Slowly Falling into His Love Trap-Chapter 101: Why Do You Want to Marry Me?
Listening to Evelyn Morgan’s resolute words, Caden Lockwood felt a prickling itch in his palm, almost wanting to strangle her just like that.
Yet she seemed to mean it sincerely, not just as a threat or a joke.
A woman as stubborn as her, would she really seek death if forced into a relationship?
Her pretty little face was covered in tears, long lashes adorned with drops, so vulnerable, tugging at the heartstrings and softening his resolve.
A hint of something obscure flashed in his dark eyes, his hands propped near her ears, after a thorough inspection of her, his indifferent handsome face finally showed a hint of concession.
"I’ve looked into your background." His tone was lukewarm, "After your parents passed away, you lost contact with your brother who had been missing for years. You’ve been searching for him all these years, right?"
Evelyn Morgan froze.
That year when she was six was possibly the toughest year of her life.
Once she had a happy family, but then, her parents died in a car accident, and teachers at the orphanage treated her and her brother harshly, often depriving them of food.
Her brother took her to escape, yet soon they were separated, she couldn’t find him anywhere.
Now, Caden Lockwood brings up this matter, what does he intend to do?
"If you obediently stay to be my wife, I can arrange for people to help you search for your lost brother." He slowly murmured, "The police have been searching for over a decade with little hope of success. Should I elaborate on The Lockwood Family’s capabilities?"
Evelyn Morgan blinked, admittedly, Caden Lockwood’s offer was very tempting to her.
Finding her brother had always been on her mind, she’s never truly given up.
She didn’t know where her brother was now, nor his well-being, but she swore she would find him.
They say money makes things easier, The Lockwood Family possesses such a large enterprise, if Caden Lockwood is willing to help, finding her brother would surely be only a matter of time!
But, to be his wife?
She was puzzled, with his traits, he could find any woman he wanted, why must he marry her?
"Why... do you want to marry me?" she asked softly.
He just looked at her, lips pressed into a straight line, bereft of any hint of a smile.
It seemed something was stuck deep in his throat, dry and astringent.
He didn’t usually answer every question posed to him, yet he wanted to tell her the reason.
Only, the reason so simple made it hard for him to speak.
Before he could open his mouth, she spoke first: "I can be your wife, but I have a condition."
A flash of quick irritation passed through his eyes, he glared at her, motioning her to go on.
She looked at him in surprise, puzzled as to why he was suddenly angry.
Moreover, it was pure anger directed at her.
Weren’t they discussing quite well just a moment ago?
She revealed a smile, thinking to lighten the mood, beneficial for the conversation.
But, wasn’t their current posture too ambiguous?
Why didn’t he answer the question she asked, why was he so hard to deal with?
Noticing his impatience between his brows, she hurriedly spoke: "I don’t know why you want to marry me, you might have your reasons, but surely it’s not out of affection!"
She was aware of her own worth.
Could she possibly captivate a man like him with all his advantages?
Absolutely impossible!
She paused before continuing: "I can play the role of your wife, but there cannot be any physical contact. After all, there’s no emotional connection between us! I’ll only be your nominal wife, helping you deal with outsiders until your purpose of marrying me is fulfilled, then we divorce! Is that acceptable?"
