaze held a trace of inscrutable cunning, imperceptibly glancing at the little figure upstairs.

Perhaps, Mu Qingran’s presence could make that little girl jealous.

That way, would she confront her own feelings? No more dilly-dallying.

If that could be the effect, keeping Mu Qingran for one night might not be too bad.

———

The next day, Jiayi rose early in the morning.

She intended to catch up on some sleep after completing her business trip.

But last night, the injured Mu Qingran unexpectedly stayed at Phoenix Villa, making Jiayi restless, and she couldn’t sleep well.

Mu Qingran was Huo Zhenyang’s ex-fiancée, and now she was Huo Zhenyang’s fake girlfriend; living together, what was that all about?

And that man was even more infuriating.

One moment he was in the bedroom forcing her to do those embarrassing things, the next, he let his ex-fiancée stay over.

He was simply scum!

Although Mu Qingran was unconscious from drinking, injured, and almost taken advantage of at the bar, throwing her out in the middle of the night wouldn’t be right, especially since the police had brought her here, but...

Why was her mood so bad?

With these thoughts, Jiayi’s originally decent morning mood also faded.

She changed her clothes and went downstairs.

Aunt Ping had already prepared breakfast, greeting her, "Miss Jiayi, come and eat breakfast."

Jiayi had just sat down at the dining table when she saw a beautiful figure, assisted by a maid, also making her way over.

Mu Qingran had slept in the guest room on the first floor last night and had just sobered up this morning; now wearing a gossamer-thin nightgown, her young face still pale from the hangover, and her forehead bandaged with white gauze, she weakly leaned on the servant, coming out to eat.

Aunt Ping glanced at Jiayi and pulled out a chair, "Miss Mu, please have a seat, breakfast is ready."

Mu Qingran slowly sat down, saying gently, "Thank you, Aunt Ping." Then, with a glance at the breakfast, she softly added, "Aunt Ping’s cooking, still as good as it was a few years ago, and she knows I love sunny-side-up eggs with orange juice."

Jiayi had been clear since yesterday that when Mu Qingran was the Huo Family’s fiancée, she had visited Phoenix Villa on Suwang Island, and she was quite familiar with Aunt Ping and the others.

"Miss Jiayi, why are you staring off into space? Eat up, it’ll get cold," Mu Qingran, turning the tables, very politely said.

Aunt Ping was nervous. Miss Jiayi was Mr. Huo’s girlfriend now, but Miss Mu was acting like she was the host. Miss Jiayi would surely be upset.

But Jiayi didn’t say anything, quietly starting to eat her breakfast.

After breakfast, seeing that the weather was nice, Mu Qingran said softly, "Aunt Ping, I would like to take a stroll in the garden."
