Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Recklessly Kissing Her Lips

Wren Sutton was furious. She had kindly come to the hospital to sign a form, only to be toyed with by Adrian Lancaster. He was an absolute bastard.

"Let go of me!"

Adrian Lancaster held her tighter, his gaze as deep and inscrutable as ever.

"Why are you so angry? It’s just a hug. I’m not going to do anything else."

Wren Sutton was indignant. "You had Kevin Dawson lie to me and play me for a fool, and you think you’re in the right?"

"I didn’t lie to you," Adrian Lancaster explained with a straight face. "The doctor did recommend I get my stomach pumped, and it required a family member’s signature."

Wren Sutton’s patience ran out, and she grew flustered and exasperated. "Then let go of me so I can go sign it!"

"I feel much better now that you’re here. I don’t think I need it anymore," Adrian Lancaster said, his voice low.

Wren Sutton scoffed, her expression tinged with disgust.

’Could he be any more corny? He’s making it sound like I’m a better healer than Valerius himself.’

"Save your sweet talk. I’m not Maya Marshall."

Adrian Lancaster’s expression changed. He cupped the back of her head without a second thought and pressed his lips to hers, kissing her gently at first.

The anger and frustration that had been building for most of the day vanished in an instant.

The kiss went from a light touch to a fiery passion. He couldn’t stop himself, his palm burning hot as it caressed Wren Sutton’s back in a gesture that was both intimate and soothing.

Wren Sutton struggled fiercely, small "mmph" sounds escaping the corner of her mouth only to be quickly smothered.

Adrian Lancaster had planned this. Taking advantage of their struggle, he switched their positions, pinning her beneath him.

"..."

Wren Sutton was left dizzy and breathless from the kiss. One of her buttons had come undone in the struggle, and her face was a mask of panic.

She couldn’t break free from his hold. Her eyes reddened with resentment and anger, misting over with the unshed tears of humiliation.

"So this was your reason for tricking me into coming to the hospital."

Adrian Lancaster’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He leaned in close to her ear, his breathing heavy. "Are you willing?"

"I’m not."

Never mind that Wren Sutton’s body wouldn’t allow it; even if it could, she had no desire to be intimate with Adrian Lancaster.

’I’m a bit of a clean freak when it comes to that, and he’s already dirty.’

Adrian Lancaster tilted Wren Sutton’s chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"It’s not good to be celibate when you’re so young."

’Adrian Lancaster doesn’t need his stomach pumped,’ Wren Sutton thought. ’He needs his brain washed of all its filth.’

’He’s in the hospital for alcohol poisoning and all he can think about is sex.’

She pressed her hands against his chest, pushing to create some distance between them.

"Let me up. This is a hospital. Don’t go too far and embarrass the Lancaster family."

Adrian Lancaster teased her deliberately. "No one would dare come in."

Wren Sutton bristled with anger. "It doesn’t matter if no one comes in. This is a hospital!"

Of course, Adrian Lancaster knew what he could and couldn’t do. He wasn’t such a bastard that he would actually treat a hospital room like his own bedroom and do whatever he wanted to Wren Sutton.

"If not in the hospital, then when we get home..."

He was halfway through his sentence when a knock sounded at the door, followed by Kevin Dawson’s voice.

"President Lancaster, I have the consent form for the stomach pump. It needs your wife’s signature."

The intimate atmosphere was broken. Adrian Lancaster’s face tightened in displeasure. "Wait."

Wren Sutton was easily flustered. Her eyes were glued to the door, her heart in her throat, terrified that Kevin Dawson or a doctor would push the door open.

She frantically urged Adrian Lancaster, pushing him off her. "Get up, quick! Let me go out and sign."

Adrian Lancaster got up reluctantly. "I don’t have to get it pumped. The doctor only suggested it."

"When you’re in the hospital, you listen to the doctor."

Wren Sutton quickly straightened her clothes and hair, making sure nothing looked out of place before heading for the door.

She opened the door, took the form from Kevin Dawson’s hand, glanced over it, and signed her name in the designated spot.

Afterward, the doctor arranged for Adrian Lancaster to be taken to the operating room.

Wren Sutton watched the white doors slowly swing shut, her heart clenching painfully. It was an awful feeling.

She knew from personal experience just how cold the operating table could be.

A few minutes later, Wren Sutton collected her thoughts, turned calmly, and left. Her figure disappeared around the corner of the hallway.

When Kevin Dawson returned from handling the paperwork, he didn’t see Wren Sutton and hurriedly called her.

Upon learning that Wren Sutton had already left the hospital and was on her way home, Kevin Dawson froze, a look of dismay on his face.

’I’m screwed. President Lancaster is going to chew me out when he gets out of the operating room. I can’t even keep track of one person.’

Before hanging up, Wren Sutton had added, "Assistant Dawson, thank you for your trouble."

Kevin Dawson felt like crying, but he couldn’t.

...

The sun sank below the horizon, painting the sky with the colors of sunset.

Wren Sutton arrived safely back at Amberwood Estates. The first thing she did when she got home was take a shower.

It wasn’t so much about washing away the hospital smell as it was about cleansing herself of Adrian Lancaster’s scent and touch.

After her shower, Wren Sutton felt completely refreshed. She changed into loose, comfortable loungewear and went to the kitchen to make herself dinner.

The minutes ticked by.

In the blink of an eye, it was ten o’clock at night. The air was still, the moonlight bright and clear.

DING! A new WeChat message popped up.

Wren Sutton put down her book, picked up her phone, and opened the message. It was from Spencer Sawyer.

It was a picture and a single line of text.

The picture showed two empty boxes.

The cookies were delicious. I devoured them all in one night.

A knowing smile touched Wren Sutton’s lips.

She replied, The sandwiches were delicious too.

Spencer Sawyer: If you like them, I’ll make more for you tomorrow.
