Chapter 530: Chapter 530: Final Dungeon - Fifth Floor (Part 2)

A roar of pain rang out as Ira fired out a rapid, drilling beam of Ether at a Basilisk, blasting it through the middle of its throat.

Blood poured out of its mouth and streamed down its body, the large Monster swaying shakily before falling over and crashing onto the ground, right as a sharp, stuttering hiss of pain echoed out as Acedia unleashed a fierce blast of lightning at another Basilisk, hitting its head.

The Monster trembled in agony as wisps of smoke billowed out the top of its head, before collapsing onto the ground, convulsing for a few seconds before going limp and slumping against the muddy dirt.

"<I think that’s the last of them in this spot, Chief, it should be safe to continue on>," Remarked Ira, after checking to make sure the one he’d attacked was dead.

"Yeah, I don’t sense anything else in the vicinity," Added Cleo with a nod.

"Alright, then, let’s keep going. Avaritia, how much further?" I inquired, as we began to move again.

"<Fairly close, I believe we have covered over two-thirds of the distance>," She responded, as she continued leading the way, her nose twitching slightly every so often.

Two-thirds already, huh? Not bad, we’re progressing pretty fast through this floor.

Even knowing that each subsequent floor is smaller than the last, I didn’t expect this. Well, Avaritia leading us with her sense of smell is definitely helping tremendously.

Knowing which direction to go and making a beeline in that direction is saving us a ton of time and energy.

We’ve had several encounters with the other Monsters on this floor, the Hypnoserpents and Basilisks, but they really haven’t slowed us down all that much.

The Apostles have managed to deal with them without needing any assistance from the rest of us, and it’s certainly helped that we haven’t run into that many Basilisks along the way.

I was prepared to face swarms of a few dozen Basilisks, but we haven’t seen groups of more than five at a time, though there have been a ton of Hypnoserpents, we’ve come across multiple groups of over a hundred.

But between the Negative Energy Generation of Luxuria and Invidia, Ira’s Ether and Acedia’s lightning, those groups were wiped out in a matter of seconds with barrages of widespread, destructive blasts.

It took us a total of just under eight hours to get through the first four floors of this Final Dungeon, and it’s now been around half an hour since we entered the fifth floor.

We’ve got a little over three and a half hours before the protective barriers around the Sanctuaries fade, we need to conquer the rest of the Dungeon within that time limit.

It’ll be tight, but with Avaritia’s sense of smell aiding our rate of progress, we should be able to just about make it in time.

Well, I shouldn’t get too far ahead of myself. It won’t be nearly that easy, we still have three more Sentinels to defeat, and all our efforts will be for naught if we fail to kill Vaszel.

So, for right now, I’ll just focus on clearing this floor and moving up to the next one, and then reassess.

Anyway, as we continued proceeding through the floor, encountering a few more groups of Monsters, Avaritia suddenly came to a halt, her ears perking up as she sniffed the air.

"<We are close, Master, very close>."

"I don’t sense anything yet, I-...hm? Oh, guess I spoke too soon," Remarked Cleo, as she stepped forward.

"Then, we’re just about a hundred meters away from the next Sentinel. Who’s in play for this one? Is it just me, Aarav and you, Kai?" Inquired Jaden, as he glanced around at the group.

"Yeah. Well, technically, the Aces are eligible too," I replied, before glancing back at the three of them with a wry smile.

"Don’t worry, we’ll retreat into the shadows the instant the pillars expand," Responded Petrus sheepishly.

"Let’s keep moving. While the toxicity in this floor isn’t as bad as the one before, it’s still pretty strong," Spoke up Aarav.

Yeah, the Aces in particular are looking a bit sluggish.

As we continued heading towards the next Sentinel, the ring of the pillars soon came into sight, surrounding a small, murky lake.

Ripples spread out across the surface as we steadily drew closer, the top of a reptilian head emerging and narrowing its eyes at us.

All I need is a glimpse, let’s have a look, Appraisal:

The Monster rose out of the water and slithered out as the ring of pillars rapidly expanded, a wide patch of muddy dirt appearing around the lake, Petrus swiftly dropping into the shadows with Brid and Jax, right before Jaden, Aarav and I got teleported in front of three of the pillars, the glowing roulette beginning.

I narrowed my gaze at the Monster as she eyed us with feral, ravenous gleam in her eyes, dribbles of saliva trickling down the corners of her jaws as the pillars began glowing one by one, the glow traveling across the pillars faster and faster as I kept a close, wary eye on the Monster...she looks like she’s itching to pounce at the first opportunity.

A snake-like Monster, her torso was humanoid, she had arms with razor-sharp claws on her hands, while her lower half was a lot more snake-like.

She had the head of a snake, resembling that of a king cobra, with the neck flap things on the sides of its neck.

Her eyes were a bright, sharp green with an ominous glow, she had long, narrow fangs, and a row of curved, sharp spikes down the middle of her back.

I let out a slow exhale as the glowing roulette landed on me, steeling myself before getting teleported into the space within the ring of pillars.

"Alright, looks like it’s finally my tu-...," I began, before trailing off as she rapidly slithered towards me with immense speed.

I quickly shuffled across to my left as she closed in and snapped her jaws at my chest, her fangs tearing off a few shreds of skin off my right bicep, before I spun around with a grimace as she shot past me, a malicious, hissing chuckle ringing out as she glanced back with a gleam in her eyes...
