Sleeping With The CEO-Chapter 320: Right To Be Wrong...sometimes
Chapter 320: Right To Be Wrong...sometimes
Cassandra Haven did not like being wrong.
Some called it a fault. A trait that had to be corrected. But as far as she was concerned, she was just being human. No one liked being wrong. Those who said they did were either very bad liars. Or they were destined to be eternal losers.
Why be wrong when you could be right? That just made no sense to Cassandra.
Right was just so much better. But for the first time in her life, Cassandra had to admit.
Being wrong sometimes was not such a bad thing.
She had been wrong about Emily Molson. The woman was not a gold digger. In fact, if anything, Emily Molson had a heart of gold for being able to forgive Cassandra for what she had done.
Cassandra had completely gotten the young woman’s character wrong, and she was glad that she had not been right. If she had been right, then Derek would have given his heart to a cold, calculating woman who was only after him for his money and power. Someone who did not care about him at all, but was only with him for selfish reasons. Only looking to feed on him like a parasite. Just to discard him when what he offered was no longer enough.
But instead her son had managed to find someone who cared not about his title, or his riches, but about him as a person. Someone who liked Derek Haven for himself, instead of for his name, and all that it could offer.
That had become as clear as day back at the manor. But now as Cassandra sat in the back seat with Emily and Derek up front on the driver and passenger seat respectively. She could fully appreciate that Emily Molson genuinely cared for her son.
Soft music played as the car moved and Cassandra, from her spot in the back, would sometimes catch her son sneaking glances at Emily before quickly turning back to focus on the road. But the moment that his eyes were off her, Emily Molson would also turn and steal a look as well.
Then she would go back to staring ahead. From time to time she reached over pretending to be readjusting Derek’s shirt, or maybe removing a speck of dust that was not there. Her son leaning lightly into every touch. It would have been obvious even to a person a mile away.
Derek and Emily were just looking for excuses to touch one another.
Young love, Cassandra thought. Not just young love either, but young love in its honeymoon phase. For many couples, this stage soon fizzled out as they got more used to one another.
But looking over at her son and Emily Molson.
Cassandra realised that she was looking at a couple that was one of those rare few, who would still feel a thrill whenever they looked at each other. Even after being together for years...and they would be together for many years to come.
That was easy to see. There was no denying it.
Their love was so strong that it almost felt like a physical thing. They were not cuddling, kissing or practically trying to climb onto each other’s laps. They were both staying on their seats and behaving themselves.
But Cassandra still felt like the third wheel on a date. They had barely acknowledged her. Their attention mostly on each other.
To love someone like that. To be so happy in their presence that it felt as though other people did not matter whenever that one particular person was close by. It was a wonderful thing.
By some miracle, her son had managed to find someone who loved him enough to make the rest of the world feel a little less important.
Cassandra could not believe that she had nearly taken that from him. How on earth had she not noticed just how far gone Derek was for Emily Molson, and how much Emily loved Derek as well.
On that day alone, Cassandra had already apologised more times than she had in the previous year. And now, she was going to break her own record by adding more apologies to the list.
She had promised that she was going to apologize to Emily’s mother, and that was exactly what she was going to do.
When she had apologized to Emily, the apology had come from the heart, and Emily Molson had been able to pick up on that. Accepting Cassandra owning up to her mistakes because she had felt the sincerity of her words.
Cassandra hoped that when she apologized to Emily’s mother, her sincerity would be clear to see even then, and that it would help.
She hoped that Emily’s mother realized that Cassandra was genuinely apologetic for what she had done. Her son’s happiness was on the line. As well as Cassandra’s relationship with people who would no doubt be her in-laws in the future.
She would have to apologize and do it right. Cassandra reminded herself of that as they pulled up to the building.
And when they finally made it to the elevator and were greeted by an out of service sign. Cassandra Haven once again reminded herself of exactly why she was doing what she was doing. In any other situation she would have taken the out of service sign, as the universe telling her to call it quits.
That the apology was not meant to be, and she would have walked away without a second thought.
"Looks like we have to take the stairs today," Emily Molson said, and Cassandra wanted to scream. She looked aeound, hoping for someone to just come and carry her away. But no such thing happened, so she just nodded. Preparing herself for the task ahead.
The day was turning out to be one full of things that Cassandra did not normally do. First the apology and now stairs.
One thing was for sure, she would not be forgetting it any time soon.
