Chapter 314: Officer

Derek woke up to the early morning sun, and the sound of birdsong coming from outside. Taking a deep breath, he let it out, smiling as he did so. He had no idea how many hours he had slept.

But judging from the way that his entire body was just thrumming with quiet contentment. It had to have been quite a number of hours. And that was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to Derek’s happiness. He was not alone. He had his Emily in his arms.

The two of them were back together, and that just made a wonderful situation even better. Amplifying his happiness to a point that Derek felt as though he would burst.

Her head pillowed on his chest, Emily began to move around, a clear indicator that she was waking up.

Derek smiled even more, gently running a hand over Emily’s side. When she finally did come awake, Emily did not say anything. But Derek knew that she was no longer sleeping because her hand began to rub over his chest.

Moving slowly until it settled right over his heart, and came to a stop.

"Good morning," She rasped, and Derek kissed the top of her head, holding her a bit tighter.

"Good morning to you too," Derek whispered, moving his own hand until it covered the one that was over his heartbeat. Derek let out a sigh.

"I have missed this," He told her, and she made a humming sound in agreement, her nose nuzzling against his skin.

For a few minutes they just lay there. Emily’s hand over his beating heart, and Derek’s hand over hers. Waking up next to Emily was one of the best things that Derek had ever experienced. And he wanted many more mornings like that.

"I love you," He said, running a thumb over the back of her hand, his smile making his cheeks hurt.

"I love you," He said again, just because he could. And it felt so good to just be able to say the words.

But a few seconds later, he was introduced to something even better. I love you, Derek Haven, Emily said. And Derek could not help the way his heart sped up. Closing his eyes, he could almost see the future. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Two point five kids with Derek’s eyes and Emily’s hair.

All of them running around, playing with each other.

I love you being the most frequently spoken phrase in the household. Said in the morning when they worke up. Told to their kids at every opportunity. And shared with one another whenver they felt like it, which would be always.

Shifting a bit, Derek pulled Emily closer and let out a sigh. After all that had gone on, he had finally managed to make things right.Emily now knew that he loved her...he had his woman back.

This time he intended to have her by his side, forever and ever. So long as he drew breath, he wanted Emily right next to him, taking those breaths with him.

He had already said, I love you, but Derek was a bit of an overachiever. And the next step, after confessing love, was marriage. He had no doubt in his mind now, that Emily would say yes.

So as he lay in bed, in the first morning after they had confessed their true feelings for one another. Derek already knew that at some point in the future, he would be holding Emily’s hand against his chest just like he was currently doing. But at that point in time. Her fingers would not be bare.

She would be wearing the proof of Derek’s love for her. Her wedding ring catching in the morning light. He looked forward to that day. But for that moment, he was content to just enjoy the morning with her close.

But it seemed that while Derek was already planning their wedding, and thinking of the children they would have and where they would live.Emily was thinking of something else entirely.

"I love you too,Derek," She began, and the words warmed him from the inside. But when she continued talking, he could not help but furrow his brow.

"Just so you know, my dream self seems to feel the same way as well,"She told him. Was she seriously going to tell him about the dream she’d had first thing in the morning? Suppressing a chuckle, he gave in to curiosity, and asked.

"What did you dream about?"

"We were at Haven Group, and I was in a skimpy outfit that I would never be caught dead in, in real life. And you, CEO Haven, were about to punish me for being a very bad PA," Derek found himself wishing he had seen dream Emily’s outfit.

"You had just promised to give me the rodgering of a lifetime when I woke up, " Derek’s length twitched in interest at that, and Emily definitely felt it seeing as her leg was thrown over his groin.

"I might no longer be the CEO, but I am certain that I can fulfill certain aspects of your dream. We can even play pretend with different roles. Imagine, me a pirate captain, and you a woman of the law, intent on capturing me...," He said, running the pads of his fingers over her side. But the good times he had in mind were cut short when Emily suddenly sat up.

"What do you mean you are no longer the CEO?!" He looked up at her worried face and smiled.

"Haven group was not the same without you. How could I stay?" He asked, and Emily’s eyes widened even more.

"Derek, you quit your job?! Who is in charge? Oh my goodness, it’s Sebastian, isn’t it? This is what everybody in town was trying to talk to me about! Derek, you can’t just quit!"

She basically threw herself off the bed and ran for her bags. Frantically opening them and pulling out clothes, and toiletries. It was eerily familiar to that first morning when they had woken up together.

"Get up, get dressed, we are going to handle things. Sebastian cannot be in charge of Haven Group!" The situation was not at all funny, but seeing staff sergeant Emily so early in the morning had Derek letting out a heartfelt laugh.

Rising from the bed, he moved towards her, and kissed her on the forehead.

"It’s alright Emily. It is already over and done with. It’s a situation for another time. But right now I feel that if we are to leave here. Then we should not be going to Haven Group headquarters, but to some place else entirely,"

"Where to?" Emily asked, some of the panic leaving her face.

"To Haven Manor, my mother owes you an apology, He said.

"Oh," Emily breathed, sounding shocked. "When will we go?" There was no time like the present. So Derek simply shrugged.

"How about we start getting ready now and head back? We should get there before lunch,"His mother was not the type who offered apologies easily. But Derek would make sure that Emily got hers.
