Without any delay. Eleanore rushed to Caelestis with the letter she had only just received from her brother. She couldn’t wait to share such amazing news with him.

Caelestis had just gotten back to work after hours of catching up with Adena, his cousin. Adena always seemed strange. He could always see how clingy she was being, and he didn’t really like that. Her touch was and has always been overwhelming and uncomfortable for him.

Yet, he chose to ignore that all. She and her family had done a huge favour on him after his parents died. They were the only emotional and mental support for him. His uncle had never been overpowered by greed, when the great duchy lost its duke and duchess so early. Leaving behind an heir, who was never as competent as he is now.

His uncle ran the whole dutchy over his only two shoulders and never complained. When Caelestis came of age, he returned everything back to him, without asking anything in return. Thus, he knew that they deserved his utmost respect.

Eleanore slammed the door open, unlike always. Every time she tried to approach him, she preferred knocking the door and waiting for his permission to enter, unwilling to anger him in any way. But this time, she just couldn’t hold back her excitement to share this great news with him.

"My brother is coming back!" She exploded the news on him.

Immediately Caelestis got out of his chair, leaving all his work behind and walked towards her. "Really? When?"

At that, Eleanore went to take a second look at the letter to see if any date was mentioned. Once she had crossed verified, she shook her head. "Um, No. He hasn’t given a particular date as such."

"Can I see it?" He asks. Eleanore passes the letter on to him carefully, protecting the thin paper from ripping apart.

"I’m so happy. I can’t wait to see him." She says, in excitement.

"Me, neither." He returns the paper back to her. "But why did I receive no letter?" He wondered.

Hael had always sent the letters to Caelestis instead of Eleanore but this time, with all the grievances they had. He preferred sending them to Eleanore, knowing she would give the news to him.

"Oh well. Um, you got none?" She asked. She assumed that Hael might have sent letter to him as well.

When Caelestis shook his head like a child who had been disappointed by his mother, Eleanore felt sorry for him. She wanted to make him feel better. "Maybe, the letters he sent for you, might have not passed the verification process. Who knows?"

"Does that mean our challenge is nearing its end?" He asked out of nowhere, when he remembered that night when Eleanore challenged him to earn Stella’s favour by the time her brother returns.

Her excitement and happiness vanished when she saw his gloomy face. "Right." She would love to go back on her words, if that would make him happy. But Stella’s loyal friendship stopped her.

How could she ever bare to see her benefactor in a state so wretched that it would break her heart?

"What about the marriage part?" He asked, feeling down about the whole thing.

Eleanore, who had been rubbing her thumb on the thin paper of the letter, bent her neck back, only to find his eyes already fixed on her. She gulped, as she asked, "What about that?"

"Well, um. You see, I haven’t found a partner yet." He answers. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Wait!" Eleanore was actually stunned on hearing that. "Does that mean you are over her?"

"What? No! Of course not."

Eleanore rolled her eyes on that. ’What was I even thinking? An obsessed fellow like him could never let go of his obsession so soon.’

"If you do not have anyone you want to marry. You can forget that part." She says, almost annoyed by his ignorance. Can’t he see, he has no feeling for her. None.

Just when his mood lightened up, Eleanore dropped another condition.

"However, if she wishes to marry someone, you cannot stop her in any of your disgusting wild ways." She warned. "If you do any such thing, I swear. I won’t let it go easily."

"Does she—" Before Caelestis could ask that question, Adena appeared behind Eleanore.

When their eyes met she gave a clueless smile and started in. The rustling of her outfit also grabbed Eleanore’s attention. She turned around and found her approaching her.

"Good evening, Lady Eleanore Sinclair." She says, as she elegantly stood in front of her.

"Ah, yes. Good evening." Eleanore answers, folding the letter back up.

"I would like to talk to your maid, Marina."

"Why?" Eleanore asked suspiciously. What great talk might she want to initiate with her maid?

Instead of answering her question, Adena simply turned her gaze to Caelestis, as if asking him to explain the situation. Thus, Eleanore turned around to him as well.

"Adena is helping investigate the situation." He explains.

"Is that so?" Eleanore raised one of her eyebrows in amazement, then again, turned to Adena with a stern look in her eyes. "You are a detective, My lady. I never knew."

Adena’s face flushed up in embarrassment. "I am not."

"Then why are you investigating this case?" Eleanore just knew something was wrong.

"I am just trying to help." She answers before shifting her gaze back to Caelestis.

’Why does she need Caelestis for everything? Can’t she solve her problems on her own?’

"Lady Eleanore—" Before Caelestis could serve another explanation on her behalf, Eleanore answered her question.

"There is no need to interrogate my maid. She has seen nothing. I already heard her story."

"But my lady. I also need to know what happened to find more clues." She argues but Eleanore continues to hold her ground.

"I do not grant you the permission to meet my Maid. Lady Adena Velrose." With that, Eleanore excused herself from the room.
