Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 22: Tired of Being Mrs. Lancaster, Want to Be Mrs. Sterling?
"Who?!" Adrian Lancaster was shocked. His pupils contracted violently, and a sharp pain lanced through his heart.
The front desk attendant timidly repeated, "President Lancaster, room 9999 was registered under Mr. Sean Sterling’s name."
Confirming he hadn’t misheard, Adrian Lancaster clenched his fists, his entire body radiating a menacing aura.
The air seemed to freeze over, chilling to the bone.
’Wren Sutton is actually with Sean Sterling...’
"President Lancaster..." the hotel manager whispered, breaking the silence.
He didn’t recognize Wren Sutton, but he knew Sean Sterling.
Based on experience and intuition, he ventured a guess: it looked like the classic, cliché drama of two men fighting over one woman.
’This Miss Sutton is quite something.’
"If anyone dares to leak a word of this, I won’t spare them," Adrian Lancaster said, his expression chillingly dangerous.
The manager, well aware of President Lancaster’s methods, immediately gave his assurance. "Rest assured, President Lancaster. Nothing will be leaked."
After delivering his warning, Adrian Lancaster strode toward the elevator with sharp, angry steps.
「...」
Room 9999.
Wren Sutton swiped the key card and entered. The layout resembled a presidential suite.
The living room was pitch black, except for a light in the bathroom and a small night light in the bedroom, which cast a soft, gentle glow.
Wren followed the light into the bedroom and saw Isla Griffith lying on her side in the middle of the bed, covered by a blanket and sleeping soundly.
She instinctively went over and gently touched Isla’s forehead. Confirming her temperature was normal and she didn’t have a fever, Wren finally relaxed, letting out a sigh of relief.
’It’s a good thing Sean Sterling was the one who brought you back to the hotel. If it had been anyone else, I can’t imagine what might have happened.’
To avoid disturbing Isla’s sleep, Wren decided to rest in another bedroom. Just as she turned and walked into the living room, she heard a heavy knock on the door.
Wren didn’t think much of it, assuming it was room service, and went to open the door.
Suddenly, a brutish force yanked her out into the hallway. Her hand was still on the doorknob, and with the momentum, the door slammed shut with a loud BANG.
Immediately after, Adrian Lancaster’s livid, furious face appeared before her.
He was gripping her wrist so forcefully it felt like he wanted to crush it.
Wren was both stunned and furious. Her mind went blank for a second, and she almost thought she was hallucinating.
"What are you doing here?"
"Surprised, are we?" Adrian Lancaster’s eyes were bloodshot, his sharp gaze terrifying.
An oppressive aura washed over her. Wren struggled uncomfortably. "What’s with the sarcastic tone?"
She was, in fact, very surprised to see Adrian. But hearing those words from his mouth, their meaning was completely twisted.
Adrian Lancaster gritted his teeth, his voice thick with hostility. "At a time like this, you still have the nerve to ask me what I mean?"
Wren was completely baffled, unable to guess the reason for his rage.
"This is ridiculous. What are you even talking about? I don’t understand a single word."
She tried to wrench her hand away, but she couldn’t break free.
"My wrist hurts. Let go."
Instead, Adrian tightened his grip, his disappointment and anger reaching a boiling point.
Betrayal was the one thing he hated most. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"I was trying to let you save some face, but you just had to make me spell it out. Wren Sutton, when did you become so cheap?!"
Wren trembled, a dense, sharp pain spreading through her heart as if it were being hollowed out. Tears instantly welled in her eyes.
"What did I do? How can you say that to me?"
Adrian stared at her coldly. "Still pretending? A decent act."
"Adrian Lancaster!" Wren was heartbroken and aggrieved as tears streamed down her face. "When will you ever learn to respect me?"
’It’s either the silent treatment or him picking fights for no reason. He never considers my feelings in anything he says or does.’
’She couldn’t even bear to think about how she’d survived these past few years of marriage.’
