The price of the Codex reached an astronomical price of 70 Immortal Shards.

The expressions of everybody that knew the worth of an Immortal Shard and how absurd it was to pay 70 Immortal Shards for the Codex, was one of disbelief and shock as they stared at the representatives of the two Empires.

Those watching the bidding war were not the only ones with unique expressions. The representatives of the two Empires had ugly expressions as the bid kept on increasing.

Immortal Shards were extremely rare and spending over 70 Immortal Shard on an unknown Living Grimoire that was created by nine Tier 9s was over the top for them.

At most, the Codex should be bought for 50 Immortal Shards.

The representatives knew this, but due to their pride, reputation, and several other reasons, they could not back down.

If the representatives of the Supreme God Empire lost the bidding war against the Mortal Empire, it would be an immense slap in their face after their most powerful Chosen lost to the Chosen of the Mortal Empire.

Losing the Battle of Chosens was one thing, but if they lost the bidding war for the Codex, it would signify that their purchasing power was not as much

Due to their pride and reputation, they could not back down. Everybody knew this, most especially the representatives of the Mortal Empire.

From what Anon could hear with his Ears of Omniscience, the representatives of the Supreme God Empire were absolutely enraged because they felt that the Mortal Empire was purposefully raising the bid so that when the bid becomes absolutely absurd, the Mortal Empire would back out from auction, thereby making the Supreme God Empire to spend more than they wished to.

Anon and the others also felt like this was the plan of the Mortal Empire, and the Outsiders were worried that a war between the two great Empires was going to occur in the near future if things continued in this manner.

The Mortal Empire and the Supreme God Empire were never enemies and were always neutral towards one another, however, after the Battle of Chosens, they were definitely on bad terms.

A war between two Empires would shake the entire universe, and although Corey had no idea how dangerous and unimaginable a war between two Empires was, but every single Outsider that knew of the significance of a war between two great Empires like the Supreme God Empire and the Mortal Empire were anxious and extremely worried.

"Does the Mortal Empire want to become enemies with the Supreme God Empire?"

"What are they trying to achieve by doing this?"

"Even if they make the Supreme God Empire to spend so much money or lose face, they stand to gain nothing. It doesn’t help them in any way."

"Is there going to be another Great War?"

"I doubt it. Other Empires would most likely not want another Great War. It would destroy the balance of our Universe."

"Even if the other Empires don’t interfere, I don’t think the Overseers would allow another Great War to occur."

"But what if they do?"

"That..."

Anon furrowed his brows as he heard the conversation between three Outsiders. He had no idea which organizations they belonged to, but their conversation intrigued him a lot.

Especially the word, Overseer.

This was the first time he was hearing the word, ’Overseer’. Even though he had the entire books of the Outer and Inner Library of the City of Sin, he had never seen the word ’Overseer’ in any of the books he read.

In fact, he was currently going through every single book he recorded from the libraries but the word ’Overseer’ never showed up in any of the books.

Anon was extremely curious about what the Overseer was and he was also curious about the balance of their Universe.

’Could the Overseers be the Supremes?’

’I mean... It wouldn’t be surprising if they’re the Overseers since our Universe is owned by the Supreme Ancestor and the Supreme Ancestor is also the creator of the Universal System.’

’I need more information.’

The Stars of Consciousness in his mind flared brightly as he pushed the hypothesis and thoughts he had to his Stars of Consciousness.

Anon shifted his gaze to the room of the Mortal Empire. Unlike what the others thought, he could hear what was going on in the room of the Mortal Empire.

The elders of the Mortal Empire wished to back off from bidding for the Codex, however, Darius Flint, the Chosen that won the tournament of the Battle of Chosens, was the problem.

He desired to have the Codex no matter what, and despite the pleas and attempts of the other Chosens and Elders to give up on the Codex, Darius Flint was extremely adamant on getting it no matter what.

Even if it meant becoming enemies with the Supreme God Empire.

Anon was extremely baffled by the behaviour of Darius Flint. He was certain that the Supreme God Empire would not back down, and if they did, the Mortal Empire would have to pay an astronomical price for the Codex which in his opinion, would most likely not be worth it.

’Unless Darius Flint is extremely favoured by the Emperor or Empress or the leaders of the Mortal Empire, I don’t think he would be able to get away with spending so much on the Codex... Even though it’s an artifact that was created by nine Tier 9s.’

’The fact that Calista and the organization behind her is allowing her to auction such a powerful artifact shows that there is a problem with the artifact.’

’Majority of the people here knows this, so why is Darius Flint so adamant on buying the Codex?’

’Could it be that the Codex is extremely important to him? And that maybe he knows more about the Codex compared to the others?’

’Hmmm... I wonder what it is.’

Anon could see the expressions of rage on the faces of the Elders of the Supreme God Empire, and just as he expected, the Supreme God Empire could no longer take it when the Mortal Empire increased the price of the Codex to 90 Immortal Shards.

"WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE?! DO YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO BECOME OUR ENEMIES?!"

An Elder of the Supreme God Empire with the aura of a peak Tier 6 shouted with his aura bearing down on the entire Auction Hall.

Anon’s expression changed as he felt the aura of the elder of the Supreme God Empire. It was extremely powerful and Corey was not sure he would be able to defeat the elder even with his current strength.

Just as he was about to look at Calista for her reaction, a calm voice echoed in the auction hall.

"If you don’t have the resources then stop barking like a dog."

"..." Everybody.

’Damn.’ Anon.
