Sleeping With The CEO-Chapter 348: Won’t Let Go
Chapter 348: Won’t Let Go
When Sebastian had pushed her over to Derek. Emily had expected them to share a brief goodbye. Then for them to take one last shot at Sebastian. Maybe throwing themselves at him in unison. That way they would die with one of them, at least having landed a punch or a kick.
But then Derek had told her his plan of jumping, and she’d said yes without thinking too hard on it. But her agreement with the crazy plan had not been for her sake. Instead, she had done it for Derek’s.
She had known that no matter what happened, Derek would not leave her behind. If she charged at Sebastian like she had wanted to do. Then Derek would have followed, dying by his uncle’s hand. And if she had headed to the car when Sebastian had been ordering them to get into it.
Then Derek would have done the same as well, drowning alongside her.
Emily could not swim, but Derek practically lived in the water.
Jumping had meant that he still had a chance, even if for her it was still just another way to die. So she had agreed and they had jumped. Her arm catching fire, as they had done so, She’d had only a moment to think, ’I’ve been shot’ before she’d pushed the thought aside. She’d had bigger problems on her hands. Falling being the primary one. The force with which they’d hit the waters had been jarring.
But even so, Emily had still kept her wits about her.
’Save Derek,’ She’d thought.
Only that plan had hit a barrier that she really should have anticipated. Derek had had no intentions of letting her drown. She’d tried to struggle when they hit the waters. To pull herself away from him, so that he had a better chance.
But he would not let go, and Emily had been forced to stop struggling. Scared that she would take him down with her if she had continued.
His lips had slotted against her own, breathing air into her. When he had pulled back, Emily had no longer felt as though her lungs were on fire.
Derek had moved her then, and Emily had tried her best to remain as still as possible. She’d read somewhere that moving about only made it harder for the rescuer.
As Derek had pulled her through the waters. Emily, unable to do anything to help, had had plenty of time to think. For one, she had finally been able to ascertain that she really had been shot. Not wanting to add to Derek’s stress anymore than she already was. She had chosen to keep that minor detail to herself.
Staying quiet as he had dragged her through the waters.
If ever there was any reason to doubt his love for her. Not that there was, but if there had ever been. Then all doubts would have been washed away. Put to rest, all thanks to Emily seeing the way that Derek was fighting to save her.
He would have had a better chance of making it without her there. But Derek never once complained.
He’d just kept on swimming, never saying a word of complaint. His hold on her unwavering,
As Derek had continued to swim, Emily had made a promise to herself.
If they got out of this alive, she was going to learn how to swim. At first her fear for the water, had been too great for her to even imagine doing such a thing. But now she had finally found something that terrified her more than being in a large body of water.
Losing Derek.
If the situation were reversed, and she had to be the one to swim them to safety. Emily would never be able to forgive herself. Especially if Derek died because she could not swim. So that would be one of the first things that she did once they made it out alive.
She was going to learn how to swim. No matter how long it took. Emily would not give up until she could manage it.
Just like Derek was being strong for her in that moment. She wanted to be strong for him too, if the situation ever arose.
When making that promise to herself. Emily had thought that her strength being used to save him would be in another situation. But as it turned out, Derek ended up needing her sooner rather than later.
When he had been pushing half of her slight frame into the crevice between the rocks, Emily had not really understood what was going on. The constant exposure to the sun. As well as her blood loss and exhaustion, having gotten to her.
But then when she had watched Derek go under and not come back up, she had finally understood. Derek had not been fighting so hard to save the both of them. He had been doing so to save Emily.
Did he really think that she would be alright with him just letting himself die? Rage had sparked something within Emily, and she had pulled strength from somewhere deep within her.
Half her body still wedged against thr rock Emily had reached into the water. Making it just in time to grab a hold of Derek’s hand, and pull him back up. It was only once he resurfaced that she realized that she had grabbed him with her bleeding right hand. Stabbing pain shot up and down the limb. The blood moving from her hand and down his arm. But Derek did not notice. His wide eyes locked on hers.
"Let go," He begged, and Emily gave him a mirthless smile. "No way," She said, baring her teeth, and tightening her grip despite the pain it caused.
"Emily we will drown together," He pleaded, like she was the one being crazy.
She felt him begin to slip, and she pulled him closer still. The rock that she was wedged into, digging into her painfully. She would definitely get bruises and scrapes. But she did not care.
"Emily. Let go, you are bleeding," He begged, finally noticing the blood.
"No," She bit out, clenching her teeth. Emily anchored herself with just her leg, the strain making the joint ache. She reached over and tore Derek’s shirt sleeve right off.
Using just her teeth and free hand, Emily tied them together using the torn sleeve. The knot the strongest one that she could make.
"Emily stop, stop, stop..." He kept saying the entire time, but she barely paid him any attention. With his added weight, the rocks were incredibly painful against her body. Each time the waves crashed against them. It made her entire frame shudder. But it was a small price to pay, because even though Emily was in a world of pain and discomfort. Derek was alive.
"I love you," She managed to whisper just as a giant wave rose up, and came down on them with all of its power. They were knocked out instantly. But by some miracle, Emily’s knot held, and both of them stayed above water...alive.
Along with the miracle of surviving the wave. There came another. This one just seconds after they had passed out.
A boat passed by. It would have kept on going. But a white haired woman by the name of Marge made them go closer to the rocks. Thinking that she had seen something, and she was proven correct.
Just like that, Derek and Emily were found by the very same woman who had found them twenty years before. freёnovelkiss-com
