Chapter 51: Chapter 51: I Did Not Betray You

Serena Yardley followed Mrs. Miller back to The Sovereign Villa.

Ethan Yardley wasn’t there, so she went to her room, showered, and changed. After eating the nutritious meal Mrs. Miller had prepared for her, she just sat on the living room sofa.

Phone in hand, she repeatedly sent messages to Ethan.

But he didn’t reply, nor did he answer her calls.

Serena Yardley was heartbroken.

She wouldn’t leave the living room until Ethan returned.

At ten o’clock at night, Mrs. Miller came over to her. "Miss Serena, you just had a miscarriage. Your body is still very weak. You should go to your room and rest early."

Serena Yardley refused. "I have to wait for him to come back."

"But we don’t know if he’s coming back, Miss. He hasn’t been back these last two days."

"He’ll come back eventually," she insisted.

’She wouldn’t be able to rest or eat until she cleared things up and proved her innocence.’

’Ethan had been incredibly kind to her. How could she ever betray him? She had been overjoyed when she found out she was pregnant with his child, so how could she possibly take medicine to get rid of it?’

She couldn’t just suffer this injustice in silence.

"Mrs. Miller, you should go get some sleep. I’ll be fine just resting here."

Knowing Mrs. Miller was too old to be staying up late, Serena Yardley urged her to go rest.

Seeing that she couldn’t change her mind, Mrs. Miller had no choice but to leave her be.

Serena Yardley waited until two in the morning, when she finally heard a noise at the door.

She shot up from her seat and saw the villa’s main door swing open. Yannick Young walked in, supporting a staggering, drunken Ethan Yardley.

Serena Yardley hurried over.

Yannick Young said, "Miss Serena, the CEO drank too much. Could you please help me get him to his room to rest?"

"Okay." Seeing that Ethan was truly blackout drunk, Serena Yardley moved to help support him.

The two of them struggled, but they finally managed to get the dead-drunk Ethan Yardley into his room and onto the bed.

Yannick Young figured that taking off his clothes and shoes was not his job, so he looked at Serena Yardley and said, "Miss Serena, I’ll leave the rest to you. I’m heading out now."

Serena Yardley nodded. "Go ahead. Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Young."

"It’s all part of my job."

After Yannick Young left, Serena Yardley went to the bathroom to get a towel and wipe Ethan Yardley’s face.

She then struggled to take off his shoes and pants.

His shirt was too difficult to remove, so she left it on and pulled the blanket over him.

After that, she just sat by the bed, watching over him.

As far as Serena Yardley could remember, this was probably the first time Ethan had ever gotten drunk.

’He must be furious, or maybe he’s just that upset about the miscarriage.’

’Otherwise, why would he drink himself into this state?’

’After all, in his mind, it’s all my fault. I’m the one who betrayed him and got pregnant with another man’s child.’

’But Ethan... why won’t you listen to my explanation?’

’I, Serena Yardley, would betray the whole world before I ever betrayed you, Ethan.’

Feeling drowsy herself, Serena Yardley didn’t get into bed, instead slumping over the edge and falling asleep.

「The next day.」

When Ethan Yardley opened his eyes, his head was splitting.

He pushed himself up and immediately saw Serena Yardley slumped over the side of the bed.

His expression changed in an instant, becoming as cold and hard as ice.

He threw back the covers and got out of bed as if disgusted.

The movement stirred Serena Yardley, and she woke up in a daze.

Seeing Ethan getting out of bed to leave, she quickly sat up and called out softly, "Ethan..."

Ethan Yardley stopped, his back ramrod straight.

He didn’t turn to look at her, his cold words hitting her like a stone. "Don’t come near me. You’re filthy."

Serena Yardley’s chest tightened, the pain so sharp it took her breath away.

She scrambled to explain, "I didn’t betray you! The baby was yours! I didn’t want to get rid of the baby, that night—"

"Shut your mouth."

