Chapter 825: 822: The First Night (2)- Bonus

Corey knew that Kieran, Zeke, and the others were extremely shocked by the power of his attack, and to avoid any suspicion or annoying situation, he did the best thing possible.

He acted exhausted.

He acted like the skill he had just unleashed was his most powerful skill, and with the way he was breathing and sweating, the members of the Thirteenth Dawn believed this to be true.

Even though a part of their minds were a little bit suspicious and wary of him, they dismissed it instantly.

Not out of foolishness.

But out of necessity.

If they decided to believe that the attack Corey had just unleashed was not his strongest skill or one of his strongest skills, then they would start questioning their entire lives.

The thought of Corey having a regular skill that was more powerful than that of their captain who was a peak Tier 4, was terrifying.

Absolutely terrifying.

They could not... No... They did not want to think of such a thing.

So when they saw Corey’s exhausted expression, they were visibly relieved.

"Don’t use a skill like that in such a situation next time. Use it when we’re in dire need."

Kieran patted Corey’s shoulder before walking to the front so as to confront the incoming horde.

Corey looked at him.

"You’re seriously a newbie. Who uses their strongest skill so quickly? This is why I said you should not drag us down. Can you continue fighting in your current situation?"

Zeke’s mocking voice drifted into Corey’s ears, and he turned to his right.

Zeke stood a few feet away from him, firing rounds upon rounds of bullets on the undead.

Corey looked at him before shifting his gaze to his guns and then the undead that were shot by him.

Although the damage Zeke did on the horde could not be compared to that of Kieran, Myra, and the others, Corey could see why Zeke was allowed into a group of Tier 4s as a mere Tier 3.

Kieran, Myra, and Yara were outside the clocktower, battling the horde with their weapons of steel.

As for him, Zeke, Rhys, and Aelric?

They were inside the tower, and Zeke’s precision, vision, and decision making was extremely good.

So good to the point that Kieran, Myra, and Yara were able to fight without having to worry so much about their backs.

Whenever an undead attempted to attack any one of them, Zeke would interfere.

Shooting a bullet into the skull of the undead which would then burst into flames, turning it into ash.

’His attacks are able to one shot the Tier 3 undeads. But he needs more than one bullet to kill a Tier 4 undead.’

’He knows this, so what he does is to disrupt any Tier 4 that attempts to kill Kieran, Myra, and Yara.’

’His foresight is good... Better than average.’

"Like what you see?"

Zeke’s voice drifted into his ears, and Corey looked at him.

Although Corey could see the mockery in his smile, his eyes said otherwise.

He could see the wariness and solemnity in his gaze.

’He’s wary of me. Most likely because he believes that the skill I unleashed is my most powerful skill and it’s more powerful than his ultimate skill.’

’Hmm... How troublesome.’

Corey said nothing, and chose to watch the battle with a calm gaze while ’recuperating.’

Time went on, and some moments later, Yara suddenly appeared on the top of the tower.

Corey frowned when he saw her.

’She’s exhausted.’

Corey could see her panting, and she was not the only one.

Myra and Kieran were the same.

Even Zeke and Aelric were sweating profusely as their mana levels ran dangerously low.

’They’re all exhausted.’ Corey thought as he observed each of them. ’Well, it can’t be blamed. They’ve been fighting for almost an hour.’

’And they’ve been fighting over a hundred Tier 4s and Tier 3s.’

’Luckily for them, the undead are not so powerful. Apart from their regenerative abilities and their corruptive death energy, they’re not so difficult to deal with.’

’But their numbers are the problem.’

Yara suddenly dropped from the tower ledge, blades glinting as she vanished into a shadow.

She reappeared to slice through two Tier 4 creatures at once.

But for every monster cut down, more came. Almost like there was an infinite number of undead in the city.

And then...

"ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!"

Rhys suddenly screamed again.

One of the Tier 4 undead had broken through the wall behind him, and with a loud and disgusting giggle, it lunged directly at him.

Its razor-like claws pierced his side, ripping through his armor like butter.

Blood sprayed.

Myra was there in an instant.

Her spear burned with a bright orange flame, and like Zeus holding his bolt of lightning, Myra impaled the undead’s skull with a single, precise thrust.

It howled, but not in pain.

No.

It giggled.

Then it fell apart as a charred corpse.

Corey grabbed Rhys and lifted him. "Stay conscious. Make sure to keep breathing and circulate your mana to fight off the death energy. Don’t let it corrode your insides."

"I can’t see! I can’t see... I can’t... see." Rhys’ voice became softer and his breaths became shallow.

Corey frowned. ’He’s about to lose consciousness.’

Myra suddenly grabbed him by the collar of his cloth, "Focus on my voice damn it. You’re not dead yet, you son of a bitch!"

But she received no response from Rhys.

"He’s not dead. Only unconscious." Corey said while removing her hands from Rhys’ collar.

"He needs to be treated." Corey said, and just as he said this, Zeke’s voice rang out.

"WE CAN’T STAY HERE!"

Kieran appeared in the tower after sending an arc of lightning at the horde. He stood beside Myra and looked at Rhys.

He frowned.

"The horde shows no sign of stopping, and we don’t know how long the night is going to be. We need to move."

Nobody disagreed, and Yara suddenly appeared beside Kieran.

Kieran looked at Myra.

"Myra," he said coldly, "Incinerate the path."

"On it."

Her spear lit up as she approached the horde.

She stabbed forward, and a fiery explosion blew open a path through the horde, incinerating dozens of monsters.

"Rhys! Move!"

"I can’t see!"

"Then trust us!" Kieran grabbed him, dragging him onto his feet.

The group broke formation, and ran.

They through the fire, fog, and the giggling undead.

They crashed into an alley, turned a corner, fucked under a collapsed wall, but the undead followed no matter where they went to.

They ran.

They crawled like insects along the walls.

They lurked in hiding, some on rooftops, jumping down at the group. Waiting to catch any one of them.

And they did all this while smiling and giggling.

The group suddenly turned but a group of twelve Tier 4 undeads stood in their path.

Yara suddenly disappeared, and then she appeared from the shadows, her figure flickering behind a group of monsters.

Shadow Kill Art: Vein Sever

As she said muttered these words, her blade slashed clean thought the back of four undeads.

But it got stuck in the neck of the fifth, and the creature turned around, smiling with a mouthful of black teeth

It grabbed her shoulder, and just as it was about to bite her her shoulder off, she vanished in the blink of an eye.

Corey suddenly appeared in front of the undead and cut its head off with his dagger that radiated intense red hot flames.

Myra sliced off the head of three undeads, and Zeke fired numerous bullets into the head of the last one, making sure it had no head or neck, and then it combusted into flames.

They continued running, and a few minutes later, Corey looked up.

His eyes glinted. ’I hope I’m right.’

"There! Let’s enter that house!"

Corey stopped and pointed at a house.

At first, everybody wanted to curse out loud and complain, but they they saw that Corey was not pointing at the house itself but at a symbol- A symbol of an inverted triangle drawn with what seemed like an old white chalk.

They didn’t hesitate.

They burst into the house, slamming the door shut behind them with extremely anxious expressions.

And then silence.

Outside, the creatures stopped, and no single creature burst into the house.
