Shattering Humanity-Chapter 55: Broken Promise

As all the memories of the clones rush into the minds of their originals, Charybdis wakes up from his sister’s sneak attack, rubbing the back of his head.

Charybdis(annoyed): "What the hell Scylia?!"

Scylia: "Char, seriously, shut it. One of their clones died for the first time in front of them all in a very unfortunate way. Give em a damn minute. (looks at Daisuki) We’ll be going inside Master Daisuki! I’m sorry my ability has caused you all this mental trauma."

Daisuki: "No, Scylia, it’s not your fault in the least bit. You helped keep Sanpaku safe from Nephilim. For that, I give you my deepest gratitude. Just let us talk some stuff out as a Squad, you can stay if you want since Katsu has knighted you in, but Char..."

Char is already walking towards the door, waving off the idea, while his sister stays in the spot she’s standing in.

Charybdis: "Nah, I’ve been through that clone death memory shit too. Death comes in infinite ways, I would rather not listen to someone else’s horrible dying experience."

The blue haired guard opens the door and enters the sanctuary, closing the door behind him. There is silence for a second between the 7 Squad members. Katsu and Shelly are still looking at each other with tears in their eyes. Katsu’s left eye tears falling as snowflakes inside the tunnel.

Saku: "OK. What? In the absolute. FUCK. Was that all about? Our clones knew they were clones, right? Mine wasn’t the only one? Why did you two feel you just haaad to display the most over-dramatic scene ever? Not gunna lie, it creeps me out a little."

Itsuka: "Saku, it doesn’t matter if it’s a clone or not! Did you, or did you not see your best friend die in front of you?"

Saku: "No. First, he ain’t my best friend, Friend is my best friend. Second, my clone knew it wasn’t the real dumbass... (looks over at Katsu) Even though he would probably get killed by friendly-fire that he jumped in front of anyway."

Daisuki: "Then how about taking it from Shelly’s perspective? Think about how you’d feel, knowing your own blade killed Friends clone? Yea, it’s only a clone, but it’s the ’sight’ of your most valuable treasure in pain from your own hands, if it wasn’t for Scylia, that would be the actual case with Shelly and Katsu. Even if we knew it wasn’t the real Katsu, it’s the principle of seeing someone you care for, lifeless."

Saku looks off to the side at Friend hunting down a flying bug.

Daisuki: "What they just experienced is something no two people with their type of relationship should go through. Trying to live a life together after one knows the feeling of dying and the other living with the memory of not only killing someone, but killing the man she loves, by accident. What Shelly went through, watching her closest living companion no longer moving is how I felt seeing my best friend drop with the top half of his head missing and jaw still trying to talk to me. I don’t mean any maliciousness at all when I say this Saku, but unless your eye ability turns out to be able to extend the lifespan of living organisms, you’ll know the sight of losing your most cherished treasure one day and wish it was just a clone. But unless you take Friends life, you’ll never know exactly how Shelly felt today. Where you put Friend on your list of treasures, is exactly where Shelly has Katsu. Sometimes all humans need is a visual to change the way they see the world and the people around them."

They all watch as Shelly helps Katsu up. She looks at his chest with the tears still flowing. Katsu shaking from knowing how it feels to die, puts his hand over his heart.

Katsu: "Shelly, don’t blame yourself for what happened. I would gladly die an infinite amount of times, than see you get hurt. You’re my most important treasure I-"

Shelly(hysterically crying): "Don’t say stuff like that!*sob* Then what’s going to happen to me when you’re gone Katsu!?!*sob* I need to die before you so I don’t have to remember any of the days without you!*sob* Katsu pleeasee....*sob* don’t die again, you promised mehehee you wouldn’t! WAHAAAHHAAHHH!"

Everyone else watches as the 18 year old woman, labeled as a "terrorist", specifically "The Beast of Beasts" is truly vulnerable and heart broken as true love works through its deepest fear. Katsu puts Shelly’s head in his chest and pets the back of her head while she cries.

Daisuki: "In every respectable human, the fear of one’s own self dying, is replaced by the fear of having a life, other than their own, being torn away by death. Leaving them to live alone and depressed for the rest of their days. Some humans can’t find something or someone to ’replace’ a lost treasure as valuable as the life of a true lover."

Itsuka looks at Saku and blushes.

Itsuka: "But just because happiness ends in one place doesn’t mean it ends everywhere!"

Saku: "It’s because that treasure was their last ’hope’. Most healthy humans are born crying from the coldness of the world and also being forced out of their original source of comfort, the human brain instinctively knows ’hope’ immediately out of their mother."

Katsu and Shelly begin to calm down. Shelly looks up as Katsu wipes her face dry with his sweatshirt sleeve, even under her nose.

Saku: "’Hope’ convinces us to search for the ecstasy of happiness that our bodies were created with. People without ’hope’ see death not as the rebirth of their happiness, but simply the end of their unhappiness."

Itsuka turns with a shrug.

Itsuka: "Guess the clone had enough moxie to kiss a corpse but the original is still too intimated to kiss his living body."

Daisuki: "Give em time... So when are you two gunna go steady? Surely you two don’t wanna look as obv-"

Itsuka EyeEngages the mentor and Saku is pissed. Scylia giggles behind her hand.

Itsuka: "I’ll keep his head still. Just get an extra one for me too."

Saku: "Gotchya."

Daisuki: "Wait, hold on I was just joking. Hehe. Guys come on. Scylia?"

Scylia: "As the newest member of ’The Squad’ I don’t really think it’s my position to interfere."

Suddenly Charybdis opens the door.

Charybdis: "Aye Uncle Mina! We just got two people who walked in from ’Hell’ with those HFF watches and AIG! I think you should come ask some questions for the safety of Sanpaku!"

Everyone looks at each other and they all hurry to the door.
