Lately, the biggest hot topic in Oasis City has been this upcoming No-Rules Race.

Walk down any main street and you’ll see plenty of people talking about it.

Originally, Oasis City planned to set this race track on the city wall.

First, the wall is one of Oasis’s showcase projects, and the road on top of it is wide enough.

After all, the city wall was personally constructed by superhumans of the Architect Sequence, built to defend against certain physical-attack Anomalies.

So Oasis City’s wall is a benchmark project.

Now that it’s the apocalypse, nobody skimped on materials.

Besides, the wall’s construction reportedly included a lot of talismans arranged into a formation.

Because of the wall’s construction, some buildings inside Oasis City lagged behind.

Second, the Concealment Barrier that covers the whole Oasis conveniently encloses the city wall, so the only place suitable for holding the race was the flat road on top of the wall.

But the number of participants this time was simply overwhelming. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

At least eighty percent of Oasis City’s superhumans planned to join the race.

If the rule hadn’t been strict about only superhumans being allowed to enter, many ordinary people would probably have wanted to drive in as well.

So Oasis City decided to set the race course outside the city, circling the entire Oasis.

With Chu Che’s involvement, the Concealment Barrier that covered Oasis City expanded significantly.

It was enough to wrap around Oasis City and form a complete racetrack.

To build the track for this race, many ordinary people went outside Oasis City to help construct it.

That eased the pressure on the Outer City District.

You have to understand, many survivors without work had made Outer City District’s security a huge problem.

Incidents occurred almost daily.

If not for the suppression by superhumans, the Outer City would probably have rebelled long ago.

Originally, a nearby flower sea outside Oasis City lost a lot of area to the racetrack.

Standing on the wall, Chu Che could clearly see a gaunt middle-aged man lift his hand toward a direction.

A strange energy poured out, and the earth not far off churned as an asphalt road formed.

People around them gasped in amazement.

An Architect isn’t merely someone who controls building materials to construct houses.

As their sequence improves, Architect superhumans can use Supernatural Power to alter the structure of materials, converting them into whatever construction material they desire.

Like this asphalt racetrack.

Before the apocalypse, building such a stretch of asphalt would have taken a long time.

Now, in the hands of an Architect Sequence superhuman, it was a matter of ten or twenty minutes.

Of course, this track still wasn’t ideal compared to professional tracks.

But achieving this much was already impressive.

Remember, this is the apocalypse.

Soon a few survivors stepped forward to drive wooden stakes into the ground along the new road and create simple guardrails.

Given current conditions, that was the best they could do.

Overall, there were about three or four Architect Sequence superhumans like this in Oasis City; aside from Deputy City Lord Zhou Jueshen, who is Sequence 3, the rest were Sequence 1 or Sequence 2.

With these Architects involved, it should be done in a few days.

Chu Che and his group walked along the wall, watching the construction site not far away.

“This No-Rules Race is fully backed by City Lord Cha, and it’s brought some much-needed vitality to Oasis!”

An old man looked toward the site, his eyes gleaming.

Yeah, since the apocalypse began, everyone had been so suppressed.

Although this event seemed frivolous, the city’s atmosphere clearly improved.

In the apocalypse, besides grain, tobacco and alcohol were hard currency that sold well.

Tobacco and alcohol could let people momentarily forget the pain of the end times, so many were willing to trade food for them.

Just like this race.

Everyone knew the competition wouldn’t help the apocalypse, but many still wanted to be part of it.

At least a festival-like atmosphere helped people forget the grim reality for a while.

“Yeah, I heard there will even be a singer performing at the opening ceremony!”

“A singer?”

“Yes, we haven’t heard music in so long.”

People nodded, their expressions visibly lighter.

Chu Che stayed silent among the crowd.

“By the way, who do you think can win?”

“Who else? Definitely Deputy City Lord Ding Shen. His sequence is the most unique and strongest I’ve seen. Ordinary people are no match for him.”

“The Son of the Blood Moon is indeed strong! But…”

When someone mentioned Ding Shen’s sequence, their faces showed fear and caution.

At some point Oasis had begun to have rumors about Deputy City Lord Ding Shen’s sequence.

Even though people had gotten used to the blood moon in the sky and had learned to accept it, that didn’t mean the blood moon was good.

When the apocalypse first began, many curious people went mad staring at that moon; they fell into darkness and never returned.

So to many, the blood moon represented evil.

Now someone’s sequence was literally called Son of the Blood Moon.

It was hard not to let bad associations slip into people’s minds.

“Shut up… don’t believe those nonsense rumors!”

A vigilant old man quickly cut off the talk and scanned the surroundings warily.

Others merely looked somewhat uncomfortable, but no one continued the Blood Moon topic.

Chu Che pretended he hadn’t heard.

He did, however, think of Chen Ye.

That guy had been practicing under the influence of the blood moon before.

And lately he’d seemed off, like he’d advanced to Sequence 3…

“Hmm… Deputy City Lord Ding Shen is powerful, but this race’s format isn’t what we’re used to. There are no rules.”

“No rules mean any means can be used. It’ll be hard to predict who will win!”

