Seeking Truth with a Sword-Chapter 592 - 534: Escaping the Predicament
Could Yu Country’s ecological capacity truly sustain such a massive spider?
Why hadn’t it been crushed under its own weight? Why hadn’t it suffocated due to the pitiful gas exchange efficiency of its Spider Book Lungs?
Question after question hammered in Lu Yunan’s heart, making her want to scream, "This isn’t scientific!"
Alright, there was nothing unscientific about it. A Ghost Shovel’s mouth could act as a dimensional pocket, so it wasn’t that strange for Li Yuan to house a super-gigantic spider.
She forcibly suppressed the shock and fear in her heart, continuing to draw lines on Li Ang’s back to guide them, yet her eyes still involuntarily peered into the distance. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
The spider looked like a king, overlooking its tens of millions of subjects. Below its six single eyes (it originally had eight, but two were blind), its chelicerae clasped something elongated that reflected a metallic sheen.
Lu Yunan squinted for a closer look; what was held in the spider’s chelicerae appeared to be... a Longsword?
BOOM BOOM BOOM!
The tremor of the cliff interrupted her thoughts. More Fortress Giant Spiders were approaching; they had to hasten their pace if they didn’t want to be accidentally trampled and crushed.
The pair took advantage of the spiders’ diverted attention and climbed up faster. It took nearly two hours to finally get out of the spider silk layer.
Once out of the realm of the spider masses, the air was suddenly fresher. It wasn’t as stifling, humid, or oppressively thick anymore, nor did they need to worry about inhaling spider silk into their lungs.
Through the mist, they could faintly see the sparse and weak sunlight above.
Seeing sunlight also meant that land was not far away.
They renewed their spirits and climbed with all their might for a few more hours.
"Just a bit more, just a bit more..." Li Ang muttered to himself. His left hand, raw and bloody, braced against a stubborn rock, supporting his weight. His other hand reached forward and felt the flat ground and weeds.
The wildly growing weeds, messy and sharp, pricked his torn palms, causing an itching and stabbing pain.
But all Li Ang felt inside was joy. He grabbed a clump of weeds and, using all his strength, hauled himself over the edge of the cliff.
THUMP.
He and Lu Yunan rolled onto the ground, taking deep breaths of the air filled with the scent of grass and basking in the winter sunlight.
After regaining some strength, Li Ang and Lu Yunan got up together. They helped each other hobble a few steps away from the cliff as if fleeing. The feeling of dangling for two whole days had left an indelible mark on their memory, making them instinctively doubt whether the ground beneath their feet might collapse again. They had to get far away from the cliff to shake off this unease.
One crippled and the other blind, they staggered across the desolate line of grass and collapsed exhausted on the ground once more.
Li Ang’s hands were raw and blistered, his fingernails all split open, filled with countless tiny pebbles. The boots on his feet were torn at the front, revealing equally chapped and split toes.
Lu Yunan’s arms were engorged from maintaining the same position for so long. Her fractured right leg was swollen and purple-red, with veins bulging out like earthworms. Inevitably jostled and abraded during the climb, the original fracture had worsened.
"HAHA, HAHAHA."
"HAHAHA, HAHAHAHAHA."
They laughed together, wildly and unashamedly, so much so that tears splashed from the corners of their eyes.
Outside the range of Li Yuan’s influence, Spiritual Energy surged from all around, and the stagnant Qi Sea began to turn again.
Li Ang wiped the tears from his eyes. His vision still hadn’t returned; perhaps the hit he took on his head was an irreversible injury.
But it didn’t matter.
As his Qi Sea restarted, Mo Si responded to his summons once again, reconnected to his optic nerve, and made his vision clear.
Li Ang lifted his sore arm and drew a Water Talisman out of thin air, congealing droplets to wash away the sand on his palms and the dust on his face. Abundant Mo Si surged out, mending both minor and major injuries on his body, including alleviating his dehydration.
He slowly exhaled a breath of murky air and looked at Lu Yunan with a questioning glance. She took a whistle from her embrace and blew it, then spread her hands, signaling him to proceed at his discretion.
Li Ang placed his palm on Lu Yunan’s chest. Strands of Mo Si flowed from the center of his palm, spreading and gently piercing her skin. Some threads went toward her legs to stabilize fractured bones, expel dark clots, and lower blood pressure. Other threads took droplets formed by the Water Talisman and, after heavy filtering, replenished Lu Yunan, alleviating her dehydration. Still other threads searched the crevices of Lu Yunan’s clothes for ants and Parasites, exterminating them to prevent illness.
"Are your eyes better now?" Lu Yunan noticed Li Ang’s lively eyes and said with a smile, "Your black threads really have a lot of uses, huh? They can be weapons, armor, and heal injuries. If you quit being a doctor, you’d more than qualify as a beautician."
Li Ang rolled his eyes. "Black threads? The professional term is Mo Si, alright?"
"Got it, ’black threads.’ Good ’black threads.’" Lu Yunan chuckled. "Damn, it’s so frustrating to compare abilities; your ’cheat’ is on a whole other level. I’d rather trade my foreknowledge for that."
"It wouldn’t be a problem to give you a piece as well." Li Ang casually plucked a clump of Mo Si from his palm and tossed it to Lu Yunan. "If you get hurt in the future, just slap this clump on your body. As long as it’s not a fatal wound like decapitation, it can mostly bring you back."
Lu Yunan looked astonished and was about to ask something when Li Ang interrupted, "Let me explain first. This stuff can transform into any material and take any shape. It’s under my control, acting as my eyes, ears, and mouth, and can even duplicate itself by absorbing metals. That’s why I usually use it to gather intelligence."
The two had climbed up from the abyss of the valley, supporting each other after having witnessed life-and-death situations. After sharing their innermost feelings across two nights, Li Ang didn’t want to hide anything from her.
"It can change shape without delay..." Lu Yunan marveled as she weighed the Mo Si, raising an eyebrow suggestively. "Little Love, how about transforming it into a cellphone for fun?"
"Hey, hey, transforming consumes my own Spiritual Power, you know," Li Ang retorted, feigning indifference. Yet, his Heart Thought dutifully remote-controlled the Mo Si, shaping it into a Huawei 14 Pro Max Cold Front Red, even thoughtfully simulating the phone case and screen protector. Of course, it was just a shell with a color screen; the Mo Si and Li Ang were far from being able to mimic such intricate electronic components. The "phone’s" offered functions were also limited to the Mo Si’s original abilities.
"Ah, this touch, ah, these buttons, I’m gonna die of happiness." Lu Yunan was profoundly moved as she caressed the phone’s screen and opened the app icons. She browsed the pre-set information Li Ang had included related to agriculture, handcrafts, medicine, and industry. Then, she posed facetiously, "Whatever you love is your life. A fine youth of the new era should be engrossed in ’Learning Strength Country’ in the fantasy world of Tivat at four in the morning."
Li Ang habitually shot back, "Check the IP, and it’s a Northern Yu Country netizen, huh?"
SNAP.
Lu Yunan closed the phone and said sincerely, "Thanks. With this information, and my Magic, the lives of the Black Mountain Clan can improve by a lot."
"Mhm." Li Ang nodded, and the two lapsed back into silence.
TAP TAP TAP—
From a great distance, a small unit of Cavalry galloped forth. They were not Turkic People but Black Mountain people disguised as Turkic Riders.
"My people are coming." Lu Yunan looked towards the approaching dust in the distance and took a deep breath, earnestly saying to Li Ang, "Come with me."
