Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Uncle Marik (I)

Leah’s rage exploded when Ruela called her a heartless bitch. All this time, she never thought of herself as anything but good.

Why? Because what Leah wanted was some power that she had never had in her life. She grew up as an orphan and a maid for Ruela, so what was wrong with her vying for something bigger in this world than just becoming a mere servant for the rest of her life?!

"You will pay for what you said just now, you bitch!" Leah raised the knife, intending to stab Ruela in the neck and finish the job.

Since Ruela ruined her chance to become a queen, it was only right for Leah to take her life as repayment, right?

However, right when the knife was about to touch Ruela’s neck, a vine suddenly burst out from the ground and hit Leah’s wrist, knocking the knife away in the process.

"Ah!" Leah winced in pain.

Ruela struggled to break away from Leah once she knew that the latter didn’t hold any knife anymore.

"Ugh, let me go, you toad-sounding bitch!" Leah yelled, but Ruela got an adrenaline rush thinking that Leah might harm Mistress Sisi and Jojo if she was killed.

Thus, all she could do was stop Leah somehow.

"Ugh—assassins, help me here!" Leah yelled, and a few assassins tried to reach Leah after killing a few beastmen guards.

During their scuffle, Sisi grabbed Garou using a vine, wrapping it around the panther’s waist, and tossed him towards Ruela instead.

"Wha—!" Garou stabilized himself. He didn’t know what Mistress Sisi just did, but he had to return to the fight against that damned tiger despite suffering injury!

"Garou, stay right there and protect your Mistress! You must make sure she’s alive, or I’ll never forgive you!" Sisi commanded.

"But, Mistress—!"

"No buts! Just do as I say!" Sisi commanded while her eyes were still focusing on the big tiger in front of her.

Garou gritted his teeth. It was impossible to defy Mistress Sisi’s order, and Ruela did need his help.

Thus, after making a quick but difficult decision, Garou decided to finish this battle quickly so he could return to Mistress Sisi’s side and protect her.

Sisi looked at her surroundings. The beastmen guards were either dead or busy trying to fight the assassins that Marik brought.

Now, there was nobody between Sisi and Marik.

"Your enemy is me, Marik," Sisi said boldly despite the danger. "You shouldn’t have brought so many people if all you want is me."

"Don’t call yourself an enemy, Sisi. I’ve never seen you as an enemy," Marik said as he shifted back to his beastman form; now his tiger ears and tail finally appeared. He walked towards Sisi and slapped away all the branches and vines that Sisi used to try and stop him.

"To me, you are a daydream that I want to turn into a reality. I want us to go together to Jing Forest and start a new life," Marik confided. "Jing Forest is peaceful and far from that wretched Dusk Star. It is the best place for us to start a family as well."

Marik finally stopped right in front of Sisi. At this point, Sisi had used up almost all of her mental strength, making it difficult for her to summon another vine underground.

She ought to call upon Grandma Tree’s power once the situation was truly dire, but she wanted to see what Marik would do next, because obviously she knew that he wouldn’t kill her after his confession back then.

"So, you’re creating a war between the Beast Kingdom and human kingdoms, killing so many people in the process, all because you want to bring me to Jing Forest?" Sisi asked.

"And kill that cursed wolf too, of course," Marik said grimly. "We could’ve had a beautiful life in Jing Forest, perhaps with a litter of whelps who’d call you Mommy. But it’s all ruined because of these cursed beings."

Marik slowly turned his head towards Jojo, who had been in Sisi’s arms the whole time, hugging her neck tightly while seeing all the commotion around them.

He was still oblivious about everything, since nobody really told him anything. But even a boy like Jojo knew this "Uncle Marik" hated him.

"The Dusk Star can track the Dawn Star’s location easily because they are bound by fate. So, if I want to take you with me, I’ll have to separate you from him," Marik said.

"Hmph, I will never leave Jojo alone, you know that, right?"

"Doesn’t matter. I’ll force you into submission anyway. Just like how you finally submitted to Kael even though he hurt you before, you will eventually submit to me as time goes on," Marik claimed.

"Do you not realize the ring on my finger?" Sisi smiled at him. "Kael and I are fated by the Moon Goddess, Marik. Even if you try to kidnap me and bring me to Jing Forest, my heart will forever be his until my last breath."

"We’ll see about that once I separate you from the Dusk and Dawn Star," Marik scoffed before grabbing Jojo’s shoulder. "Boy, it is time for you to leave her. She’s not your mother to begin with."

Marik was kind enough not to yank Jojo away from Sisi. He thought that scaring Jojo was enough to make him let go of his arms around her neck.

However, Jojo stared at him unblinkingly and tilted his head. "You... you are really my Uncle, right?"

"And what makes you think that I am not?" Marik asked.

"Sisi said that you’re not Uncle Marik, but a monster who’s using his face," Jojo said. "But you have his scent and his eyes. So you must be him, right?"

"Hah, Sisi is lying to you," Marik grinned, wanting to see Jojo’s reaction once he knew the truth. "I am, in fact, your Uncle. Uncle Marik. The one who protected you and taught you how to hunt, Jojo."

"..." Jojo continued staring at Marik with his pair of golden eyes. "Uncle, why do you want to hurt us?"
