Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Staying the Night with You

Faced with Wren Sutton’s unreasonable tantrum, especially after she said she hated him, Adrian Lancaster’s face darkened. He walked to the front of the car and set her down.

"You’re dead set on staying here tonight."

"That’s right." Wren Sutton’s tone was firm. "I can’t bear to leave Zoey all alone in the hospital."

Adrian Lancaster felt a sting of jealousy. "Anyone who didn’t know better would actually think she’s your daughter."

Wren scoffed. "I don’t care what other people think."

"Then you need to correct what she calls you. You can’t just let a child call you ’Mama.’ You might not care about the misunderstanding, but I do. The Lancaster family does."

Wren was speechless.

Adrian turned away. The cool night air blew past, doing little to ease his frustration.

Silence fell for a moment.

"If you insist on staying, I’ll stay with you."

Wren snapped back to reality, thinking she must have misheard. "What did you say?"

"I’ll stay with you at the hospital overnight," Adrian repeated, his voice low and deep.

"You don’t have to," Wren refused. "There isn’t an extra bed in the hospital room."

’The bed was just big enough for her and Zoey. Where would Adrian possibly sleep?’

For Adrian, this was hardly a problem. It was something he could resolve in a minute.

"We’ll move to a VIP suite, one with a private lounge."

Wren was still reluctant. "Zoey just finally fell asleep. Changing rooms will wake her. Let’s just forget it."

"If she wakes up, she can go back to sleep."

"You..." Wren was speechless.

Adrian turned to face her, his gaze deep and intense.

"You have two choices. Option one: we switch rooms, and I stay here with you. Option two: I take you home."

Wren knew Adrian’s awful temper and his methods all too well. He had a million ways to drag her out of the hospital; of that, she had no doubt.

The seconds ticked by.

Wren was torn. Realizing she was outmatched and couldn’t win, she was finally forced to make a choice.

"We’ll change rooms."

Adrian was satisfied. The hard lines around his eyes softened slightly. Without a word, he took Wren’s hand and led her back toward the emergency building.

Wren remained expressionless. She tried to pull her hand away several times, but his grip was just too tight. She couldn’t break free at all, and she looked thoroughly unhappy.

Back on their floor, Adrian went to the nurses’ station to arrange the room transfer while Wren returned to the room to pack. She tried her best not to disturb Zoey.

In reality, Zoey was sound asleep and dreaming. She dreamt that Wren and Adrian had taken her to an amusement park, where they played, ate delicious food, sang, danced, and played games together...

Soon, Wren placed their packed belongings on a cabinet by the door. It wasn’t much, just a single bag that she would have Adrian carry to the VIP room.

She returned to the bedside and prepared to pick up Zoey, her movements exceptionally careful.

Just then, Adrian pushed the door open and came to her side.

"The room’s all set. It’s on the top floor."

Wren acknowledged him with an unreadable grunt.

Then, she heard Adrian’s voice again. "This kid looks like she weighs a bit. I’ll carry her."

Wren thought he had to be joking. "You don’t know how to carry a child. You’ll definitely wake her up."

"Who says I don’t know how? I used to carry Lucia all the time before she started kindergarten."

Adrian’s words were startling.

Before Wren could say anything more, he simply scooped Zoey up, patting her back gently. Once he confirmed the little girl hadn’t stirred, he turned and walked toward the door.

In disbelief, Wren followed behind him with the bag.

’She truly hadn’t expected Adrian to know how to carry a child, let alone do it so well. At the very least, he hadn’t woken Zoey.’

They took the elevator to the top floor.

The VIP suite was fully equipped. In addition to the large patient room, it also had a lounge, a kitchenette, a shower, a bathroom, and a small, study-like office.

Adrian laid Zoey down on the hospital bed.

Wren started unpacking their things, familiarizing herself with the new room.

Zoey remained lost in her sweet dream, the corners of her mouth turned up in a slight smile.

When Adrian happened to glance over and see the little girl’s expression, he froze. For a second, it was as if he was looking at Lucia as a child.
