Chapter 341: Genuine Remorse

Love really was a liability. That was all that Sebastian could think as he held his nephew at gunpoint. He knew his nephew’s temper. Were the situation different, Derek would not have hesitated. He would have taken his chances, and charged at Sebastian. Risking getting shot just so he could get closer, and begin fighting for his life.

Havens did not beg, and they did not bow down to anyone.

But for the sake of Emily Molson. His nephew was allowing himself to be taken easily. In fact, he did not even have eyes on the gun that Sebastian had pointed at him. Instead, he was looking directly at Emily, watching her slowly approach them.

A look in his eyes that seemed to combine every single human emotion possible. All of those feelings just directed right at Emily Molson. It was sickening to watch, and Sebastian could not take it anymore. It did not help that Emily was moving at a pace so slow, even turtles would have been faster than her.

Why on earth was she wasting so much time by moving so slow? Didn’t she know that the hardest part about dying was the waiting? Why was she prolonging what would have been a swift end?

"Give me the keys, and do not move," Sebastian ordered his nephew.Once he had the keys in hand, he wrenched the car door open and got out.

He was far too close to handling his problem. To let his guard down and leave his nephew in the car where he could switch it on andmaybe run Sebastian over. Going over to Emily at a brisk pace.

He once again grabbed her roughly by the arm and dragged her forward.

When he turned back to the car, he found his nephew no longer inside, but standing by the passenger door, his hands up.

"Get back in the car, Derek,"

It was not up for negotiation but his nephew seemed to think that it was.

"I will, uncle, but please... there is no need for you to handle her so roughly. Let me come and get her. Then we will get back into the car together. I promise," Derek said.

Sebastian tilted his head, thinking for a short while. Then he shoved Emily forward. And into his nephew’s waiting arms.

He did not have the time, nor the energy to be dragging a grown woman around. Emily Molson needed to learn her place. Luckily for him, his nephew was far more obedient. At least that was what Sebastian thought until the moment that Emily reached him.

"Get into the car,"

He ordered, but the pair of them just stared at him. Slowly moving towards the front of the car, closer to the bridge.

"I said get in the car," Sebastian repeated, but again he was ignored.

"Nephew, do not make me repeat myself,"

Clearly the two of them must have had some sort of silent conversation because what happened next was too quick for Sebastian to follow. Hand in hand, the couple then took a step back. Then they turned and started sprinting towards the railing.

Sebastian realized a split second too late what they were planning to do. "No!" He bellowed, watching them run, but it was already too late. He pulled the trigger on instinct and two gunshots went off.

The older man had no idea if his bullets hit anything, because the two of them went over the edge almost as soon as Sebastian fired, he rushed to the edge and looked down, finding nothing. There were no signs of his nephew, nor of Emily Molson.

Letting out a frustrated yell, Sebastian shot into the water. Then he stepped back, reaching into his coat and pulling out his flask of emergency whiskey.

Taking a few calming gulps, Sebastian finally felt better able to think as the whiskey burned its way down his throat.

By jumping to their deaths instead of rolling to them in the car. His nephew and Emily had really messed up his plan. There was no way that their deaths would be attributed to a car accident now. Plus, there was also a possibility that they’d survived.

Sebastian shook his head. No, he could not afford to think like that. They were dead. No one could survive a fall like that. And even if they did. The cold waters and the sharp rocks would be certain to finish the job quickly enough.

His plan could still work though, the police might rule it as a suicide. He could just see it now.

Heartbroken, former Haven Group CEO commits suicide with his girlfriend.

It made a lot of sense.

The two of them had died in the exact spot that their fathers had after all. People could just assume that they had been overwhelmed by emotion upon visiting the area. But Sebastian quickly cast that idea aside.

It would have been more believable if he had not fired at them seconds before their fall. There would be no way to pass off bodies pulled out of the water riddled with bullets as being those of people who had committed suicide. With any luck, the bodies would never be recovered.

Pulling their phones out of his pocket, Sebastian wiped them down and then threw them into the waters after their owners. Then he went over to Derek’s car and began wiping away any traces of his fingerprints. Derek was his nephew.

Sebastian could explain away why a few strands of his DNA would be found, but if his fingerprints were too numerous then that would be hard to talk his way out of. As he cleaned, Sebastian happened to look up at the rear view mirror, and his brow furrowed, his eyes widening when he realized something. Oh, he had nearly made another mistake, forgetting that the car had a camera. Reaching over he tried to remove the memory card.

But he found nothing. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

What?! Had his nephew not had one?

Impossible.

And then a thought occurred to Sebastian. That was why his nephew had gotten out of the car while he had been busy outside the vehicle. Trying to get Emily to obey, Derek had used the opportunity to take the evidence.

He had gone over the edge with it. Suddenly it became crystal clear why his nephew had felt like making conversation about the murders of his father and also his own impending demise. He had not been trying to come to grips with anything as Sebastian had thought.

Instead, that brat of a nephew had been setting up his own uncle.

He clearly had no family loyalty. Closing the car door with his elbow. Sebastian walked over to the edge of the bridge and stared at the waters. He wanted to be angry at the cunning weasel but he could not.

His nephew was dead. Most likely, if his body were to be recovered, Sebastian would be dead too. He let out a hysterical laugh, one that ended in tears. And when the fit passed, Sebastian stared at the still waters. No signs of life whatsoever. He hung his head, sorrowful. He had not been lying when he had told Derek that killing his brother had hurt, and even now, killing Derek had hurt.

But Sebastian was the CEO.

A position that he had earned, by paying for it with the blood of his brother and now with his nephew’s life. He had no regrets about it.
