Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Are You Worried About Something Happening to Me?

Evelyn’s eyes lit up. She turned around and saw Caden Lockwood. She immediately rushed over, raised her hand to touch his forehead, and anxiously asked, "Uncle! Are you okay? Does your head hurt?"

The touch of her palm felt a normal temperature. She then flipped open his suit pocket, and as expected, there was no small medicine bottle inside.

"How can you be like this?" She stomped her foot in anger, "Didn’t I tell you that if you’re sick, you should carry your medicine with you? What if your headache acts up again and you don’t have medicine or anyone to help you? You’re so young, why do you disregard your life like this? Do you know how many people would give up everything for good health?"

Caden’s dark eyes noticeably flinched.

He stared at Evelyn, her face slightly pale and tense, and her charming face was covered in sweat. Her eyes were particularly striking, clear without a hint of distraction, reflecting a tiny him, as if he were her whole world.

His heart suddenly moved. Looking at her, his gaze softened, and her nagging seemed to him like beautiful music.

She was showing concern.

Her concern, like her gaze, came without any ulterior motives.

A strong sense of guilt surged in his heart, and he doubted if he was worthy of her sincerity.

"Uncle, I know, maybe you think carrying a small bottle of medicine in your pocket is undignified. How about this, I’ll sew a small cloth bag in your pocket, and you can wrap the pills in cling film and put them in there, so it won’t affect your appearance! I promise to sew it well, it won’t..."

Before she could finish her sentence, a force pulled her forward, her head bumped into a solid chest, and immediately, a large hand tightened on her back, holding her tightly.

"Uncle!"

She reacted strongly, trying to push him away.

But it was useless; he was almost embedding her into his body, hugging her so tightly it hurt.

"You silly woman!" His voice was low and hoarse, "Who let you climb over the gate to come in?"

"Why didn’t you open the door when you’re at home?" she raised her voice in question, "Unbelievable!"

A faint smile suddenly tugged at his lips. Holding this soft body in his arms seemed to erase all his anger and worries.

"I fell asleep." He released her, casually giving a reason, "Woken up by your noisiness. What? Were you really worried something might happen to me?"

He thought she would be shy, dodging the topic with some excuses.

He thought she would be reserved, justifying herself with more reasoning.

Unexpectedly, she boldly admitted it, courageously, making him start to feel unworthy.

"Yes!" she responded simply, "It’s not like you’re my enemy; why would I want you dead?"

His expression momentarily froze, and something surged in his calm, dark eyes, something akin to pain or worry.

Meeting her probing gaze, he suddenly smiled, looking at her with a sense of relaxation and joy.

"Hurry up!" she urged, "After I clean, make dinner for you, I need to rush back home for dinner! If I’m not home, Aunt May will scold me!"

He walked to the door, "Put your hand here." His tone was commanding.

She complied, placing her index finger on the fingerprint scanner, and soon after, the door opened by itself.

"Next time you come, just open the door yourself." His voice was light and casual, as if it were the most natural thing to do.

She looked sideways at him, meeting his deep, mysterious gaze. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Her heart suddenly sped up, beating loudly, startling her. She quickly walked into the room, moving so fast that she didn’t notice the wall and bumped right into it.

"It hurts—"

She clutched her forehead, her tears nearly falling.
