Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 128: Enraging Adrian Lancaster, Stepping on His Landmines
Faced with Kevin Dawson’s inquiry, Aaron Pierce hesitated for a moment.
The question didn’t involve any confidential case details, so there was no harm in telling him.
Just as Aaron Pierce was about to speak, his phone suddenly rang.
"I need to take this call."
Kevin Dawson didn’t mind. "Okay."
Aaron Pierce answered the phone. It was the hospital with an urgent call: his father’s condition had suddenly worsened, and he had just been transferred to the ICU.
Hanging up the phone, Aaron Pierce looked anxious and immediately got up from his seat.
"Assistant Dawson, something urgent has come up. I have to go."
Kevin Dawson stood up as well. "Where are you headed, Mr. Pierce? I can have a driver take you."
"That’s not necessary, thank you."
Aaron Pierce hurriedly left the Cantonese restaurant and hailed a taxi to the hospital.
Kevin Dawson didn’t press the issue. He called Adrian Lancaster to report what had happened.
When he learned that Aaron Pierce had taken Wren Sutton’s case, Adrian Lancaster’s expression grew dark and unreadable. He gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on his phone.
’As far as I know, Aaron Pierce is arrogant, has a bad temper, and is highly selective about the cases he takes.’
’For Wren Sutton to hire a legal heavyweight like him without my help... she’s more capable than I thought. I really underestimated her.’
’Perhaps their relationship isn’t so simple. Maybe they’d known each other for a long time.’
At the thought of this possibility, Adrian Lancaster’s expression turned cold. ’Just how many more secrets is Wren Sutton keeping from me?’
"President Lancaster, Mr. Pierce has taken your wife’s case. He also guaranteed that she will win."
"She has to win."
’It’s already come to this. What’s done is done, and no one can turn back time. I don’t care what the truth is anymore.’
’What I have to do now is save the Lancaster family’s reputation, protect Wren, and keep her out of prison.’
’As for the Marshall family, I’ll do my utmost to compensate them.’
...
News of what happened at the Quinn family’s one-month celebration eventually reached the Lancaster family’s matriarch.
"How could you keep something this huge from me?"
Theodore Lancaster tried to explain, but the matriarch wouldn’t listen. Instead, she berated him for his stupidity, saying the Marshall family was playing him for a fool.
"It’s such an obvious ploy—a self-inflicted injury to kill two birds with one stone. How could you not see it?"
"I see exactly what that Marshall mother-daughter duo is scheming. They think they can use this to threaten the Lancaster family? They’re dreaming."
Theodore Lancaster retorted, unconvinced, "If it is a ploy, then the Marshalls are incredibly foolish. To lose the baby and have a leg amputated... that’s too high a price to pay."
The matriarch was so exasperated with him she almost reached out and poked him on the forehead.
"The higher the price, the bigger their demands. Under the guise of reconciliation and forgiveness, they’ll force Adrian to marry their daughter. That is the Marshalls’ true goal."
"Making Adrian marry Maya Marshall is out of the question," Theodore Lancaster immediately objected.
’A woman who’s had a leg amputated has likely lost her ability to have children. The Lancaster family could never accept her.’
Only then did the matriarch’s anger subside.
"If the Marshall family wants a lawsuit, then the Lancaster family will see it through to the very end. I firmly believe Wren is innocent. She absolutely did not push Maya Marshall."
Theodore Lancaster voiced his concern, "But if our two families go to court..."
The matriarch cut him off, stating unequivocally, "The Marshalls will be the ones disgraced in the end. You just wait and see."
...
Isla Griffith took Zoey to the amusement park, while Wren Sutton rested at home and slept for two hours.
She had just woken up when her phone rang.
When she saw it was Adrian Lancaster’s number, she immediately hung up. No matter how many times he called, she hung up each time.
BEEP. A new WeChat message popped up. It was from Adrian Lancaster.
Grandma wants to see both of us.
Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.
Wren Sutton had a good idea of what the matriarch wanted to see her about; she was already mentally prepared.
Meet me at the hospital entrance.
「Forty minutes later.」
Wren Sutton drove to the hospital. Adrian Lancaster had arrived a few minutes before her and was waiting downstairs in front of the inpatient ward.
When they met, Wren Sutton ignored Adrian Lancaster and walked straight toward the lobby elevators.
Completely ignored, Adrian Lancaster’s face darkened, his expression turning ice-cold. He was furious.
He caught up to Wren in a few quick strides, grabbed her arm, and snapped, "Didn’t you see me waiting for you?"
Wren Sutton met his anger head-on. "I didn’t ask you to wait."
This made Adrian Lancaster even angrier. He didn’t want to argue, but Wren Sutton always managed to provoke him, pushing all his buttons.
