Shattering Humanity-Chapter 89: Uncharacteristic Attitude

A young Katsu is fishing with his father at a lake. The sun is setting perfectly behind the horizon of the large lake.

Katsu: "Dad, you’ve said fighting is wrong, but why did you sign up for the military in the first place?"

Katsu’s father stares out at the Sun and reels in his line.

Katsu’s Father: "Well buddy, before you were born, your mother was the most important thing in existence to me. I was young and thought leaving your mother alone at home was saving her, but instead, I ended up going to other countries and following orders I was against, just to end up accidentally hurting women who had men who had love for them. Just as much as I love you mother."

A young Katsu thinks carefully about his next question.

Katsu: "So if someone was threatening to kill me or Mom, what would you do?"

Katsu’s father turns with a look that scares the young child to look away.

[Current Day]

Katsu and Saku are sleeping alone in their separate beds in their dark quiet room. Daisuki has gotten the birthday wake up callers out in the brightly lit hallway, with a wooden floor and clean, painted walls.

The disappointed group has balloons, a cake, and homemade cards. Shelly and Itsuka are especially upset with the Head of Sanpaku.

Shelly: "You told us 7 a.m. Now you’re saying give them an extra hour?"

Itsuka: "What, you guys are too irresponsible to get to bed at a decent time?"

Daisuki is barely running on fumes as well. Bags under his eyes, he’s pale, and leaning on the door to stay up.

Daisuki: "I’ll explain in an hour, please, for the love of God."

The group looks at him concerned.

Kawaii: "Uncle Skii, are you ok?"

Daisuki: "I will in an hour, Honeypie."

He slides down the wall next to the door and nods off to sleep on the floor. Scylia pulls a key out of her pocket and unlocks the door to Daisuki’s side of the connected rooms.

Scylia: "Char, can you help him to bed, please?"

Charybdis walks over and Dom is close behind, each putting an arm of the 30 year old man on a shoulder. As they head into the room, Sol and Taylor stay out of the room. She points at the giant man and smiles.

Sol: "I’ll bring this guy to grab some breakfast for the next hour so there will still be cake when those 3 wake up. Come on Big Guy!"

She hops onto his back and holds on as TayTay turns the corner at the end of the hall.

The rest of Takamagahara and the little girl riding the German Shepherd, converge into Daisuki’s room and lay him on the bed.

He softly mutters something in his sleep.

Daisuki: "...Anjells."

Char chuckles at his ’Uncle’.

Char: "Angels? Haha, what kind of dreams are you havin’ Uncle Mina?"

Dom: "Must not be a bad one if he’s dreamin’ of beautiful angels, haha."

Aiden looks at Shelly, it’s obvious he’s uneasy about something.

Aiden: "So all three of our ’leaders’ are decommissioned right now? Who’s in charge if someone is hostile towards Sanpaku?"

Dom steps up and wipes his nose with a cocky grin.

Dom: "Did someone say-"

Everyone: "No!"

Dom, comically leaves the room in a depressed state, holding back embarrassment tears.

Dom: "These feelings. They can only be suppressed with food."

He shuts the door behind him. Char shrugs and walks towards the door.

Char: "I’ll go with the poor kid. It’s good to go over our perimeter plan for the day anyway. I’m off.I love you, Sis."

Scylia: "I love you too, little brother."

All who are left awake in the room are Shelly, Itsuka, Aiden, Scylia, Friend, and Lil Miss Kawaii.

Scylia is sitting on the bed, petting the sleeping Daisuki’s hair. She looks up and sees Shelly and Itsuka staring at the closed door that connects the two rooms.

Scylia: "I’m sure if you are really quiet, you won’t wake them. As a woman, I know how hard, just a single night away from the one you love can be."

The group of five quietly opens the door connecting the two rooms. Shelly slightly turns the dimming light knob, illuminating the room with barely enough light to tell the two young sleeping men apart as they are breathing in unison.

Saku on the right bed and Katsu on the left. Shelly and Aiden stand on the side of Katsu’s bed, while Itsuka, Kawaii, and Friend get into Saku’s bed with him.

Itsuka lays down facing Saku, their matching broken heart tattoos exposed. She smiles and blushes at him sleeping calmly. Kawaii hugs him from his back and Friend curls up into the back of his master’s bent knees. The delinquent is now covered in warmth and love for him.

Shelly is blushing and is once again, watching her purpose, sleep safely. She then gets a worried look and feels his forehead, her broken heart on the back of her thumb is seen.

Shelly: "Oh my God! Katsu’s burning up! He has a fever!"

Itsuka feels Saku’s forehead and also gets an alarmed expression.

Itsuka: "So does Saku!"

Scylia, who could hear from the other side runs into the room to help.

Scylia: "Is everything ok?"

Aiden opens the door and barks medical commands for the women.

Aiden: "Itsuka and Scylia! You two go get washcloths and two separate containers of ice cold water. Shelly! Forget the cake! Go get these two something with carbohydrates, sugar, and protein. I will grab extra clothes for each of them, in case there are any ’accidents’. Kawaii and Friend..."

The worried girl and 3 year old pup give individual ’Yips’ in response.

Aiden: "Watch over your big brothers okay? Make sure your cute faces are the first things they see."

The door closes and there’s silence in the dim lit room.

Katsu is having his usual nightmare again, but his dream self is sceptical of whether or not the last dream actually did change. He is consciously focused on the horrifying scene of his parents being lifted above the giant Iceman’s open mouth, but Katsu isn’t yelling for it to stop. The giant Iceman, doesn’t stop.

It eats his mother and father, tossing their arms with entwined ring hands. His face is now like an intimidating stare down of the giant alien. The alien then points somewhere and Katsu’s vision follows the imaginary line connecting the monster’s finger to what it wants him to look at.

Once his eyes reach what the Iceman wanted to point out, the soft and friendly eyes of the young inspiring Katsu, the friendly eyes everyone has known or found comfort in, are now rage filled. Full to the brim with hate, just like his father’s that had scared him.

He’s almost unrecognizable.

[Takamagahara Captains Room]

The little girl on ’Big Brother Watch’, swings her feet in a chair, then she gets a tingle up her back and she hops off the chair. She turns to the dog with her.

Kawaii: "I’m going to the potty, Mr. Fwend. You keep watching Big Brudders."

Friend: "RrufrrruFf."

She waddles to the bathroom, humming, the little girl opens the door.

As soon as the bathroom door *clicks* closed, Katsu and Saku wake up at the same time. In the blink of an eye, they have both gotten up and have their right fist thrown, now on the bed Saku was resting on. The left hand of the young men, catching the others attacking fist.

They have their Anjell Eyes, popped off in their 2nd stage. Both have a pitch black aura with a white streak. Friend has his ears back, whimpering.

Saku has a stern stone faced expression, trying to analyze Katsu’s uncharacteristic attitude. There is a flushing noise and cute humming. Knowing Kawaii is around, he calmly talks to the fellow Takamagahara Division Leader.

Saku: "What the hell is up with you, Katsu? That intensity, is- is that from your ’Hero switch’, or is that from your Anjell Eye?"

Katsu is staring at Saku with the most hatred that one human can possibly burn into someone. He ignores Saku’s questions and his nose twitches as Saku ’hears’ Katsu’s voice but Katsu’s teeth are clenched in anger.

Katsu’s Voice: "Saku. I don’t know ’when’ but I’ll know ’when it happens’, and I swear,

On everything I live for.

You better remember this.
