Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 42: He Might Really Love Her
Yannick Young never expected anyone to charge them.
And these men were fast and skilled; the three of them were no match at all.
Serena Yardley stood to the side, watching, utterly dumbfounded.
She frantically reached for her phone to call the police, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed. "Come with me."
Before Serena Yardley could even react, a man dressed in black with a hat and a mask pulled her away. He led her around the brawling men, and they quickly departed.
Serena Yardley hurried to keep up with him.
Even though he was completely covered, Serena Yardley knew it was Gabriel Galloway.
Once they were inside the elevator, she yanked her hand away from Gabriel Galloway’s. "Did you send those men to attack them?"
She didn’t know Gabriel Galloway well, but simply because he was Raina’s uncle, Serena Yardley knew he had the resources to send people like that.
Gabriel Galloway didn’t deny it. "Yes."
Serena Yardley was worried. "Don’t you know those are Ethan Yardley’s men? If you hurt them, he’ll come after you. And I’ll be caught in the middle, completely unable to clear my name."
"Don’t worry," he said. "They won’t know it was me. Can’t you see I’m wearing a mask?"
Gabriel Galloway looked completely unconcerned.
He asked Serena Yardley, "You don’t want Ethan Yardley’s men to find you, right? Why don’t you come with me? I promise Ethan Yardley will never find you."
’If Serena was willing to leave with him, he’d make sure Ethan Yardley could search high and low and never find her.’
Serena Yardley hesitated.
Her large, bright, clear eyes stared blankly at the man who stood a head taller than her.
’To be honest, she did want to leave him.’
’But she didn’t want to leave with just anyone, especially not a man who was pursuing her.’
’What would that make her?’
’It would look like she was eloping with another man.’
’She, Serena Yardley, would never do anything to betray him.’
’Much less get entangled with another man.’
’Besides, she clearly remembered the man who had appeared at the mall and warned her to stay away from Gabriel Galloway.’
Her mind suddenly clear, Serena Yardley refused him bluntly:
"Thank you for the offer, but I’m not going with you. I told you, I’m just here on a trip. Since you insist on following me, I’ll have no choice but to cut my vacation short."
’She had no other choice but to go back.’
’Gabriel’s men had already hurt Ethan’s. He must be furious.’
’She didn’t want to make things worse.’
After stepping out of the elevator, Serena Yardley went to the front desk to check out of her room, then left, dragging her suitcase behind her.
Gabriel Galloway followed her, still not ready to give up. "You’re clearly miserable living with Ethan Yardley. Why do you put yourself through that?"
"You came out here to escape him, so why not just be decisive and leave for good? I told you, I can help you. I’ll take you anywhere you want to go, and I’ll make absolutely sure he can’t find you."
’If Serena went back now, he would truly lose any chance he had.’
’He wasn’t asking for her to love him back.’
’He just couldn’t stand seeing her suffer by Ethan Yardley’s side.’
Serena Yardley stopped in her tracks. She turned, her eyes bone-chillingly cold as she stared at Gabriel Galloway.
"All you see is that I’ve had a bad couple of days. All you think is that I’m unhappy with Ethan Yardley. But do you have any idea what my life was like before I met him?"
Gabriel Galloway fell silent.
"Do you know that he was the one who gave me the name Serena Yardley? Do you know that without Ethan Yardley, there would be no me?"
"He’s my hope. He’s the light of my life."
"No matter how wronged I feel, or how much I want to leave him, I would never, ever go with you. Because no one in this world could ever take his place in my heart. Do you understand?"
’If she had no other choice, she would just have to go back.’
’Going back to him—whether he hit her or yelled at her—was still better than having Gabriel pestering her relentlessly.’
Gabriel Galloway was stunned.
Watching the girl before him, tears welling in her eyes as she angrily shouted at him, he knew he had lost all hope.
From the day he learned Serena was Ethan Yardley’s wife, he’d assumed there must have been some kind of deal between them for a man like Ethan to marry her.
Seeing how unhappy she was, he’d thought she must have been forced to marry him.
He never imagined...
’It turned out he was the real clown.’
"Gabriel, you’re a good person. You’ll meet a much better girl someday. I’m not worthy of you."
Not wanting to linger a moment longer, Serena Yardley dragged her suitcase and walked away.
Gabriel Galloway didn’t follow.
Neither of them noticed the pair of sinister, terrifying dark eyes watching them from a black sedan parked nearby.
...
Yannick Young had no desire to fight the men who had appeared out of nowhere. His mission was to take Miss Serena home.
Leaving two bodyguards to keep them occupied, Yannick Young rushed downstairs to find Serena Yardley.
Fortunately, Miss Serena hadn’t gone far.
He saw her standing at a nearby intersection, waiting for the light to change. He quickly ran over, calling out breathlessly, "Miss Serena, please stop running! Come back with me."
Serena Yardley turned to look at Yannick Young.
Guilt washed over her when she saw that his face was covered in injuries.
She nodded. "Alright, I’ll go back with you."
’She knew that as long as he didn’t want her to leave, she’d never be able to escape.’
’He was such a powerful man; finding her would be laughably easy for him.’
’She didn’t want to put up a pointless struggle, nor did she want to get more people implicated or injured on her account.’
Overjoyed, Yannick Young quickly took the suitcase from Serena Yardley’s hand and gestured. "Let’s head this way, then. My car is over there."
Serena Yardley agreed and went with Yannick Young to the airport.
The flight back to Alcrest was only two hours long.
They landed in Alcrest at ten in the morning.
Yannick Young didn’t dare delay, immediately taking Serena Yardley back to The Sovereign Villa.
Ethan Yardley hadn’t gone to work that day.
He hadn’t slept, instead spending the entire night sitting on the living room sofa, phone in hand, waiting for Yannick Young’s call.
He was fairly certain Yannick Young would bring her back,
but the thought of how she had just up and left without a shred of hesitation made his chest feel as if it were being crushed by a boulder, leaving him breathless.
He’d done a lot of thinking throughout the night.
He had also questioned his own feelings for Serena.
’As it turned out, he might actually love her.’
’He loved her to a depth he hadn’t even realized himself.’
’Otherwise, why would he have panicked the moment she left? Why would he be so afraid of never seeing her again? Why did he feel like he had lost his most prized possession?’
’And most of all, why was there an inexplicable, needle-like pain in his chest?’
Head bowed, he checked his phone over and over again.
He looked to see if Serena had texted him back.
He looked for any word from Yannick Young.
Mrs. Miller had prepared breakfast long ago. Standing nearby, she spoke timidly, "Sir, you’ve been up all night. Would you like to eat something?"
Without looking up, Ethan Yardley replied, "Not hungry."
"But..."
Before Mrs. Miller could say another word, there was a sound at the entrance.
Both she and Ethan Yardley looked up at the same time.
Yannick Young walked into the villa, suitcase in hand, with Serena Yardley right behind him.
The moment Ethan Yardley saw Serena Yardley, the heart that had been caught in his throat finally settled.
But his exceptionally handsome face instantly turned as cold as Antarctic ice, and a terrifying, overwhelming aura radiated from him.
Serena Yardley hadn’t expected him to be sitting at home, waiting for her.
’She knew she had made him furious this time.’
She didn’t beg for forgiveness. Instead, she walked right up to him and said petulantly, "Go on, kill me or torture me. I’m at your mercy."
