Chapter 628: Chapter 569 Corridor

The shrill alarm wailed as dense footsteps echoed through the hallway.

Li Ang dropped the doctor—who had been hit by two anesthetic guns—tore off the restraints around his ankles, and first hurled the two anesthetic syringes in his hand toward the armed personnel at the door. He then snatched two surgical knives from a nearby stainless steel tray and threw them toward the doorway as well.

SWISH.

The four thrown objects crossed most of the operating room, precisely hitting four people.

Upon piercing muscle, the small rubber rings on either side of the anesthetic syringe needles slid backward. This created a pressure difference that automatically triggered the internal spring mechanisms, instantly injecting the anesthetic. The two men in front toppled backward, collapsing against the doorframe.

The sharp surgical knives sliced off the thumbs and index fingers of the remaining two men holding anesthetic guns. Severed palms sprayed blood like faucets.

All this happened in the blink of an eye. Before the room’s medical staff could react, Li Ang unfastened the restraint on his right wrist.

Elemental Material threaded through the long, narrow wound in his arm, stitching the injury from the inside out.

An extraterrestrial parasite... huh?

Li Ang glanced at his arm, now as good as new. He jumped off the surgical table and walked across the room barefoot, wearing a green hospital gown that was open at the sides and only secured with a string.

With each step he took, the degree of integration between the Elemental Material and his body increased.

The effects of the anesthetic and muscle relaxant rapidly faded, and his once somewhat unsteady steps became incredibly firm.

Li Ang stood firm, gazing at the one-way bulletproof glass in front of him.

The Elemental Material connected with his optic nerves, and he could even vaguely see each human silhouette standing behind the one-way glass.

He raised his finger, touched the glass, and gave it a gentle tap.

The bullet-resistant glass, capable of withstanding rifle rounds, gave a CRACK! as spiderweb fractures spread across it.

He tapped lightly again.

BANG!

The bulletproof glass shattered violently, revealing about twenty people hidden in the room. They included college professors in casual clothes and government officials in suits—several of whom instinctively raised their handguns, aiming at Li Ang.

Ignoring the gun barrels, Li Ang slowly asked, "Where am I?"

"Mr. Li Ang," the government official who had spoken over the broadcast system tried to force a smile, "you’ve been parasitized by an alien creature. We’re here to help you."

"If you call ’tying someone to an operating table to remove their organs’ help, then I should indeed thank you."

Li Ang said expressionlessly, "Where am I?"

His answer was a bullet. The brass slug spun and lodged just below his shoulder blade, tearing open a wound from which blood gushed.

Li Ang looked down at the gunshot wound on his shoulder. It wasn’t as painful as he imagined—the Elemental Material, mixed with the blood, enveloped the area and flowed back into the wound.

The bullet lodged in his muscle was then extruded by the Elemental Material and fell to the ground.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The government officials fired in succession. Li Ang leaped onto the wall, dodging all the bullets. He then twisted his body and kicked out the remaining bulletproof glass on the low wall, entering the hidden room.

The Elemental Material on the soles of his feet acted like spikes, embedding deeply into the wall and allowing him to stand on it.

The Elemental Material along his arms grew around the bones, forming a metallic longsword.

The sharp blade swept past, and the gunman’s body split at the waist as if it were jelly.

Li Ang grabbed the severed upper body to block incoming bullets, his longsword continuing to slash, reaping lives.

How strange.

Li Ang looked indifferently at the splattering blood around him. In his twenty-some years of life, he hadn’t been a particularly cruel person. He had never even killed a chicken.

If, in the subway, he had acted in self-defense with the Elemental Material doing most of the killing, now he was driving all his actions with his own will.

There wasn’t the nausea from a first encounter with gore, as often described in fiction—not even a hint of panic, fear, or guilt.

Could it be that I’m essentially a bloodthirsty person?

There was no time to think. Li Ang had already chopped off the last resister’s arm and was standing on his neck, calmly asking, "Where am I?"

"Keio University..."

Not in a military base, huh? Well, from the Japanese government’s perspective, wanting to study a mutated individual without U.S. knowledge, temporarily placing me in a university is more plausible than a military base.

Li Ang retracted his longsword, letting the man bleed to death, and stepped out of the room into the corridor.

The narrow corridor ahead was blocked by a large number of fully armed soldiers. They wore grass-green, spotted digital camouflage uniforms and tactical bulletproof vests, with modular tactical helmets equipped with night vision, and carried weapons such as Type 89 rifles and SIG Sauer MPX Submachine Guns.

As for the T-shaped corridor behind him, two squads of soldiers were on standby. They were positioned to the left and right, guarding the fork, ensuring the soldiers ahead in the corridor wouldn’t hesitate to fire for fear of hitting them.

"Stop!"

A military officer gestured with his gun barrel and shouted at Li Ang, "Stand there and don’t move!"

Land Self-Defense Force, judging by the equipment?

Li Ang placed his hand on the wall. Elemental Material flowed from his palm into the wall, tracing the metallic signature to locate the power lines.

"Leave this place," Li Ang said calmly. "I don’t want to fight."

The officer in front, however, still shouted loudly, ordering him to stop all movement.

"Sigh..."

Li Ang sighed softly as Elemental Material sliced into the wires, interrupting the electrical current.

SNAP!

All the lightbulbs in the corridor instantly went out, leaving only rows of green emergency lights clinging to the baseboards.

Li Ang retracted his hand and moved silently along the ceiling; his left arm also grew a metallic longsword.

The soldiers, suddenly plunged into darkness, hurriedly flipped down the night vision modules on their helmets or switched on the tactical flashlights mounted under their rifles.

But those few seconds were enough for Li Ang to close the distance, leaping down from the ceiling and into their midst.

The harvest began.

The longsword danced, reflecting the green emergency light.

Wherever the blade went, human bodies, gun barrels, and bulletproof plates alike were cleaved.

The pungent scent of blood filled his nostrils. Li Ang was the only one left standing in the corridor.

His bare feet trod in pools of blood, crimson droplets dripping from the blade’s edge.

Tactical flashlights lay scattered on the ground. Li Ang turned around.

The two squads of soldiers at the end of the corridor were aghast. They had previously refrained from shooting carelessly due to concerns about friendly fire, but now they pulled their triggers without hesitation, unleashing a hail of bullets.

However, it was futile.

Li Ang stood his ground. The metal longsword in his right arm automatically retracted, transforming into a steel plate about three centimeters thick, which he held in front of him.

The dense barrage of bullets embedded themselves in the steel plate and were absorbed completely.

Not only gold and silver, but copper and iron can also be temporarily absorbed, though this absorption doesn’t increase the Elemental Material’s own mass.

As Li Ang had this realization, he picked up a Fragmentation Hand Grenade from a dead soldier with his left hand. His right hand, holding the steel plate that was now smooth as a mirror, shot a thin copper chain toward the end of the corridor.

CLANG!

The tip of the chain embedded itself deeply into the wall.

A string of round objects rapidly slid along the chain, eventually falling from both sides and tumbling to the feet of the Self-Defense Force soldiers. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Those were Fragmentation Hand Grenades.

BOOM!!!

The blast’s fire and smoke surged back along the walls. Li Ang didn’t even glance at the aftermath, letting the copper chain disintegrate on its own as he turned and walked toward the corridor exit.
