Seven Sins System-Chapter 441. Uh-oh!
Seven Sins System Chapter 441. Uh-oh!
‘Uh-oh!’ I thought.
I could guess what Red would do next. She was one of my best soldiers, the strongest vampire in my army, thanks to the power I had bestowed upon her through my blood. Her loyalty and ferocity were unmatched, and I knew that once she decided on a course of action, she wouldn’t hesitate.
I was right.
Dark red energy began to swirl around Red's body, her Mana reacting to her intense emotions. The air in the room grew heavy, charged with her power.
Dozens of tendrils formed from the swirling energy, snaking out from her in a rapid, coordinated attack aimed directly at Puriel.
Red moved with the lethal grace of a predator, her control over her power precise and deadly. The tendrils shot towards Puriel like arrows, their tips glowing with an ominous red light. Each one carried the potential to wound or worse, and I knew that Puriel had mere seconds to react.
Rather than waiting for Puriel to react, my instincts kicked in. I reached out and grabbed Puriel's wrist, pulling her back just as the red tendrils shot forward.
My feet moved in a fluid motion, stepping forward to place myself between them. I raised my hand, summoning my power with a muttered command.
‘Barrier,’ I thought, channeling my dark energy into a protective shield.
[A barrier has formed!]
An invisible wall of dark energy sprang into existence.
The tendrils of red energy collided with the barrier, the force of their impact reverberating through the room.
For a moment, the air was filled with the crackling sound of clashing energies.
I couldn’t believe what I was doing. Here I was, protecting Puriel, a goddess, from my own subordinate. The irony was not lost on me, and yet, in that moment, it felt like the only choice.
Before the red tendrils could press against the barrier again, they stopped, hovering just inches away.
Red's eyes locked onto mine, confusion and hurt etched into her features. She was frowning, her normally fierce expression softened by the uncertainty that now clouded her gaze.
“My Lord…” she called out, her voice a mix of bewilderment and sorrow.
She took a hesitant step forward, her tendrils still hovering. “Why are you protecting her? What happened to you? She is an enemy, right?”
Red’s loyalty was unwavering, but this was beyond her understanding. I could see the sadness in her eyes, the pain of betrayal that she didn’t fully comprehend.
"Red," I called her name, my voice firm and authoritative. My face turned serious, and my posture shifted into one of regal command, reminiscent of how I carried myself while leading my soldiers into battle. The transformation was instinctual.
"It's a long story. There's been a change, and for the time being, the goddesses aren't our enemies," I stated with unwavering resolve.
Red's eyes widened in shock and confusion.
"For the time being?" Puriel echoed, her voice carrying a mixture of surprise and curiosity. Her eyes searched my face for answers.
I turned to Puriel, meeting her gaze head-on. "Yes, for the time being. Because I don't know how long this agreement can hold the war between us. Time and accidents might change things. Nobody knows about the future," I stated, my voice tinged with the harsh truth.
I had no intention of sugarcoating the reality of our situation. Alliances in our world were fragile, and trust was a rare commodity.
Puriel didn't respond immediately. She simply looked down, her gaze fixed on my hand, which was still holding her wrist.
Instinctively, I released my grip, my subconscious reminding me of her disdain for my kind. Yet, as I let go, a flicker of disappointment crossed her face, vanishing as quickly as it had appeared.
“I see… It’s because of the agreement,” Red spoke again, her voice softening with a mix of understanding and relief. She sounded as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
I turned to her, nodding. “Yes, because of the agreement.”
Red retracted her tendrils of energy back into herself. Her face softened into a smile, and without another word, she ran toward me. Before I could fully process the shift, she threw herself into my arms, hugging me tightly as if she never wanted to let go.
“You are back, My Lord. I missed you so much,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
The strength of her embrace, the warmth of her body pressed against mine, it all felt so achingly familiar. I took a deep breath, wrapping my arms around her in return. Her body was indeed much fuller, and more mature than before, but in my eyes, she was still the teenage vampire I had found dying three hundred years ago.
Back then, she had been frail and frightened, a creature on the brink of death. I had saved her, given her my blood, and watched her transform into a formidable warrior. Yet, she had always retained that vulnerability with me. I remembered the countless nights she would crawl into my lap, unable to sleep. I had always let her.
‘Wait… so she was a child when I took her?’ The thought struck me suddenly.
“I always waited for you and hoped that you would return to this realm,” Red continued, her voice choking with emotion. “I tried to summon you hundreds of times, but you never answered me.”
“If I had answered your summons, it would have been more difficult for you to let me go,” I stated, my voice gentle but firm.
Red’s eyes widened slightly.
“After all... I never had the intention to return to this realm.”
As those words left my mouth, my gaze shifted to Puriel. She stood a few steps away, her posture rigid and her eyes pointedly looking elsewhere. Her expression was a mask of restrained annoyance, her jaw tight. 'Is she jealous?'