Ethan Yardley spun around to glare at her, his eyes bloodshot. "Come on. Follow me. I’ll show you something."

He roughly grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her toward the study.

Caught off guard, Serena Yardley nearly stumbled and fell.

But with her wrist in his grip, she had no choice but to stagger after him.

Ethan Yardley shoved Serena Yardley into the study, grabbed a stack of photos from the desk, and threw them in front of her. He snarled:

"Serena Yardley, open your eyes and take a good look! Tell me how I’ve wronged you. I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t looked into it, but you were actually reckless enough to try and elope with him."

"What a fine wife you turned out to be, the one I, Ethan Yardley, chose. To think you could play me—a man who moves mountains in the business world—in the palm of your hand. You’ve really outdone yourself."

Serena Yardley was speechless.

She lowered her head, staring at the photos scattered all over the floor.

Looking at the pictures of her and Gabriel Galloway together, she was truly at a loss for words, unable to mount a defense.

The photos showed not only her trip to Benton with Gabriel Galloway, but also him chasing after her at school, and even that time he went to the mall with her and Raina.

Some of the photos were blurry, but they looked incredibly intimate.

Serena Yardley didn’t want a lie about not knowing Gabriel Galloway to be the reason she was branded a traitor to Ethan.

She looked up at the man before her, her eyes red-rimmed. "Can you get Gabriel Galloway here to face me?"

"You still want to see him?"

Ethan Yardley flew into a rage. "Serena Yardley, what did you tell me before? Didn’t you say you didn’t know him? Then what are these?"

"I know him, but there’s nothing between us."

Serena Yardley couldn’t help but shout back, "Why can’t you just let me finish? These photos only prove that I know him, they don’t—"

"But you lied to me! And you aborted the baby. That’s a fact, isn’t it?"

Serena Yardley retorted, "I didn’t abort the baby! I was kidnapped that night! You can send your men to investigate!"

"The result of my investigation is that you took pills to abort the baby."

"I was wondering why you suddenly wouldn’t let me touch you, why you were always thinking about leaving me. Turns out it’s because you were pregnant with another man’s child."

He grabbed her by the arms, his eyes cold and bloodthirsty, his expression bordering on madness.

"I have good news for you. I had Gabriel Galloway cut into a thousand pieces. You’ll never see him again in this lifetime. Are you happy?"

Serena Yardley froze.

She stared blankly at the man before her.

Seeing his sinister, cold, and brutal expression, she was truly terrified.

She couldn’t believe what he had done to Gabriel Galloway.

’Gabriel can’t die. If he dies, who will clear my name?’

Unwilling to accept this, her eyes filled with tears as she shoved the man away and screamed:

"I’ll say it again! The baby was yours! I didn’t take any pills to get rid of it! And I did not betray you!"

"If it was my child, why didn’t you say so before? When I took you to the old family home and Grandpa and the others were pressuring you to have a baby, why didn’t you say anything then?"

"Don’t tell me you didn’t have a chance. You had plenty of chances, but you kept your mouth shut! Because it was you and Gabriel Galloway’s bastard child! How could you dare to say anything?"

For the first time, Ethan Yardley had completely lost his sanity, spitting out the ugliest words he could think of.

No one could possibly understand how he felt inside.

No one knew how much he hated, how much he hurt, how much he wanted to destroy the woman standing in front of him.

But how could he ever destroy her?

’He loved her.’

’He couldn’t bring himself to destroy her, but keeping her around was torture. So, they might as well torture each other.’

’After all, neither of them was innocent.’

Serena Yardley couldn’t explain anymore. Two streams of tears flowed from her eyes.

Her heart felt as if it were being torn apart. Filled with despair, she turned to leave.

Ethan Yardley watched her coldly. "Where are you going? To collect Gabriel Galloway’s corpse? Or are you just dying to get away from me, hoping you’ll never have to see me again for the rest of your life?"
