Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 154: If I Say I Want a Divorce
Wren Sutton was being kissed so hard she could barely breathe, but Adrian Lancaster refused to let her go.
Like the storm raging outside, his kiss was fierce and urgent. He kissed her until she was oblivious to the world, so out of control he seemed to want to devour her whole.
The disparity in their strength was too great. Wren Sutton’s struggles were futile, and she was forced to tilt her head back and accept Adrian Lancaster’s furious onslaught.
She felt her body go limp, her strength draining away. She could only remain standing by leaning against the door for support.
Suddenly, a pair of searing hands wrapped around her waist, lifted her up, and set her down on a high stool to the side.
With her feet now dangling off the ground, Wren Sutton was trapped. Adrian Lancaster’s tall, imposing frame loomed over her as he bent down, holding her close to continue his kiss with no intention of stopping.
"Mmph..."
Starved for air, Wren Sutton grew dizzy, her head spinning. It felt as if she would suffocate at any moment.
She let out a pained whimper, pushing hard against Adrian Lancaster’s chest. With great difficulty, three words escaped the corner of her mouth, "Let me go..."
Hearing her choked, aggrieved sob, Adrian Lancaster tasted the salty bitterness of her tears as they traced a path down her cheeks to the corner of her mouth. The flavor seared him, making his heart clench, and he immediately released her lips.
"Breathe."
Wren Sutton’s gasps were ragged. She coughed a few times, her eyes brimming with tears, looking as if she were about to collapse.
Seeing her so hurt and miserable made Adrian Lancaster feel awful.
’He truly hadn’t meant to bully Wren. He only wanted to kiss her; he hadn’t done anything else.’
"Are you still angry about what happened earlier?"
Wren Sutton ignored him, her fragile and pitiful appearance enough to make anyone’s heart ache.
Adrian Lancaster tried everything he could think of to soothe her, whispering gentle words as he wiped away her tears.
"It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have made you take a cab home by yourself, and I shouldn’t have lost my temper over a ring."
He hugged Wren, promising her from the bottom of his heart, "No more fighting, no more losing my temper from now on."
But Wren wasn’t upset about the ring at all. She was on the verge of madness, tormented by Adrian Lancaster’s volatile emotions.
’He did whatever he wanted, never once considering her feelings.’
’Every compromise she made was met with him bullying her even more intensely.’
"Why do you treat me like this? Why?"
"I’m not your pet, to be placated with a few nice words when you’re happy and tossed aside when you’re not."
"My body is my own, not yours! What gives you the right to do whatever you want with it? Have you ever asked for my permission?"
"I hate myself for not being more ruthless, for being too considerate. That’s what gives you the opening to take advantage of me."
"I never should have opened the door for you, Adrian Lancaster. You’re a bastard."
Wren sobbed as she spoke, unleashing all the resentment that had built up inside her, her clenched fists pounding against Adrian Lancaster.
"What gives you the right... What gives you the right..."
"I hate you."
Listening to her hoarse, broken voice, Adrian Lancaster felt his own heart shatter right along with it.
He let Wren vent, not retorting when she cursed him, not fighting back when she hit him.
After her outburst, Wren fell silent. She kept her head down, her eyes red-rimmed.
The rain was still falling, beating against the windowpane.
"Feel a little better now that you’ve gotten it all out? If not, you can go again."
A sense of calm had returned to Wren. She was no longer hysterical, a completely different person from moments ago.
"No matter what you say, I won’t..."
Adrian Lancaster cut in, "You won’t forgive me, is that it?"
Wren’s silence was a tacit admission.
An unreadable emotion darkened Adrian Lancaster’s eyes. He was finally, truly realizing that their marriage had run into serious trouble. If he couldn’t fix it, there would be no future for him and Wren.
Although Wren was right here in front of him, he felt as if she were a world away.
"Then tell me. What can I do to make it up to you? So you can feel better, so you won’t hate me so much."
"I don’t want you to make it up to me. I just need you to cooperate."
"Cooperate with what? Tell me."
Wren took a deep breath. For the first time, she broached the subject of divorce with Adrian Lancaster. "If I said I wanted a divorce..."