“Hahaha… anyway, I support Deputy City Lord Ding Shen.”

“I heard the champion’s reward is a lot—two hundred kilograms of rice and flour, plus a lot of meat.”

“And it’s not expired!”

“So much… jeez… I haven’t had dumplings in ages.”

“Not only that, I heard City Lord Cha plans to award some Ideal Grain Seeds as prizes.”

Two hundred kilograms!

Chu Che’s eyes shone with greedy green light.

And it wasn’t expired!

And Ideal Grain Seeds!

God.

Wasn’t this prize pool a little too generous?

At the mention of dumplings, Chu Che’s mouth watered.

He was willing to risk his dignity to win; he had to get that championship.

People argued back and forth about the race.

The earlier discussion about Deputy City Lord Ding Shen seemed to have never happened.

Oasis City’s first No-Rules Race was called “no rules,” but that wasn’t entirely accurate.

There were some basic rules.

One of the stricter rules was that the race had to stay within the track.

This rule probably existed to prevent cheaters from taking dangerous shortcuts.

From the past few days of construction, the track looked wide.

And everyone entering were superhumans, whose reflexes and agility far exceeded ordinary people.

Besides, the other judges didn’t seem to care much about that rule.

They likely wouldn’t strictly enforce it.

Chu Che realized that if he wanted to pull corrupt tricks in broad daylight, the pressure would be high.

There were practically no restrictions on the vehicles.

Even if you rode a 28-inch Bicycle, as long as you were a superhuman and had a vehicle, you could race.

Using Supernatural Power or Wonders during the race was also unrestricted.

You could outrun everyone.

You could beat everyone as well.

As long as you didn’t kill someone, injuring or disabling them wasn’t considered a violation.

Chu Che had long heard these rules, but listening to the excited chatter now, he could already imagine how brutal the race would be.

That day would definitely be the cruelest in Oasis City’s short history.

He didn’t expect that in some not-too-distant future, something far worse and more savage than this race would occur.

And that day wasn’t far off.

The champion prize was too tempting.

These foods were only part of the rewards.

That night, when Chu Che returned to the small courtyard, he pulled out a stack of registration forms and put them in front of everyone.

In the Fair Convoy, not counting Chu Che himself, the other four intended to participate.

Originally, Ding Dong wasn’t interested in this kind of competition.

But when she heard the champion might win Ideal Grain Seeds, she got interested.

Even if she, a Sequence 2, couldn’t win, she could help the convoy by holding back other competitors.

The One-Armed Boxer’s nickname wasn’t earned for nothing.

If anyone from the convoy won, it would be a win for all of them.

But when Ding Dong saw Chu Che pull a stack of competitors’ registration forms, she didn’t understand his intention.

Iron Lion scratched his head and looked at the others.

Pink-haired Girl seemed pensive, her eyes flicking around at Captain Chu.

Ding Dong frowned, clearly suspicious.

Only Chen Ye was stunned for a moment, then coldly laughed.

Of course, those two were the smartest in the convoy, thought Iron Lion with a silly grin.

Chu Che wiped nonexistent sweat from his temple and said to them, “Everyone, the champion reward this time is a lot. Not only two hundred kilograms of unexpired food, but many other things.”

“Even Ideal Grain Seeds are included.”

“So, everyone, we must win this time!”

“Captain Chu, you already said that twice, but what does this have to do with these papers?”

Pink-haired Girl hugged her sword and curiously flipped through the stack of forms.

Chu Che glanced at Chen Ye and noticed Chen Ye’s mocking smile.

As expected, this guy was the most perceptive. Chu Che wasn’t embarrassed by Chen Ye’s cold laugh.

Captain Chu pointed at the pile of documents and said, “These are the registration forms for all the contestants in this No-Rules Race.”

“Ahem… some of them are very strong, so you know what I mean, right?”

Iron Lion chuckled, “Captain, if you want me to do something, just say it. You know I’m not the brightest.”

“Ahem… Chen Ye, you speak!”

Chu Che found himself at a rare loss for words.

Chen Ye sneered, “You collected all these registration forms—don’t you think we can guess Captain Chu’s dirty plan?”

“In the coming days, he’ll use this information to cause trouble as much as possible.”

“Spread rumors, sow discord…”

“Anything that can make them hate each other and intensify their conflicts. On race day they’ll fight among themselves first. Who’ll have time to bother us then?”

“Captain Chu, am I right?”

Chen Ye wasn’t wrong—he was thinking exactly that.

Originally he’d planned to rely on his judgeship to give the convoy some favors.

But this race had almost no rules, so his room to rig things was small.

Pink-haired Girl and Ding Dong’s expressions clearly turned contemptuous.

Chu Che felt a bit awkward and clicked his tongue twice in defense, “Everyone, I’m doing this for the convoy. These papers weren’t easy to get. I’ll have to return them later.”

“If people find out it’ll be bad. Look through them quickly!”

Pink-haired Girl’s contempt didn’t fade. In a superior tone she said, “Captain Chu, you’re really dirty!”

Such underhanded tricks might be hard for others.

But for a captain who owned an Eavesdropping Radio, it was almost child’s play.