"Do you deserve respect? I was being considerate, knowing you just had surgery, and I’ve been holding back from touching you all this time. But you? You go behind my back to find other men. Are you that desperate for attention?"
As Adrian’s words faded, a sharp SLAP echoed through the hall. With red-rimmed eyes, Wren had struck him across the face, leaving a clear handprint on his cheek.
The air instantly froze. The silence was terrifying.
Wren finally understood. Adrian thought she was fooling around with another man in the hotel.
Her heart shattered into a million pieces.
"Adrian Lancaster, you bastard."
Adrian’s head was turned to the side, and a trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
No one had ever dared to hit him. Wren Sutton was the first.
He wiped away the blood, a layer of frost settling over his features.
"Flying into a rage now that the truth is out? You should be grateful I don’t hit women."
"What you call the truth is the greatest insult to me."
Adrian grabbed Wren’s chin, looking down at her with a scrutinizing, mocking gaze.
"When did you start hooking up with him? Tired of being Mrs. Lancaster, want to be Mrs. Sterling instead? You’re really overestimating yourself. The Sterling Family’s circle is even more treacherous than the Lancaster family’s. Do you really think sleeping with Sean Sterling a few times will make him fall for you? You’re not even his type."
Hearing this, Wren felt as if she’d been struck by lightning. She trembled with rage, feeling like her insides were about to explode.
"How could you say something like that? Adrian Lancaster, you’re truly hopeless! To suspect your own cousin... are you even human? There’s nothing going on between Sean and me, so get your mind out of the gutter!"
"Innocent or not, I’ll have my answer after I check."
With that, Adrian pulled out a key card and moved to open the door.
’You have to catch them both in the act. Even if Sean Sterling was his cousin, he was going to beat him to a pulp today.’
Wren rushed to stop him. "You can’t open it."
"Already protecting him, are you? And you still claim you’re innocent? Wren Sutton, do you take me for a dead man?!"
Adrian was livid. He shoved her aside.
With a BEEP, the door unlocked.
His fists were clenched and his eyes were murderous. Just as he stepped one foot inside, Wren’s furious shout came from behind him.
"My best friend is sleeping in there! You can’t go in!"
"..." Adrian paused, his brow furrowing tightly.
Wren rushed forward, blocking the entryway.
"There is someone in the room, but it’s not a man. It’s Isla Griffith."
Adrian didn’t believe her. "I’m not that easy to fool. Move. Don’t make me get physical with you."
Wren was on the verge of breaking down. "I’m not lying to you!"
"Then stop blocking the way like you have something to hide."
Wren was no match for Adrian. He ended up dragging her into the bedroom with him.
When he saw that the person on the bed was indeed Isla Griffith, Adrian’s expression changed. He spun around and walked out without a second glance.
Even so, he wasn’t ready to give up.
"Where’s Sean Sterling? Tell him to come out."
Hearing this, Wren wanted nothing more than to slap him again. "After all this, you still suspect me?"
"The room is registered in his name, which means he was here. And you just happen to be here too. What am I supposed to think?" Adrian practically roared the last sentence.
Tears of anger streamed down Wren’s face, and she let out a bitter, heartbroken laugh.
"In the end, it’s because you don’t trust me. No matter how much I explain, it’s useless."
She took out her phone, dialed Sean Sterling’s number on the spot, and shoved the phone into Adrian’s hand.
"Ask him yourself."
Adrian: "..."
Wren turned and walked back into the bedroom, leaning against the door and slowly sinking to the floor, her vision blurring with tears.
RING... RING... RING...
The call connected, and Sean Sterling’s voice came through. He was driving; the sound of wind could be faintly heard on his end.
"Hello?"
"..."
Adrian’s pupils trembled violently. He finally believed that Sean Sterling was not in the room.
He subconsciously glanced toward the bedroom, where he could clearly hear Wren crying.
’Could it really have been a misunderstanding?’
