Chapter 223: 223. Bad News

Back at the dungeon, Jake woke up pretty late and ate the monster meat that his servants had prepared.

The table was full of dishes and surrounded by several chairs on which the women from last night sat. Today, everyone’s focus was on Yunna who sat subserviently beside Jake.

Thinking about the things that she did to her master last night made her ears beet red. However, a sense of happiness also rested within her heart.

Yunna didn’t know how but she had finally reached the 3rd Circle after having sex with her master. Also, her Desire Demon bloodline had reached the 3rd stage, granting her two more unique abilities.

As she thanked the women who congratulated her, Yunna noticed someone was giving her a side-eye.

"Lena, what happened?"

"N-Nothing..." the dungeon fairy replied suspiciously and floated away.

"Did I do something to her?"

"Forget it, she’ll come around."

While eating, Jake watched with an amused smile on his face but didn’t care to explain. Once he was finished, he contacted Ragan who had left Cheshire by now.

The old fox had successfully sold all his slaves to the nobles in Ardin and dutifully made reports of their usual activity.

Jake passed down his orders to the slaves after hearing Ragan’s reports. According to the intel gathered, most of the nobles in Ardin and Karsuda seemed to dislike the royalty. This was especially so for the oldest families who dated hundreds of years back.

For them, being ruled by the dynasty of Philips was not desirable. However, the royals were simply too powerful and had too much support. That’s why nobody had attempted a coup.

Also, any noble family that became too influential would face extreme suppression and scrutiny. Facing such difficulties, how could anyone even think to rebel?

"So this is the case..." Jake finally had an idea of the bigger picture.

At first, he thought that he would need to lead the rebellion against the royalty through a high-ranking noble like Marquis Jones.

But from what Ragan had told him, an uprising nobleman wouldn’t get much support since the others didn’t have confidence.

For the royals to fall, a large chaos had to happen; a chaos in which repressed nobles would think of taking advantage. If the royalty showed signs of weakness, this delicate balance in politics would simply break.

Once Jake finished chatting with the foxkin, he contacted Xenan’s proxy who was at a town some miles south of Cheshire. He learned that the slave trader had already acquainted himself with Captain Pristina.

"Things are going good..." Jake thought, teleporting to the 15th floor.

With the help of orcs, ogres, goblins and other humanoid monsters, the construction of the town was going smoothly. By now, the roads were already paved and the building of important structures had begun.

Meeting with Ruxa who was barking orders at the goblins who laid the pipelines, Jake found that she was really fit for this job.

He decided to provide her with some helpers for logistics before going to the 25th floor where Isa stayed.

However, just as he reached the floor, a voice he hadn’t heard in a long while rang in his ears.

"Master, I can finally contact you!"

It was Leonard, the first noble that Jake corrupted after reincarnating.

"Hmm, I was on a trip for the past few months. Speak, what happened?" Jake replied, pinching his fingers and burning the blood that leaked.

"Bad news, Prince Splennar has been stripped of his title and locked away in the palace!"

"What?" Jake stopped and narrowed his eyes.

"It happened two months ago. I don’t know about the details but it has something to do with Commander Bors," Panic was apparent in Leo Erswen’s voice.

"Apparently, the brothers had a fight, and the king summoned Splennar and all the nobles in the middle of the night. He announced that his son wasn’t a Prince anymore and all his bestowed privileges and properties will be revoked!"

Hearing that, Jake was confused. The only plausible reason why this could happen was if Bors found he’d corrupted Splennar.

However, that would require actively examining the prince’s soul, which wasn’t something a regular 5th Circler could do.

Only a qualified mage would be able to do this. Jake was sure that even the court mages at the palace weren’t qualified.

’A Bishop could easily find out, though...’ He realized.

If Bors did employ a bishop to examine the purity of Splennar’s soul, that meant this guy somehow became suspicious of his own nephew.

’Sigh, that good for nothing fool...’ Jake shook his head. Now, the enemy had learned a secret.

"And what about Ivan?" He asked Leo who replied a few seconds later. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Nothing has happened to the mage yet, but the situation is dire. I had a talk with him after the incident. He said that the king kept inviting him to the church..."

’They really have caught on!’ Jake’s eyes glowed red.

This was bound to happen but he didn’t think it would happen this early.

"Tell the court mage to keep refusing the invites. They’re looking for an opportunity to trap him. Perhaps they aren’t sure of their suspicions yet."

"As you wish." Leo firmly nodded.

As Jake was about to cut the call, the count suddenly spoke again.

"Oh right, I almost forgot! Something big happened today."

"Hmm?" Jake didn’t have a good feeling about this.

"The missing Archbishop has returned from the Holy Theocracy..."

Hearing that, his eyes widened and a sense of urgency overwhelmed his heart.

Ever since Jake reincarnated, he’d always kept himself in Grimbow Kingdom. As a result, he didn’t really face much difficulties in his expansion. The main reason for this was the absence of the Archbishop.

Without the head of the central diocese present, the other bishops weren’t really united, allowing him to contend with them one by one.

However, now that Joseph Lightgold had returned, he would obviously realize what was happening in this kingdom.

If Jake still wanted to be steps ahead of his enemies, he couldn’t dilly-dally anymore!
