Chapter 402: Chapter 400 Godfather Arrives (Part One)

Jiayi nodded and glanced at the small sedan suitable for ladies, she couldn’t help but sigh with relief. Having a car made getting around much easier, not only for commuting to and from work and going to Disheng but also for taking Zaizai out on weekends.

Even more precious was the fact that she didn’t have to bear any expenses, it was like enjoying this means of transportation completely free of charge. Thinking this way, working as a maid at Disheng really seemed quite worthwhile.

It had been a long time since she had driven, and she felt a bit rusty as she hit the road, but once she reached the spacious streets, Jiayi got the hang of it again.

When she arrived at the Yundu Building and entered the parking garage, it was clear that Ade must have given a heads-up in advance.

The security had prepared a special parking space for her, Jiayi parked the car, and for the first time, she walked into the company with her heart steady and her legs firm.

At noon, Jiayi knocked on Fang Yao’s door and requested half-day leave to take her son to an interview.

Fang Yao lifted her head from behind her computer and did not hesitate long, "Okay, just send an email to HR following the procedure and say that I’ve approved it."

The women’s clothing design department was always busy, and now that Jiayi was the person in charge of the UA design case, she was really worried that Fang Yao might not agree.

Seeing her agree so readily, Jiayi was delighted and quickly nodded, "Thank you, Director Fang."

When she first joined Yundu, she was somewhat in awe of Fang Yao – after all, she was her direct supervisor and had such an authoritative style on a daily basis.

Latterly, due to the misunderstanding with the UA clothing alterations, she had resisted Fang Yao even more, but now, all that was left was gratitude. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Fang Yao looked up again, her face carrying an inexplicable hint of a smile, her gaze warm and comfortable over the office desk, a rare sight compared to her usual strong-willed businesswoman demeanor, "Go ahead."

Jiayi nodded, "I won’t disturb Director Fang’s work any longer." She then left the office, closed the door gently behind her, and just as she turned around, she saw Tong Xiaomian standing right in front of her, surprised, "Xiaomian, do you need something?"

Tong Xiaomian shook her head, her face always adorned with a gentle smile, and stepped closer to lift Jiayi’s hand, "Nothing, just seeing you come over to ask for leave and wanted to see how it went." She pointed towards the Venetian blinds and whispered, "Director Fang rarely allows leave, I was worried she might disagree."

Jiayi reassured her, "Director Fang has agreed."

"Really?" Tong Xiaomian was surprised and then relieved, "It seems like Director Fang is really good to you. I reckon even if it were her own sister, Director Fang would remain impartial and not go easy on her."

It wasn’t surprising that Tong Xiaomian was so astonished; Fang Yao indeed was always fair and impartial, very decisive when it came to official matters, and did not entertain personal feelings.

Jiayi was also a bit surprised by how nice Fang Yao was to her, and she smiled slightly, "As long as one works diligently and hard, the superiors will certainly take notice. Director Fang may be business-like but she isn’t the type of person who is completely unsympathetic."

Tong Xiaomian laughed, but her smile was obviously a bit stiff.

After asking for leave, Jiayi drove back to the Fuyah Residential Area and picked up Zaizai to head to Qixing Kindergarten.

Zaizai sat in the back seat, touching the soft cushions and looking out at the passing scenery, his cheeks flushed with excitement, "Mommy, when did you buy the car, and how come Grandma and I didn’t know about it!"

Jiayi smiled, "It wasn’t Mommy who bought it. Mommy has only been working for a few months, how could I afford a car? It’s provided by the company for Mommy’s work."

She hadn’t had the chance to tell mom about the car yet, but Jiayi had thought up an excuse in the morning, saying it was provided by Yundu for the convenience of the designer’s assistant’s work.

For a large company like Yundu, providing a car for employees wasn’t unusual.

Especially since Mommy knew that she had been greatly valued by her department’s superiors recently, having taken sole charge of a case soon after her probation, and sometimes having to go to UA personally; under such circumstances, it wasn’t strange for the company to provide a car.

But Zaizai looked doubtful, raising an eyebrow, "Really? The company provided it for your work?"

"Don’t you trust Mommy’s capability?" Jiayi, feeling guilty, pretended to scold.

Zaizai shrugged his shoulders, "Fine, let’s just say the car is a gift from the company to Mommy. What about my interview?"

Jiayi broke out in a cold sweat, "Didn’t I tell you, it was Auntie Chen whom your grandma knows who helped us get the interview opportunity."

Zaizai, sly as a fox, said, "Really? Then why is Mommy sweating? Last night, I was playing games on Mommy’s phone and I saw the text message from the bad uncle, with the time and place of the interview for today."

This darn kid, messing with her phone again!

Having no choice, Jiayi could only clear her throat twice, "Let’s not tell Grandma about this, okay?"

Zaizai understood instantly that it was the bad uncle who had arranged the interview, pouting, "I get it, you think I’m dumb?"

Sighing, Jiayi knew she couldn’t really control this little rascal, but in this regard, the little one was quite sensible, knowing what to say and what not to say.

Turning the steering wheel, after circumventing the final street, the mother and son finally stopped at the main entrance of Qixing Kindergarten.

There were several families with kids attending interviews that afternoon, with quite a few cars parked at the entrance.

Most families whose kids were here for an interview at Qixing had robust backgrounds, so the cars were more expensive and impressive, some even accompanied by family drivers.

Jiayi began to feel somewhat relieved; thankfully, that man had timely provided a car for her, at least not letting others look down upon her.

After all, one of the enrolment criteria for Qixing Kindergarten did consider the family’s financial situation.

After parking the car, Jiayi took Zaizai’s hand and they walked into the kindergarten.

As a key model bilingual kindergarten in the city, Qixing Kindergarten lived up to its reputation with excellent hardware and software resources, leading the facilities of all kindergartens in Yunling City.

Of course, what interested Zaizai the most was the playground outside the kindergarten.

Just then, a group of preschoolers were playing under the teacher’s supervision on the playground, their lively laughter and chatter reaching them in waves.

Zaizai looked enviously at the children, holding his mommy’s hand, not wanting to move an inch.

Of course, Jiayi could guess what was on Zaizai’s mind; he very much wanted to play with peers his age.

No matter what, she was determined to get her son into Qixing.

Thinking this, she squatted down: "Zaizai, you’re about to have your interview, are you confident?"

Zaizai nodded vigorously, "Of course!"

Jiayi rubbed the little tyke’s head and, holding her son’s hand, they headed to the floor where the interviews were taking place.

There were already a few pairs of parents with their children, waiting in the outside corridor for the teacher to call them in for the interview.

Getting into a key kindergarten was a big deal, with most parents coming together with their child for the interview.

Some families went to even greater lengths, bringing along grandparents as well.

Jiayi, holding Xiaobao, became the odd one out, sitting alone on the side, appearing isolated, waiting for the teacher to call them in.

The voices of the nuclear families started to drift over from nearby.
