Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Her Baby Is Gone

Before Gabriel Galloway could even catch his breath, he was seized by Quentin Montgomery’s men.

He struggled, his face contorted with rage as he yelled at Quentin Montgomery:

"Where’s Serena? Take me to her. Quentin Montgomery, if you dare hurt her in the slightest, I’ll kill you."

Quentin Montgomery scoffed, completely unfazed. "Relax. You’re my target, not her. I won’t harm her in the slightest."

He was a man of principle, after all.

Once his objective was met, he had no reason to harm an innocent person.

’Now that Gabriel Galloway is in my hands,’ he thought, ’I might as well let him see the woman one last time.’

He motioned for his men to drag Gabriel Galloway into the warehouse.

The two bodyguards beside Serena Yardley were in the process of untying her. The moment she was freed, her body went limp, and she slid right off the chair, collapsing onto the ground.

Her face was pale, her expression a mixture of terror and despair.

Clutching her abdomen in pain, she grabbed one of the bodyguards and cried out weakly, "Take me to the hospital. I’m begging you, take me to the hospital."

Before the bodyguards could respond, Gabriel Galloway’s shout echoed from nearby.

"Serena..."

When he saw Serena Yardley on the ground surrounded by two men, Gabriel Galloway thought they were about to assault her. He broke free from the men restraining him like a madman and lunged straight for Serena.

He kicked the bodyguards aside, dropped to his knees, and rushed to embrace Serena. "Serena, are you okay?"

Serena Yardley felt like she was fading fast, her vision blurring.

She had no strength left in her body. The pain in her abdomen felt as if a knife had been stabbed into her and was being brutally twisted.

She clutched Gabriel Galloway’s hand, her voice weak and trembling. "Gabriel, take me to the hospital... save my baby."

Her voice was strained as she begged him with every last ounce of her strength.

"What did you say?"

Gabriel Galloway was stunned.

He looked down and froze in horror when he saw the large, crimson stain spreading between Serena’s legs.

Lying in his arms, Serena Yardley was in so much pain she could barely breathe. "Save... save my baby..."

Gabriel Galloway finally snapped out of it, hastily promising, "Okay, I’m taking you to the hospital right now. Serena, you’re going to be okay."

He quickly scooped her into his arms, but as he rushed to leave, he paused in front of Quentin Montgomery.

Standing to the side, Quentin Montgomery was also somewhat stunned.

He hadn’t expected her to actually be pregnant.

’So, is she having a miscarriage?’

Quentin Montgomery stood rooted to the spot, unable to process what was happening.

Gabriel Galloway glared at him, his eyes filled with a grief-stricken rage, his entire being radiating murderous intent.

"Listen here, Quentin Montgomery. If anything happens to her or the baby, I’ll make the entire Montgomery Family pay with their lives."

Knowing he couldn’t waste another second, Gabriel Galloway rushed her to the hospital.

As for Quentin Montgomery, who had been so intent on capturing Gabriel, he just stood there, frozen, making no move to stop them.

He never imagined it would lead to a loss of life.

Snapping back to reality, he grabbed the two bodyguards by their collars and yelled, "What did you do to her? Why is she miscarrying?"

The two bodyguards looked bewildered. "She kept complaining of stomach pains and said there was something wrong with the knockout drug we used on her, but we never used any kind of drug on her at all."

Quentin Montgomery was speechless.

’Someone else had drugged the woman and delivered her to him.’

’He had only tied her up to threaten Gabriel Galloway; he never intended to hurt her.’

’Which meant someone else was responsible for her miscarriage.’

To clear his name, Quentin Montgomery gave a cold command, "Find out who delivered this girl to my doorstep tonight."

"Yes, sir."

...

「The Hospital」

When Serena Yardley opened her eyes again, it was already daylight.

She lay in the hospital bed, her face deathly pale. An IV was taped to the back of her hand, and she felt incredibly weak and drained.

But her baby was the only thing on her mind.

She tried to sit up, muttering, "My baby... my baby..."

Gabriel Galloway, who had been keeping vigil by her side, saw that she was awake and quickly rose to comfort her. "Serena. Serena, you’re awake."

Serena Yardley found she still couldn’t move and could only lie there, looking at Gabriel Galloway with pleading eyes. "Is my baby okay? He’s okay, right?"

Gabriel Galloway’s face was etched with grief. He didn’t want to lie, but he couldn’t avoid the truth.

"Serena, you’re still young. You can have another baby in the future."

"What did you just say?"

Serena Yardley stared at the man by her bed, her eyes wide with disbelief. His words struck her like a bolt of lightning.

The next second!

She lay limp, her pupils dilated and her features contorted. She was so utterly shattered that she couldn’t make a sound. All she could feel was a scorching fire incinerating her from the inside out, the pain so intense it stole her breath.

Not a single sound escaped her lips, but the grief was tearing her apart from the inside.

Large, hot tears streamed from the corners of her eyes, path after path.

Watching her, his own heart aching, Gabriel Galloway confessed in a remorseful voice, "I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Serena. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have lost the baby."

"I’m so sorry..."

Serena Yardley squeezed her eyes shut, trying to force herself to calm down.

But she couldn’t.

She was in so much agony, so heartbroken.

When she opened her eyes again, she shrieked at Gabriel Galloway, her voice a heart-rending cry of madness:

"I told you to stay away from me! I told you to stop bothering me! Why didn’t you listen? They only kidnapped me because of you!"

"Gabriel, you killed my baby! You ruined me! Get out! I never want to see you again as long as I live! Get out..."

Gabriel couldn’t bear to see her so agitated right after her miscarriage, and he tried to approach her again to offer comfort.

But before he could even touch her, Serena Yardley screamed at him again, as if her life depended on it: 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Haven’t you hurt me enough?! Get out! I don’t want to see you again! Get out!"

"Okay, okay, I’ll go. Serena, please don’t get worked up. You need to rest properly now."

Genuinely afraid of upsetting Serena any further, Gabriel didn’t dare approach her again. Instead, he hurried to the doorway of her room to stand watch.

...

Ethan Yardley hadn’t returned to The Sovereign Villa last night.

He had spent the night at his office.

He did it so he wouldn’t disturb Serena, hoping to prevent her from constantly thinking about moving out and suffering on her own.

In the morning, after washing up and eating breakfast, he couldn’t resist pulling out his phone to call Mrs. Miller.

When the call connected, Ethan asked, "Is she up yet?"

Mrs. Miller replied, "Miss Serena didn’t come home last night."

"She didn’t come home?" Ethan’s brow furrowed, his expression darkening.

He had told her at the restaurant yesterday to go home.

He had stayed away precisely to give her some space and independence.

And in return, she had the audacity to disobey him and not move back in.

Hanging up, Ethan immediately dialed Serena’s number.

Serena’s phone was on the nightstand.

When she heard it ring, she summoned all her strength to lift her hand and reach for it.

When she saw the single word "Uncle" on the screen, her heart seized, and fresh tears began to slide silently from her eyes.

’She felt so miserable. She just wanted Uncle to hold her.’

The moment she swiped to answer, she finally lost control of her emotions and burst out sobbing:

"Uncle~~ I’m in so much pain~~ It hurts so much~~~"

Hearing Serena’s sobs, Ethan’s heart clenched. He immediately pressed, "What’s wrong with you? Where are you right now?"
