Chapter 457: My wife is virtuous

Qie Xieling had the most basic survival training. He knew how to do his bed, make instant ramen and do dishes but the rest were foreign to him. If his dad told him to cut onions he would end up rubbing his eyes while crying and the tears would come pouring out even more.

If he was asked to cut chicken he would butcher it so much you would think he was murdering it twice. Let’s not talk about the moment he almost burnt Nana’s house down making cookies. It was so bad that when he walked into the kitchen even just passing by his dad would shoo him off. The accidents were too numerous to count.

Now he was standing there lost. He didn’t know how to chop onions let alone cook. Qie Xieling had to enlist Jolie’s help. ’Jolie other than boiling instant noodles I know nothing,’ he said internally and Jolie who was rubbing her arm with a loofah sighed in frustration.

’Have you tried cooking? At least try. Who knows. Maybe you are secretly a MasterChef,’ said Jolie and Qie Xieling couldn’t help but retort,

"Are you trying to make me poison him? Don’t you remember what almost happened to Nana’s kitchen?’

’Maybe your character can cook. Just tap into those skills,’ replied Jolie and Qie Xieling clenched his fists before grabbing a cleaver that was stabbed into the chopping board.

Jolie was right. This character had been through so much that to survive he had to learn how to cook. Qie Xieling grinned after picking up the knife. With all the ingredients available, he knew what he wanted to make.

He began opening the large storage jars neatly organised in the kitchen. Despite his inexperience, he found that he could even differentiate between paprika and cayenne pepper which was a huge deal for him.

With a deep breath, he started by preparing the pork. However, his lack of knife skills quickly became apparent. He might have got some knowledge from the character on how to cook but he was still bad at it.

Each cut he made on the meat was far from perfect, resulting in uneven slices. But he persisted, knowing that it was the effort that truly mattered.

Next, he moved on to the rice. Following the recipe step by step, he carefully washed the grains and added them to a pot filled with water. As the rice began to simmer, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment, despite his less-than-ideal pork cuts.

While the rice cooked he turned his attention to the green onions If they were alive they would have been shivering right now praying for mercy. As he chopped them, his lack of expertise once again made itself evident. The pieces were uneven and far from the professional presentation he had hoped for. Yet, he reminded himself that this meal was being made out of love and sincerity.

He could have been sleeping in right now with a dagger under the covers just in case Luo Muchen turned murderous when he woke up but here he was making something special for that man despite his backside feeling a little uncomfortable.

As the aroma of the simmering rice filled the kitchen he added the imperfectly cut pork to the pot, watching it blend with the grains. He carefully stirred the mixture, letting the flavours meld together, infusing the dish with warmth and tenderness.

While it simmered he poured out some steaming water into a special basin and quickly carried it back to Luo Muchen’s bedroom. He tried to walk softly and not disturb Luo Muchen’s sleep but he had no idea that Luo Muchen was already awake. From the time Qie Xieling moved his hand away, he instantly woke up but he pretended that he was still asleep. He wanted to see what his wife was up to.

Earlier, Luo Muchen laid still, his breathing steady and controlled, as his bride gracefully moved about the room. The softness of her footsteps on the wooden floor resonated within him, tugging at his heartstrings. She was intentionally trying to make as much noise as possible so she wouldn’t wake him. With his eyes barely open, he turned his head slightly, his gaze fixed on her through the swaying lace curtain.

He observed her delicate form as she bent down to pick something up, a hint of pain escaping her lips, a reminder of their passionate night. Luo Muchen’s lips smiled slightly as memories of last night flashed in his mind. He recalled how her butt pressed against his body as she cried out her tears staining the veil and the pillow. The way she called out Mu Mu made him shiver as her sweet honey voice brushed against his soul.

He heard her mumble something in dissatisfaction like she wasn’t impressed with the clothes she had. He planned to take her into town, to the finest silk emporium, where he would have clothes made specifically to her liking. As a reward for last night, he planned to have Bo Ailun bring something from the treasury. He wanted to gift her something truly special, something that would make her eyes sparkle with delight.

As his bride moved behind the folding screen his curiosity was piqued. He saw her shadowy figure behind the screen struggle with the weight of her bridal attire, but he resisted the urge to walk over and help her. He didn’t want to startle or overwhelm her in any way. Instead, he watched, captivated, as she sensually shed the heavy layers of fabric, revealing the contours of her slender frame. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

His heart quickened its pace, pounding against his chest, as she emerged from behind the screen. At that moment, he chose to shut his eyes, a mixture of admiration and desire flooding his senses. His Adam’s apple bobbed from his emotions swirling within him.

Luo Muchen’s interest in his bride was a tender flame, burning brightly within his soul. With each passing moment, he yearned to show her how cherished she was and shower her with the finest things.

When she walked in again he pretended to remain asleep. He heard her place a basin of water on the bedside table. She placed a washcloth and a bath bean on the side of the basin before turning to leave.

When the door closed Luo Muchen sat up and pulled back the lace curtain. He covered his lips with his hand concealing the silly grin on his face. His wife was so considerate and cute.

Qie Xieling had no idea that his husband was playing possum. He went back to check on what he was cooking. When he got back he found Jolie looking at the simmering congee like she was staring a the most heinous crime to humanity.

"How how how can you screw up something that comes naturally to your character? You even cut your fingers," exclaimed Jolie and Qie Xieling stared at his fingers that had been cut.

"Who said I messed it up? It’s not like you are going to eat my cooking anyway. Step aside," he said and Jolie seemed quite mortified. She wanted to stay as far away as possible from that congee. She started to pity Luo Muchen somewhat. it wasn’t Luo Muchen who was going to kill Qie Xieling but Qie Xieling who was going to poison him instead.

Qie Xieling ladled the steaming congee into two bowls and garnished each with the unevenly chopped green onions. Though it may not have looked picture-perfect, he felt a swell of pride in his heart. He had poured his love and dedication into this. He hoped that Luo Muchen liked it.

Qie Xieling carried the serving tray table towards the bedroom. Following behind him was Jolie.

"Why are you following me?" he asked and Jolie wasn’t shy about it. She said,

"Because you will need backup. I brought a cleaver." With a shing, she produced a very sharp cleaver she kept who knows where.

"Just stay outside. I will call if I need something," he said and entered the bedroom. Meanwhile, Bo Ailun entered the kitchen and was a little confused. Luo Muchen wasn’t exactly a breakfast person. Bo Ailun just boiled water in the morning and Luo Muchen would come and pick it up by himself. This was the way Luo Muchen did things. Yet now it seemed someone had cooked despite there not being any maidservants around.

His eyes suddenly widened when he recalled that lascivious new wife of his new young master. A sudden thought crossed his mind. She was a young miss from a wealthy family and obviously couldn’t lift a finger, especially with the maidservants at her beck and call so why would she cook for the young master? Was she trying to poison him?

Bo Ailun’s eyes widened at that realisation. He knew he had to do something. Qie Xieling on the other end entered the bedroom and found his darling husband shirtless while wiping the water on his face.

Qie Xieling brought in the tray table and placed it down before saying, "Breakfast is ready."

He sat down and started eating without waiting for Luo Muchen. If there was going to be a fight he should at least fill his stomach.

Luo Muchen set the cloth aside and with a big grin on his face he said, "My wife is so virtuous," before slowly turning around.
