Chapter 784: Chapter 782: UNREQUITED LOVE SQUASHED BEFORE IT SPROUTED

Meanwhile, in Frin City, sometime after 6 pm, Ruby parked her car in an empty slot at a parking building closer to where she was having an appointment.

After putting the car into parking, she took in a deep breath before taking out a small mirror from her handbag.

"I need to look my best!" she cheered herself as she started checking her appearance.

Like her sister, she barley wore make up but time calls for it, she didn’t mind padding some powder on. She made sure that the powder was sticking onto the face pretty well before applying a bit of lipstick to her lips. Once that was done, she smacked her lips in satisfaction before putting everything into her makeup bag and stashed it into the handbag.

Ruby looked around inside the car, checking to see if she hadn’t missed anything. After making sure that everything was on point, she alighted from the car and locked her car.

After that, she started walking towards the exit with a smile on her face, thinking about that night’s appointment.

She had never thought that she would be so courageous to meet the person she was going to meet. Especially with how sullen she was the last time they met.

"Oh love, I whispered through my tears,

Do you recall the days when hopes were clear?"

A familiar ringing tone sounded and Ruby couldn’t help but sing along briefly as she took out her phone from the handbag.

That was a verse from the song Diamond sang with Z when she was in Gesalsi. There was something about that song that just make her like it.

Moreover, rather than supporting other artists’ songs, she would rather pick her own sister.

Ruby took out the phone and swiped the screen to answer before putting it on her ear to answer, "Hey!"

[Um. Where are you?]

Ruby looked around as she checked the road before crossing the road.

"Just across the mall. I will be there in like five!"

[Oh~ I will be waiting for you then!]

Ruby smiled when she heard that and grunted a response.

After making the call, she put the phone back into the handbag before crossing the road after making sure that there were no cars on the road.

Ruby crossed the road and walked towards the small shopping mall with a smile on her face, humming another Diamond’s song.

"Oh, thank you for believing,

For every tear and every dream.

You’re the heartbeat in my song,

With you, I know where I belong."

This time humming Shining Star, the song Diamond sang for the JEWELs.

It wasn’t long before she spotted the restaurant where she was going and, upon seeing it, she increased her pace. Before she knew it, she was pushing the door of the restaurant and entering inside.

"Ruby! Over here!" and a familiar voice called out to her, making her look in that direction.

Ruby smiled faintly when she saw the person she was dining with, and her heart couldn’t help but feel a pang. She was filled with complicated emotions at the moment.

She waved towards the other and started walking towards him, without bothering looking at the few diners who were in the restaurant.

Sean looked at the young lady who had captured her heart and yet toll with it as if it was a toy.

Was this his retribution?

Honestly, he didn’t know what to think but as long as she sees him c9ntinuously without being direct with her rejection, which she hadn’t done yet, he wasn’t going to give up.

He stood to his feet and pulled the chair for Ruby as soon as she got closer.

"Hey!" she greeted him smilingly as she stepped in front of the chair.

"Hey, hey!" he returned the greeting as he helped her to sit down like the gentleman he was.

Once she was seated, he returned to his seat and the two of them were looking at each other. This was one of the rare moments where he was alone by her and he cherished every single moment.

"I hope that you traveled safely all the way here!" he said, starting a conversation.

Ruby chuckled as she put her handbag aside and responded, "There wasn’t much traffic. So, it was better!"

"That’s good. I am glad to hear that."

"I hope that you didn’t wait for a long time."

"No, it wasn’t that long. Besides, if I don’t wait for you. Who else should I wait for?" he asked teasingly, which made Ruby’s face heat up.

"You ...." She was speechless because of his bold wording. How could he say that?

Nonetheless, all the walls that were up couldn’t help but melt a bit, reducing the awkwardness between the two.

After Sean teased Ruby for a while, he called for the menu and Ruby calmed down finally. The two of them made their orders and while they waited for the food, they chatted.

"So, how is school? Are you coping?"

"It’s great. I love it!" she sincerely responded.

How could she not love it when she could understand nearly everything that she was taught? Moreover, her sister invested so much in her. She gave her a bottle of brain-nourishing pills. If she couldn’t make something of her studies after that, then wouldn’t she let Diamond down?

Moreover, she had always loved studying from a young age. Perhaps driven by the fact that she wanted to do better than Diamond. However, in the process, books became something that she loves. So school wasn’t a chore for her.

"It’s good that you love it. It’s not everyone that does."

"Hehe, then what about you? Do you like studying?" Ruby asked curiously, a glint of teasing in her eyes.

Sean sighed wryly when he heard that. He couldn’t help but remember what it was like when he was studying and shook his head.

"It wasn’t my favorite, but let’s just say I managed to get through!"

Ruby laughed heartily when she heard that.

"Haha, since you didn’t like it. Then what are you doing now?" she asked, curiosity laced in her tone.

Sean shrugged his shoulders with a faint chuckle. "I am currently working at the family company. A team leader of some sort," his answer a bit vague but providing enough points for Ruby to work on.

Ruby nodded when she heard that. She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of families Sean and his group came from.

"That’s good. I also work in my sister’s place when it’s holidays!" she shared with Sean, recalling how the foundation was like another home for her.

When Sean heard that, his curiosity was piqued. He couldn’t help but ask, "Your sister is involved in many industries?"

Ruby scratched her head when she heard that, thinking hard about what else her sister did. After tallying the businesses, she currently knew, she nodded in response without exposing what exactly. After all, she hadn’t forgotten that Diamond didn’t like being too showy when it came to business.

Sean felt it a pity seeing how Ruby didn’t elaborate further, but thankfully that was enough for him to learn that Diamond was dabbling in a lot. He just needed to look into it deeply.

The two of them chatted a bit more before their food was served.

While eating, Ruby found it awkward to eat without saying a single word, so she mustered her courage to ask about something that had been eating her for a very long time.

"Um ... Sean," she softly called to him as she played with the fork, looking very distracted.

Sean froze when he heard that and saw her small actions. He couldn’t help but worry about what she wanted to ask. However, he couldn’t refuse her. He could only grit and clench the fist beneath the table, answering with a smile on his face, "Go ahead and ask. I will do my best to answer you!" sounding very generous.

Ruby sighed with relief when she heard that and felt guilty for what she was about to do. But if she didn’t do it, she was truly afraid that moving on would truly be difficult. She just wanted some closure, even if that means hurting Sean.

"Um, about Waylon. Um .... How long has he been with his .... um .... He has been dating for how long?" with some struggle, she succeeded in asking.

Sean sighed dejectedly inwardly when he heard that.

’It’s about him again!’ at times like these, he truly disliked Waylon, though he knew that his friend did nothing wrong.

"This month ... um they will be celebrating their third anniversary this month," he answered truthfully while gauging her reaction and it didn’t look well.

Sean felt pained when he saw her like that, but this time, in order to get rid of her obsession with Waylon, he had no choice but to be cruel to her.

"He was in his second year and she was in her freshman year. She confessed to him, and it took a while before he agreed to her confession. After they got together, they have been together ever since."
