Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 49: The Two Men Are Evenly Matched
Rounding the corner, Adrian Lancaster recognized Wren Sutton’s back at a glance. She was indeed sitting across from Sean Sterling, the two of them eating and chatting, looking quite close.
Adrian Lancaster felt a surge of rage, as if he’d been betrayed. Gritting his teeth, he quickened his pace, his eyes turning bloodshot with intense hostility.
Maya Marshall said nothing, quietly following him.
Adrian Lancaster’s aura was so intense that Sean Sterling keenly sensed a sharp gaze shooting toward him like a blade.
Sure enough, he looked up and met Adrian Lancaster’s sharp, sinister dark eyes.
Anyone else would have been unable to withstand the immense pressure.
However, Sean Sterling was calm and composed, his gaze cool. Even while sitting, his presence was no less powerful than Adrian Lancaster’s.
The two men were evenly matched.
Sean Sterling wasn’t worried about himself. His concern was that Adrian Lancaster would make things difficult for Wren Sutton.
Wren Sutton heard the footsteps approaching from behind and guessed it was Adrian Lancaster. She wasn’t surprised at all.
’The inevitable has arrived.’
With a blank expression, Wren Sutton picked up the glass of red wine in front of her and slowly took a small sip.
As she set her glass down, Adrian Lancaster was standing over her. His powerful, icy presence was impossible to ignore, trapping her like an airtight net.
She had no intention of running.
The atmosphere froze. Time seemed to stand still as the very air began to turn to ice.
After a moment, Sean Sterling broke the silence. "Adrian, don’t get the wrong idea. Sit down and let’s talk this over."
Adrian Lancaster glanced up at him, his expression cold and distant.
"Sean Sterling, I don’t want to talk to you right now."
Using his full name was a clear sign he was showing no mercy.
"..." Sean Sterling’s gaze darkened, but he held his tongue.
He knew all about Adrian Lancaster’s foul temper and wouldn’t stoop to his level.
Adrian Lancaster coldly withdrew his gaze and fixed it back on Wren Sutton, his eyes burning like torches.
"Care to explain, Mrs. Lancaster?"
He practically spat out the two words, his hatred obvious.
Wren Sutton sat upright, leaning against the back of her chair, her posture poised and dignified.
"There’s nothing to explain. It is what it looks like. I invited Sean to dinner at Xylos."
Adrian Lancaster’s pupils trembled violently, his anger flaring even hotter.
He couldn’t believe Wren was the one who had invited Sean out, and to Xylos of all places.
’Does she think I’m dead or something?’
"Your reason," Adrian Lancaster gritted out, giving her one chance to explain.
Wren couldn’t be bothered to tell him. Besides, he wouldn’t believe her even if she did.
"What reason does anyone need to eat? It’s a daily necessity. Besides, aren’t you out having dinner with Maya Marshall?"
"It’s not the same!" Adrian Lancaster blurted out.
A cold, disdainful sneer touched the corner of Wren Sutton’s lips.
’Rules for thee, but not for me.’
"How is it any different?"
"..." Adrian Lancaster’s face darkened, but he couldn’t come up with an answer.
"If you can’t answer, then please leave. Don’t ruin our dinner," Wren said, bluntly shooing him away.
Sean Sterling: "..."
’Why do I find this so satisfying?’
Adrian Lancaster was furious, the veins on his forehead practically bulging.
"Wren Sutton, you’ve got some nerve. Do you really think there’s nothing I can do to you?"
Wren Sutton ignored him, lowering her head to focus entirely on her meal. She ate with great relish.
Seeing her nonchalant attitude and the fact that she still had the appetite to eat, Adrian Lancaster felt like he was about to explode.
At that moment, Maya Marshall stepped forward.
"I couldn’t help but overhear you. If there’s a misunderstanding, it’s best to clear it up now. There’s no need to fight. Let’s all just calm down a little."
Wren couldn’t even be bothered to spare Maya a glance. The very sight of her was nauseating, and she certainly had no desire to speak to her.
"Sean, you don’t mind if we join you, do you?" Maya Marshall asked tentatively.
Sean Sterling didn’t answer right away, looking to Wren Sutton instead.
Wren’s answer was clear. "I do."
"Too bad." Adrian Lancaster sat down, pressing right up against her.
Wren Sutton: "..."
Sean Sterling: "..."
Maya Marshall: "..."
’She had wanted to join their table, but not for Adrian to sit next to Wren. With them pressed up against each other, where was she supposed to sit?’
Following Adrian Lancaster’s instructions, a waiter brought over the couple’s set meal he and Maya Marshall had ordered.
A table for two had now become a table for four.
No one had expected things to turn out this way. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
The atmosphere was incredibly awkward.
No one spoke.
Adrian Lancaster’s face was taut as he furiously cut his steak, not eating a single bite.
Wren Sutton, on the other hand, acted as if nothing was wrong, eating and drinking as she pleased. Nothing was going to ruin her appetite.
Trying to defuse the tension, Maya Marshall took the initiative and broke the silence.
She began reminiscing about the past, mostly about experiences she had shared with Sean and Adrian.
Her goal was to make it impossible for Wren to join the conversation, effectively isolating her.
To Wren, it was all just background noise; she didn’t register a single word.
Suddenly, for some unknown reason, her stomach churned, and a bitter taste rose in her throat.
Covering her mouth, Wren shot up from her seat and hurried toward the restroom.
The waves of nausea were getting stronger and stronger.
