Chapter 361: Chapter 359: Would this woman die if she doesn’t eat now?

Little Meatball’s milky voice asked, "Mommy, did you succeed in the interview?"

Jiayi covertly glanced at the man beside her with the corner of her eye and, covering half the mouthpiece, lowered her voice, "Mm, I passed and can attend the re-interview."

Zaizai on the other end was ecstatic, "Mommy is so awesome, I knew Mommy was very impressive."

Jiayi uttered an affirmative sound twice, feeling an inexplicable surge of pressure. Just seeing her son this happy, she absolutely had to get into Yundu; otherwise, Zaizai would be so heartbroken.

"Alright, let’s not talk anymore, I’ll be back soon," she said in a low voice.

"Then gimme a kiss, Mommy."

Jiayi glanced again at the man beside her, "It’s not convenient right now, baby."

Although she spoke softly, Huo Zhenyang still heard her; his thick brows furrowed tighter as he cast a glance at the woman beside him.

"No way!" Mommy used to kiss him over the phone after class at Yun University; Zaizai was long accustomed to it.

Feeling helpless, Jiayi could only make a kissing sound into the phone, "There, happy now?"

Zaizai finally hung up the phone, satisfied, and continued watching TV.

The space inside the car was limited, so the kissing sound was particularly loud.

Jiayi looked at the person next to her.

The man had a handsome face with a deep coldness as some disdain flickered in his eyes, his expression saying, "Girls these days still don’t forget to flirt with men in front of strangers."

She didn’t bother to explain and didn’t need to either. She put the phone back in her bag, turned her head to look out the car window, and suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind. She called out to Ade:

"Sorry! Could we stop by the nearest KFC?"

This morning before leaving home, she had promised Zaizai she would bring back his favorite fried chicken. A promise made to a child absolutely cannot be broken.

"Go to KFC?" Ade, who was driving, seemed surprised.

Jiayi nodded, "Yes, sorry for the inconvenience, I need to buy some fried chicken."

Fried chicken? Is this woman going to die if she doesn’t eat it now?

Huo Zhenyang’s expression immediately soured. He had planned to have Ade simply drop the woman off on the way, and now he had to take a detour to get this woman some fast food?

Jiayi pleaded with a look, "It’ll just be a few minutes, thank you."

The man struggled to contain his displeasure but finally instructed, "Ade, go to the nearest store."

"Yes," Ade replied, turning the car toward the nearby KFC.

They arrived at the closest KFC, which was bustling with activity due to the lunchtime rush, and it was full to bursting.

In front of each cashier was a long queue.

The BMW came to a stop at the KFC entrance.

Jiayi got out of the car, and seeing her unsteady gait, Ade couldn’t help but ask with concern, "Miss Chu, are you sure your leg is okay?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"It’s fine. Just wait a bit," Jiayi responded and then entered the fast food restaurant, choosing a line to join.

"What a hassle," Huo Zhenyang mumbled as he glanced at the woman queuing up for fried chicken, his thick brows knitting together.

He’d never set foot in such a trashy fast food joint; how could he have imagined that the line at KFC would be this long at this time? He thought it truly would just be a few minutes. Had he known the wait would be so extensive, he would never have agreed!

He glanced at the small woman at the end of the line, his thick brows deeply furrowed as he buried his head back down, continuing to look at the business tablet.

In KFC, after queuing for about ten minutes and still not reaching her turn, Jiayi’s wound started to hurt again, but what worried her the most was that the people in the car might be getting impatient. She couldn’t help but lean slightly out of the queue and take a quick glance through the glass window.

The cold-toned BMW’s half-profile of the man inside looked like a sculpture from the middle ages, with a head slightly bowed and a neck lowering at a perfect angle, his features hard and cold, nearly devoid of warmth.

Seeing that he didn’t seem impatient, she breathed a sigh of relief and was just about to pull back when she was bumped from behind!

The bump was hard, and with the injury on her leg, she staggered and slid out of the queue.

Turning back, she saw a young man with dyed blonde hair holding his girlfriend, who also had hair dyed in various colors, having cut in front of her in the line.

The blonde seemed not to have seen Jiayi, still hugging his girlfriend and joking around as if nothing had happened.

A surge of anger rose in Jiayi, and she approached, trying her best to calm her fury, "Excuse me, sir, I believe you’re standing in the wrong spot?"

The blonde took a step forward, blocking her, his voice louder than hers, "What’s this, cutting in line?"

"I was standing in front before, it was clearly you who cut in line," Jiayi snapped back.

"Didn’t you just walk away, not wanting to queue anymore? After stepping out, you want to come back? Are you ignoring everyone behind? Go back to the end and queue up again!" The blonde was being unreasonable.

Jiayi realized that she had encountered someone deliberately being illogical, "Who saw me go out? I never left the queue!"

The blonde played dumb, "Then who saw that you didn’t go out?" He turned his head and shouted at the increasingly long line behind him, "Did you see? ...And you? Did you see? Did anyone see this chick not leave the queue?"

In the middle of the day when everyone was rushing to eat and with such a long line, of course, people would prefer one less person in line; besides, taking one look at the blonde, it was clear he wasn’t someone easy to mess with—who would bother offending him?

In the queue, there was silence, not a single person spoke up.

"Oi, don’t waste your breath on her. Just let her go back to the end of the line," his girlfriend, with hair dyed like a peacock, whimpered.

The blonde hugged his girlfriend, kissed her, and didn’t spare Jiayi another glance.

Did this couple think she was an easy target because she was alone?

Jiayi clenched her fist, turned back, and saw the serpentine line even longer than before—if she had to queue again, it would probably take more than half an hour.

Just as she was about to step forward again to argue her case, a hand pressed down on her shoulder and pushed her aside.

She turned and saw the man from the car, his face full of coldness, standing in front of her.

He had come into KFC? Was it because he had grown impatient?

Just as Jiayi was about to speak, she saw that he had already stepped forward forcefully, "You two, get lost."

Five simple words, uttered neither lightly nor heavily, but in the noisy queueing area, they were like a bomb, instantly silencing the clamor.

The eyes of the diners all converged on the man who had seemingly fallen from the sky.

The man’s features were deep and exquisitely handsome, his brows cold, his gaze icy, exuding an aura of authority without anger, his tall and robust figure clothed in a neatly pressed black business suit that fit him flawlessly, clearly a custom-made piece of exorbitant value.

A man with such a presence and attire, how could he possibly come to eat at KFC? He stuck out like a sore thumb!

The men and women in line whispered among themselves.

The blonde was stunned for several seconds, then realized the man was speaking to him.

Although somewhat intimidated, he refused to show weakness especially in front of his girlfriend. With eyes as wide as copper bells, he challenged,

"Who are you to tell us to get out? We’re in line here, by what right do you tell us to leave—"
