Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 82: The Familiar Feeling Is Back
Wren Sutton snapped back to reality in a panic, her hands pressed against Adrian Lancaster’s chest, instinctively unwilling to be close to him.
’But I know perfectly well that I can’t provoke him right now. Otherwise, I won’t be able to get out of this car and go home.’
The pressure from her hands eased slightly. Wren Sutton bit her lip, looked up, and gave Adrian Lancaster an innocent look, as though blaming him for hurting her with his weight.
Adrian Lancaster’s heart tightened. He shifted his position and gently pulled her into his arms, his warm breath ghosting across her ear.
"Once Grandma is out of the hospital, I’ll come get you."
Wren Sutton nodded obediently, playing her part for him. "Okay."
"I’ll handle things at the hospital. You don’t need to go every day."
"I know," Wren Sutton answered meekly. "Don’t overwork yourself, either. Rest when you’re tired."
Pleased, Adrian Lancaster couldn’t resist placing a soft kiss on Wren Sutton’s forehead.
"Once this busy period is over, we’ll go on vacation. You’ve always wanted to see the aurora, haven’t you? I’ll take you."
Again, Wren Sutton nodded in compliance. "Okay."
The familiar feeling returned. Adrian Lancaster felt his mood settle, and he smoothly let Wren Sutton go, allowing her to get out of the car.
Wren Sutton left without a backward glance.
Upon learning that Wren Sutton’s follow-up exam results were normal, Mrs. Sutton was finally able to relax. She discreetly handed the medical report back to her daughter.
"Put this away. Don’t let your father see it; he doesn’t know anything."
"Okay."
It had been Wren Sutton’s request that her mother keep this from her father.
"Oh, by the way, Nina, you said Adrian brought you home. Why didn’t he come up with you?"
Wren Sutton sighed sadly.
"His grandmother fractured a bone. She was still in the operating room when I left the hospital."
"Oh dear, how did she fracture a bone? Surgery at her age is such an ordeal. God bless her, I hope she’ll be alright."
"She accidentally fell down the stairs this morning. She fractured her lumbar spine and ankle. The doctor said it was fortunate she didn’t injure her head."
Mrs. Sutton’s heart went out to her, but aside from feeling sad, there was nothing she could do to help.
"Your father and I will go to the hospital to visit her tomorrow."
Wren Sutton didn’t object. "Okay, we’ll go together."
...
A little after eight in the evening, Wren Sutton received a text from Adrian Lancaster.
"The surgery is over. It was a success."
Wren Sutton was overjoyed. The weight on her heart finally lifted.
"That’s wonderful! Has Grandma woken up yet?"
Adrian: "No, the anesthesia hasn’t worn off. It’s nothing serious."
Wren: "My parents would like to visit Grandma at the hospital tomorrow morning."
"Send me the time. I’ll arrange for a driver to pick you all up."
"I’ll drive myself."
"No."
"Why?"
"Do as I say." No reason was given.
"..." Wren Sutton put her phone away and lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling as a million thoughts raced through her mind.
’She knew Adrian Lancaster’s domineering nature all too well. Whether at the office or at home, he hated being defied by anyone.’
’Even when she went along with him, he wasn’t guaranteed to be in a good mood. But defying him was like yanking on a tiger’s tail—his temper was foul.’
’Especially at home. If she disobeyed him or deliberately provoked him, he would...’
The sudden ringing of her phone cut through Wren Sutton’s thoughts.
She picked up her phone and saw it was Adrian Lancaster calling.
Wren Sutton frowned. She didn’t want to answer, but against her better judgment, she accepted the call.
"What are you up to?" Adrian Lancaster asked, his tone languid.
"Answering my phone."
"That’s a lame joke. Try again."
Wren Sutton was in no mood for his games. "What did you call for?"
Adrian got down to business. "It’s important. The doctors are doing their rounds tomorrow morning, so I can’t get away. I’m having the driver pick you up. It’s settled."
Wren Sutton protested, "Don’t you think that’s incredibly domineering?"
"Women prefer it when a man is a little domineering."
"Who told you that? It’s not true at all."
His interest piqued, Adrian Lancaster stood by the window, gazing through the darkness in the direction of the Sutton family home.
"Then tell me, what kind of man do women prefer?"
"I don’t know." Wren Sutton’s blunt reply killed the conversation. ’Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell him.’
Adrian: "..."
"It’s late, so I’m going to bed. Please don’t bother me again." With that, Wren Sutton hung up.
Adrian: "..."
’Women. They can’t stay obedient for more than three seconds.’
...
「The next day.」
After finishing breakfast and getting ready, the three members of the Sutton family left the house at nine-thirty sharp. Downstairs, they saw the Lancaster family’s driver waiting.
"Young Madam. The young master arranged for me to pick you up. Mr. Sutton, Mrs. Sutton, please get in."
Mr. and Mrs. Sutton were, of course, quite pleased. "Thank you for coming to pick us up."
"Mr. Sutton, Mrs. Sutton, it’s my pleasure. This way, please." The driver had already opened the car door for them.
With both her parents in the car, Wren Sutton had no choice but to follow.
’At this point, I have no other choice.’
’If I don’t get in, the driver will be in a difficult position, and my parents will definitely get suspicious.’
’Until I have the divorce papers in hand, I don’t want my parents to know about my broken marriage.’
The driver headed straight for Wellspring Orthopedic Hospital. Forty minutes later, the car pulled up in front of the inpatient building.
Wren Sutton got out of the car with her parents and was about to head up the steps to the entrance.
Just then, the blare of an aggressive car horn sounded from behind them as another car pulled up to the curb.
Wren turned and saw Maya Marshall getting out of the passenger seat. Despite leaning on a crutch, her gaze was full of defiance. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
The driver opened the rear door, and a richly dressed woman stepped out. The Rhiannon of Maya Marshall’s features was a seventy-percent match to hers.
Wren quickly guessed that the woman was Maya Marshall’s mother.
’The mother-daughter pair must also be here to visit Grandma.’
