"What are these stumps doing here?"

The others asked this, but I knew that these were anything but normal stumps.

After all, I could sense the divine energy that was coming from these stumps that showed that they formed the pillar that we had been looking for.

The only thing was that there was nothing around this vine.

It seemed like there was nothing special about this vine that seemed to block the lightning from reaching it, but it seemed like there were no lightning bolts that fell on this thing.

After all, there were no traces of it being burnt at all.

Even if wood didn’t conduct electricity, it wasn’t as if a stump would be completely unharmed if a bolt of lightning were to fall on it.

The moment that a stump was hit by a bolt of lightning, the heat that it generated would be more than enough to burn parts of the stump. So with all the time that it had been here, it should have showed signs of being burnt by the lightning falling around it.

It wasn’t as if the stump had anything to stop the lightning from hitting it and lightning bolts did fall randomly from time to time.

So it really didn’t seem to make sense at all that this stump had no marks at all.

"If it was the divine energy that was protecting it, then this thing should have run out of power a long time ago..."

The more that I looked at this stump on the ground, the more that I felt all of this was strange.

Still, that wasn’t the main concern right now.

After all, this stump was what we were looking for which meant that there was only one thing that was left for me to do.

I went over to the stump, but I found that there were things that came at me the moment that I stepped forward. If it wasn’t for my fast reactions, then I would have been hit by all of these lightning bolts.

It was strange that these lightning bolts were even coming at me in the first place.

After all, I had already filled this entire place with many different lightning rods.

I didn’t just use a single lightning rod, I made six lightning rods and I placed them all around the area that the stump was in. I was using this as a kind of array that would block the bolts of lighting falling down from hitting us.

But these bolts of lightning completely bypassed the lightning rods that had been put up and came right at me. It was almost as if they had some kind of grudge against me with how they came right at me.

"It’s almost as if there’s something directing it..."

After blocking the lightning bolts with the barrier I put up, I looked at the stump in front of me.

That was because I could sense that it had released divine energy when the lightning bolts came down.

That would certainly explain why the stump had never been struck by lightning before.

If it was able to do something like this, then it certainly would be safe in this place.

Only how was it able to do this?

It really didn’t seem to make sense that the stump was able to do something like this since it was supposed to be a part of an array. At the same time, I knew that the gods didn’t plan anything for these arrays in the first place.

Or else that other array wouldn’t have been soaked in lava like that.

So the only thing that made sense was that there was something here that had influenced this stump into gaining this power.

Though the main thing was...

"How am I going to activate this thing if all that it does is shoot lightning at anyone that gets close?"

This really didn’t seem like an easy solution to solve until I remembered something.

This is something that was created with divine energy in the first place.

While I had no idea what level of sentience it had to have gained the ability to protect itself like this, I did know that it would at least recognize divine energy as something familiar.

"In that case, this really is the only option that I have."

After saying this, I approached the stump once more.

Only this time, I created a domain around me with the orb while raising my hand to show the Mark of God. I did all that I could to show whatever was behind the stump that I was someone familiar with this divine energy.

As expected, there were no lightning bolts that came down this time.

But whether that was because it recognized me as something that came from the same source or if it was just caught off guard by the sudden appearance of divine energy, I didn’t know.

What I did know was that I was able to use this to approach the stump and get right up in front of it.

Once I was in front of the stump, there was a part of me that was at a loss as to what to do next. After all, I had no idea what kind of reaction the stump would have after I injected divine energy into it.

Would it still perform the function that it was created for or would it do something else?

There was no telling what this stump would do now...

But regardless, it wasn’t as if there was anything else that could be done now.

The only other thing that I could do at this point was turn around and leave, but that didn’t seem right.

So I reached out towards the stump with the hand with the Mark of God on it.

Once I made contact with the stump, I did the same thing as before where I injected my divine energy in.

It didn’t take long for the stump to suddenly light up.
