Seeking Truth with a Sword-Chapter 625 - 566 Special Police
What exactly is this black matter?
Li Ang lifted his right hand, as if trying to see the foreign object hidden on his palm through the glove.
He could feel its presence as clearly as he felt his own arm, yet he was unable to control it directly.
Come out?
Li Ang tried to awaken it with words but, unsurprisingly, failed. He then held his breath and concentrated, trying to control it with his thoughts, but again, there was no response.
Do I need to make specific hand gestures like Spiderman?
He pondered, trying various hand gestures, but achieved nothing apart from nearly cramping his fingers.
The black matter appeared because I faced a physical threat on the subway. Could it be...
Li Ang thought for a moment. He took a razor from his suitcase, removed the blade, took off his glove, then pressed the blade against the back of his hand and gently made a cut.
The blade easily parted his skin, and a shallow line of blood oozed out, but this also failed to trigger a reaction.
Li Ang put down the blade and wiped the wound with an iodine-soaked cotton swab, feeling even more puzzled.
Could it be that the black matter possesses intelligence, able to distinguish between lethal and non-lethal threats? Or did it sense that I was the one harming myself?
When exactly did this thing appear in my body? Could it have been... that meteorite?
BUZZ BUZZ—
Suddenly, an alarm blared from the direction of the door. Li Ang jumped, spinning towards it.
There, a white fire alarm was buzzing, its edges flashing with red light.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
Just then, a knock sounded, accompanied by a voice from outside, "Hello, is anyone there?"
Li Ang remained silent. He slowly slid off the bed and unplugged his phone, which had been charging on the nightstand.
"Dear guest, an unidentified package was found in the hotel’s first-floor kitchen. The police suspect it is an explosive, and we are now locking down the hotel."
A second voice from outside asked, "Is there anyone inside?"
An explosive package? Could this be a second wave of attacks?
Li Ang paused, still not making a sound.
The two voices outside conversed. "Shall we move to the next room?"
"But the tablet shows that the room card for this single room is in use. Maybe the guest fell asleep? Give me the key; I’ll unlock the door."
Seeing this, Li Ang had no choice but to crawl out from under the bed and call out, "Wait a moment!"
He grabbed his phone and ID, approached the door, and peered through the peephole.
A man and a woman stood in the hallway, both dressed in hotel staff uniforms, each with a large bunch of keys at their waist.
Seeing nothing amiss, Li Ang tousled his hair and clothes to feign grogginess, then opened the door. "Can you wait a moment? My suitcase is still inside..."
CLICK.
From both sides of the doorway, two rows of pistol barrels—evidently an ambush—instantly protruded, aimed squarely at Li Ang.
"Sorry, we’ll have someone fetch it for you."
The speaker was a man in his thirties, dressed in a suit. A golden sakura badge of the Japan Police Department was pinned to his chest.
"Mr. Li Ang, is that correct?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
He held a pistol in his right hand and, with his left, retrieved handcuffs from his belt, swiftly cuffing Li Ang’s wrists. In a deep voice, he stated, "I am from the Japan Public Security Mobile Investigation Team. Due to the vicious assault at Omotesando Station in Shibuya District, we require you to come with us to assist in the investigation."
Li Ang was silent for a moment before asking, "Luring someone to open the door and immediately handcuffing them—is this how the Japan Island Police investigates cases?"
The man shook his head. "Apologies, but this matter is critical. We are treating this case with the highest priority."
He jiggled the handcuffs to ensure they were secure, then waved dismissively at the two hotel staff members. Turning, he gave a pointed look to his colleague.
Three Japan Police officers immediately rushed into the room and began searching the luggage.
As he was escorted forward, Li Ang stated, "I am a foreign national. I have the right to contact my embassy and a private lawyer." Meanwhile, his mind raced, desperately trying to understand.
How did they find me?
The surveillance cameras in the train carriage, and the server storing the train’s surveillance footage, had both been destroyed during the fight.
Could they have sketched a portrait based on descriptions from surviving passengers in the same carriage and identified me that way?
That seemed unlikely.
If they knew everything that happened in the carriage, they would have sent more people, better armed—perhaps even the military.
"We will arrange that for you."
The officer leading him seemed unaware of Li Ang’s actual role in the incident, apparently viewing him merely as a suspicious individual who had fled the primary crime scene and failed to report it. He nodded. "For now, please cooperate with our investigation."
He instructed two colleagues to stay and continue searching the room while he himself took off his suit jacket and draped it over Li Ang’s handcuffed hands.
Flanked by three other colleagues—one to his left, one to his right, one in front, and one behind—they escorted Li Ang into the elevator, heading for the hotel lobby.
In his twenty-odd years of life, Li Ang had never been escorted or treated as a suspect. His expression was stiff as he desperately racked his brain for a way to escape, hoping for some incompetence on the part of the police.
DING-DONG.
They reached the ground floor lobby. Just as the elevator doors began to open, a group of personnel in bulletproof vests and riot helmets, holding weapons resembling Israeli UZIs, appeared outside.
The officer beside Li Ang instinctively tensed, his hand moving towards his gun. He relaxed only when he saw the large "POLICE DEPARTMENT" lettering on their chests and the SAT patches on their arms. With a resigned expression, he muttered, "What’s SAT doing here?"
SAT, the Special Assault Team, is an elite unit under the Security First Class of the Japan Police Department’s Security Department, specializing in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue operations.
Compared to ordinary police officers who typically carry only sidearms, SAT is a counter-terrorism unit with superior equipment and more specialized training.
"Officer Inami, is it?"
One of them flipped open their riot helmet’s visor, revealing a woman’s face. She pulled down a face mask and said coolly, "This gentleman is now under our jurisdiction."
"No, I need to report this to my superiors..."
"Your superior will call to inform you."
The woman’s tone was firm. As if on cue, the middle-aged officer’s phone rang in his pocket just as she finished speaking.
The middle-aged officer hesitated, then took out his phone and answered it. He spoke briefly.
A terse male voice barked from the other end. After hanging up, the middle-aged officer reluctantly clenched his fists, then signaled his colleagues to lower their weapons. He took out the handcuff keys and handed them to the SAT woman.
"Mr. Li Ang," the SAT woman said, "we will contact your country’s embassy. A lawyer has also been notified and is waiting in a car outside."
"Do I have the right to refuse?"
Li Ang’s expression stiffened further. SAT’s involvement meant his situation had just become even more precarious.
"Of course not."
The woman offered a slight, almost imperceptible smile, pulled her face mask back up, and gestured. Her colleagues then escorted Li Ang through the lobby and into an armored vehicle.
