Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 413: So It Was the Girlfriend Who Came
Yu Xia glared at him irritably and handed him the warm ginger jujube soup she brought.
"It’s cold here, have some."
Xie Qingci pulled a stool to sit in front of her, looked at the thermos emitting steam, and smiled gently.
"Did you make this?"
"Who else would be so kind?" She pulled out a box of cookies, "My sister-in-law taught me how to make them, you’re the first to try, make sure to appreciate it."
The cookies had nut bits on them. Xie Qingci ate one, looked up at her again: "It’s not particularly sweet."
Yu Xia closed the lid: "Some people don’t really like overly sweet things."
Xie Qingci chuckled and, after swallowing a few bites, stood up and said: "Someone just invited the whole crew for some local specialties, I’ll bring you some to try."
Yu Xia waited, meanwhile chatting with his assistant and others who gathered around, learning about Xie Qingci’s routine on set.
From "Xie Qingci’s acting is pretty good" to "He goes straight back to rest after filming," the one who promised to fetch something for her to taste hadn’t returned yet.
Just as she was about to inquire, laughter suddenly erupted from that temporary shed.
"You came in just to find that thing? You’re so interesting, haha, I’ll find it for you, I just bought a bag."
"Hey, do you want this? It’s the only portion, also a local specialty. I like sweet things, this isn’t sweet, you can have it."
The voice sounded pleasant, the tone confident and open, creating an immediate sense of goodwill.
Yu Xia glanced slightly at Xie Qingci’s assistant, who hesitated for a moment and quickly understood her meaning, whispering to her: "It’s the second female lead, Rong Tan. She just joined the crew this morning and brought food for everyone."
She nodded, watching as Xie Qingci walked out holding two items, one of them an open can, probably accepted out of courtesy despite refusing.
Though Xie Qingci didn’t appear particularly warm, his actions remained polite, not wanting to throw a tantrum casually.
Just as he came out, a girl chased after him, asking: "Did you taste it? Is it too sweet? If so, give it back to me, I heard you don’t like sweet things."
Xie Qingci returned the small can to her: "I haven’t tried it yet, but you should keep it for yourself."
Rong Tan was about to wave it off when she spotted Yu Xia sitting calmly on a deck chair, legs crossed, watching them. She teased Xie Qingci with an "Oh".
"Ah, your girlfriend’s here, no wonder."
No wonder what? No wonder he didn’t share a can of snacks with you?
The rest of the crew were still working but had been casting sidelong glances their way, eager for gossip.
Earlier, people said Yu Xia was strict with Xie Qingci, and now this carefree, seemingly unaware woman was trying to challenge her position; it was quite thrilling.
Everyone awaited Yu Xia’s reaction.
Only Xie Qingci remained unaffected, as if nothing had happened, returning to sit beside Yu Xia with the items.
Yu Xia kept her gaze fixed on Rong Tan, looking thoughtful.
Rong Tan confidently presented a gift bag, saying it was a welcome gift for everyone, all food items.
Seeing Yu Xia not taking it, she glanced at Xie Qingci, assumed she understood, and laughed:
"Don’t misunderstand, I didn’t know you were here, so I just chatted with him when handing over the items. Since we’re acting opposite each other, I thought I’d interact more so filming would be easier."
Entering someone else’s set, adopting an accusatory stance can easily seem excessive, especially when the actress maintains composure and merely exchanged a few more words with Xie Qingci. If Yu Xia were to dwell on it, she’d be unreasonable.
Xie Qingci frowned, about to speak when Yu Xia suddenly exclaimed as if realizing:
"Oh, no wonder you seem familiar! I remember now, didn’t Miss Rong work for Lin Yu before debuting?"
Lin Yu Group belongs to Xi Heng.
Rong Tan nodded: "Yes, I was one of Mr. Xi’s office assistants back then, and we even met. I thought you wouldn’t remember as it’s been years."
Years ago, Yu Xia met Rong Tan at Lin Yu Group? Isn’t that when Yu Xia was dating Xi Heng?
Unexpectedly, Xi Heng got brought up.
Everyone widened their eyes and discreetly looked at Xie Qingci.
Xie Qingci’s expression remained unchanged, only his gaze towards Rong Tan became more distant than before.
Rong Tan didn’t mind, smilingly focusing on Yu Xia.
Yu Xia also smiled, but hers was rather formal, changing her posture, her legs crossed, even sitting appeared she was overlooking others.
"Indeed, it’s been years. I wouldn’t normally remember, but you messed up the data while delivering a document, almost causing Lin Yu a loss of tens of millions with a client, and got scolded out by Xi Heng. Such a dramatic incident is rare, so I remember it quite clearly."
Rong Tan’s expression shifted: "..."
Before she could say anything else, Yu Xia continued: "Didn’t expect you’d debut as an actress. Thank you for the welcome gift, but it wouldn’t be fair to take yours for free, how about this—"
She turned to others and said: "I’ll treat everyone to hot pot, okay? It’s cold here, hot pot will be great for dinner. I’ll order now, and it’ll be delivered directly when ready. Extras for cast members too."
The director led the applause: "Then we’ll trouble you with the expense."
Everyone cheered, indifferent to Rong Tan’s reaction.
Xie Qingci opened a small snack to feed Yu Xia.
She opened her mouth to eat, glancing sidelong at him: "I’ll deal with you later."
Xie Qingci looked innocently at her: "What did I do wrong?"
"No wrongdoing, but possessing beauty is a crime, understand?"
"Oh, I’m to blame for looking good," Xie Qingci sighed.
Yu Xia stared at him speechless, then suddenly burst out laughing.
"Have some humility."
Then, setting aside the previous issue, she asked about his filming routine.
"Is it tiring? Any challenging scenes?"
Xie Qingci shook his head: "Not really. The assistant director mentioned you once collaborated with them and did a scene rolling in mud? It got deleted later?"
She casually responded: "Yes, that’s normal. The scenes you labor over might end up cut entirely. But the outcome isn’t the only important thing; doing well in the process will always have its moments."
"Do you find it exhausting?" he asked softly.
Yu Xia smiled: "No job is without hardships. Wasn’t applying to Hai City University exhausting? Studying nonstop under pressure. Wasn’t learning singing and dancing during the contest exhausting? Wei Yaoyao even said you practiced so much you sweated rivers."
Xie Qingci smirked: "In truth, applying for university wasn’t really exhausting for me; looking forward to some people was more tiring. Using my brain isn’t hard, using physical effort is a bit tough."
"...Xie Qingci, stop showing off!"
