Chapter 167: Chapter 167: Baby, Will You Miss Me?

Wren Sutton realized she’d been tricked, but it was already too late.

As Adrian Lancaster held her, he lowered his head for a kiss. She tried to dodge, but he pursued, trapping her firmly in his embrace.

Wren Sutton was so frustrated she was on the verge of tears, passively accepting the man’s forceful, passionate kiss.

Adrian Lancaster knew his limits. Aside from the hug and the kiss, he made no other indecent moves.

The seconds ticked by.

The charged atmosphere reached its peak before gradually calming down.

Adrian Lancaster reluctantly released Wren Sutton.

Furious and embarrassed, Wren Sutton shoved him away. "Adrian Lancaster, you’re a rogue, a jerk."

Adrian Lancaster wasn’t the least bit angry. Instead, a smirk that was equal parts elegant and roguish played on his lips.

"Mhm, I’m a jerk. I just can’t help myself when it comes to you."

"..." Wren Sutton was so furious she could spit.

’She’s this furious, and he still has the nerve to say something like that.’

"I’m only like this with you. Don’t you like it?" Adrian Lancaster’s gaze was intense.

’Like hell I do!’

Wren Sutton turned away in a huff and went back to washing the dishes.

Adrian Lancaster tried to help, but she just yelled at him to get out.

...

Since Adrian Lancaster had been drinking during dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Sutton insisted he not drive, for safety’s sake. They had him stay the night at The Sutton Family’s home.

Adrian Lancaster was, of course, more than happy to oblige.

Wren Sutton, however, was not happy about it. But she couldn’t show her displeasure, so she could only force a smile and accept the situation.

Mr. and Mrs. Sutton went for a walk downstairs after dinner every evening, and today was no exception.

The couple said a quick word to their daughter and son-in-law, put on their shoes, and left holding hands.

Now, only Wren Sutton and Adrian Lancaster were left at home.

The TV was on in the living room, but Wren Sutton was just distractedly flipping through the channels. Finding nothing she wanted to watch, she decided to put on her shoes and go for a walk downstairs too.

"Where are you going?"

Adrian Lancaster’s voice came from behind her. He had just come out of the restroom.

Without turning her head, Wren Sutton pulled open the door. She was agitated, and her tone was harsh. "I’ll go wherever I want. It’s none of your business."

Adrian Lancaster’s face darkened as he stood frozen in place.

Aside from Wren Sutton, no one would ever dare to speak to him with such an impatient, dismissive tone.

Just as he took a step to follow her, his phone rang. It was Kevin Dawson.

Adrian Lancaster answered. "Speak."

"President Lancaster, there’s been an incident at the Creston branch. There are fatalities."

Adrian Lancaster’s expression instantly turned grim. "What happened?"

"A factory explosion," Kevin Dawson said, his voice heavy. "Five dead, nine injured."

True to his decisive nature, Adrian Lancaster didn’t hesitate. "Book a flight immediately."

This was no small matter. As president of the corporation, he had to be on-site personally, and there wasn’t a moment to waste.

After hanging up, Adrian Lancaster headed for the door, slipping into the elevator just as the doors were about to close.

He and Wren Sutton were the only two people in the elevator.

"There’s been an incident at a branch office," Adrian Lancaster said, breaking the silence. "I have to go to Creston."

Wren Sutton gave a barely perceptible nod, seemingly unconcerned.

"Five dead, nine injured," Adrian Lancaster said.

Wren Sutton’s heart tightened. She looked up at him. "It’s that serious? What happened?"

"A factory explosion."

"..."

Soon, the elevator reached the first floor, and the two of them walked out in silence. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Adrian Lancaster stopped by his car and made a point of telling Wren Sutton, "I’ll do my best to be back for the court date."

Wren Sutton wanted to say that he didn’t need to.

But the next second, Adrian Lancaster suddenly turned and pulled her into a hug.

"Take care of yourself and wait for me to come back. Use the black card to buy yourself a new car. Don’t worry about saving my money."

"The car I have now is still drivable."

"I can’t rest easy with you driving a car that has problems."

Wren Sutton’s heart filled with a complex mix of emotions, and she didn’t know what to say.

Adrian Lancaster released her and looked down at her. "We’ll be apart for a few days. I’ll miss you."

Wren Sutton: "..."

"Baby, will you miss me?"
