Sleeping With The CEO-Chapter 298: Dissapoint
Chapter 298: Dissapoint
Disappointment, one of life’s unwanted but fairly consistent aspects. Everyone had been disappointed at some point in time. In fact, many people got disappointed several times a day. Either being let down by someone who was supposed to do something for them.
Or letting themselves down in failing to accomplish a task that they had really been set on doing. That was disappointment, and if there was one group of people who really knew how it felt.
Then it was parents, who were used to being let down.
Especially by their children.
Kids messed up a lot. They got into fights. They failed subjects at school. Then even as adults, they made poor financial decisions and also horrible choices when it came to who to pick as a spouse, or a life partner.
That was how disappointing children could be. But that was just the way things were. An accepted and well-known part of the human experience.
But something that was rarely talked about was the fact that the scenario could be flipped. Children could be disappointed in their parents as well. And that was devastating.
Jane Molson was currently living through that, and she did not like it at all. If it were a roller coaster ride, then she would have demanded that they stop immediately so that she could get off.
The way that Emily was looking at her made Jane want to find a place to hide. Or maybe to start redirecting blame. ’I only sent him away to protect you. If you really wanted to talk to him, you could have just called him.’
’Why waste so much time and energy waiting for him to come to you in person,’ Jane could have said. But she knew that that would be the wrong thing to do. Matters of the heart were complicated. Things said over the phone were not the same as things said in person. And by stepping in and preventing that young man from seeing her daughter. Jane had unintentionally hurt Emily.
But even as she had managed to stop herself from voicing the question of why Emily had not called Derek. It seemed that it had been clearly written across her face, because Emily answered it either way.
"I wanted to see him in person because I wanted him to make an effort," Emily sniffled, running a hand over her face before looking at her mom again.
"I wanted to see him fight for us. To prove to me that there was something in him that cared. Because part of me wants to believe that maybe I made a mistake,"
" Maybe I misread the situation, and he would just show up, and explain everything away. That with just his word alone. All of this would go away and the two of us would be able to move on together,"
Jane stared at her daughter, eyebrows raising in disbelief.
"Emily, you cannot seriously believe that. I raised you to do better,"
"Do not let a man walk all over you like that. He is the one who messed up.You have kicked him to the curb. Do not go back for him. He is not worth it." Jane said.
"But he is, mom. He is worth everything to me,"
Love made even the most intelligent people fools. Jane was seeing it as clear as day in her daughter.
Was Emily really telling her that if she had allowed their meeting that day?
Whatever came out of Derek’s mouth, she would have believed it.
"Emily. This is just the heartache talking. You are going to heal from this. And once you do, you will find yourself a good young man who will treat you right. And not as a second option. Do you hear me?" She said, trying to infuse as much motivation into her voice, as she could. But Emily was not having it.
She shook her head, wiping away some more tears.
"You do not get it mom. There was no one else for me but him. Sure there are plenty of guys out there,"
"But he was the only person that I have ever been able to sleep with, and not have a nightmare. In fact, he’s the reason that my nightmares were practically gone for months." Emily said.
Jane heard the words, but she refused to believe them. "Emily, what nightmares are you talking about?"
She asked and her daughter, suddenly looking impossibly young, stared at her with wide eyes.
"They never went away. After dad died, the nightmares never went away. I just told you they did so that you would not have to grieve him, while worrying about me,"She said, heaving a sigh like a huge weight had finally been lifted off her shoulders.
Jane was stunned, she could not believe what she was hearing.
" Emily," She tried. But her daughter simply shook her head.
She got up and made her way to her room, the door clicking shut and locking. It took a few moments for Jane to gather herself, and then she was on her feet as well. She knocked, and knocked but Emily would not open the door.
"Emily! Emily,"Jane called.
That was one heck of a bomb to just drop on someone and walk away. What did she mean the nightmares had never stopped? Had Emily seriously been suffering on her own this entire time? Desperation driving her, Jane knocked harder, tears streaming down her face.
After one particularly hard knock, the door swung open, and Emily walked out.
The relief at seeing her was short-lived. Emily had gone in not carrying anything, now she was dragging her luggage bag behind her.
"Emily, where are you going?" Jane asked, her heart rate picking up.
Looking at her sadly, Emily gripped her bag tighter.
"I can’t stay here mom, I have to go,"
"Go where?" Jane asked, not trying to hide the desperate worry in her voice.
Emily gave her a sad look.
"For tonight, I’ll book a hotel room. After that, I’ll figure things out," If Jane had known that in sending Derek Haven away, she would be chasing Emily out as well. She never would have done it.
"Will you come back?" She asked. Her voice shaking, tears in her eyes. The seconds it took for Emily to reply felt like the longest of Jane’s life.
"Of course, I just need some time to myself," Breathing a sigh of relief. Jane wanted so badly to hug her. But the way Emily was holding herself was saying that the action would not be welcome.
So Jane just stood aside, and watched her daughter leave. Only falling to her knees and crying once the door was closed.
...What had she done?
